I have the 5680 i7-13700H - A2000-8GB - 32GB - 1920 x 1080 version. I opted for the 1920 screen to add battery life, I do hires jobs when I'm in the office. It's a good, solid laptop with some typical Dell quirks. My main frustration is that the CPU is capped at 2.72MHz, probably to prevent overheating. The listed 5.0GHz for this processor are not happening. I understand the likely rational, a laptop running with fans at full blast as default, while the CPU melts a hole in the base is not the look we seek. I just don't understand the choice of CPU, this thermal design can't deal with the heat at full performance mode. It doesn't even manage the e-core turbo frequency. The 2.72GHz cap is a way to keep the machine alive, a better cooling solution wouyld have been fairer to the customer. I still recommend this laptop, it performs great in Mathematica, Chemkin and SolidWorks. It just could have been so much better.
As a software developer working for big companies, I've had so many Dell precisions over the years. At home I use Macs, iPads, Samsung laptops, etc. The Dell is the gold standard. I'll probably get the 5680.
This is a great workstation review. People complain about the price; Professional workstations are not gaming machines. They are expensive for a reason! Good work on this review Andrew.
I use the exact same laptop, and I am so impressed with it. Although I personally don't use all it's power With the camera and the battery, I've only really tested the camera and it is quite impressive. I have a Logitec Brio webcam, but I still prefer to use this one, it has far better colours with the out of the box setup and no messing about with settings
The Dell Precision 5680 is certainly a beauty, however, due to the fact that this is a business grade laptop, it is cost prohibitive for the casual user. Having said that, everything about this laptop is great! The webcam is very sharp and clear and so is the mic array. The internal speakers, though somewhat weak in output, is not bad for a Windows PC. As I have already stated, it's a great business laptop at the end of the day. Once again Andrew, brilliant and very thorough review!! 👍😁
Very nice pc for those who it is aimed for. Not for your average consumer. Camera and mics are excellent. Sound is good. Display is good. Just a note that except for the Microsoft and Asus computers you mentioned on Best Buy all the orher ones you listed on sale are in fact not on sale anymore. Best Buy changes their sale prices on Monday and if you film these Best Buy videos before Monday you end up reporting incorrect prices. This might be a little confusing to some of your viewers. Great review as always.
They say this is too expensive, even though considering the specifications and features that are offered, it's very natural that many people judge the price of a business laptop with the price of a commercial laptop, they are very funny
Half of that price is for certification, especially for the "professional dGPU" unblocked for Double-precision floating-point format (sometimes called FP64 or float64) 😂
This is the replacement for Dell XPS 15, similar weight too. Most people who use it will treat it like a portable desktop. As long as it has 32GB of RAM, it is a powerhouse.
Too expensive laptop. I have two of them , a 7530 with an I5 H and 32 Gbs and a 7520 with an I7 H and 16 gb , both are able to upgrade almost everything and are still awesome to work. A FIVE star review as always
6:45 You'd expect Dell to use their own, brand new, CAMM standard for upgradeable RAM on a business laptop. Why even bother creating this standard if they're not going to use it.
Half of that price is for certification, especially for the "professional dGPU" unblocked for Double-precision floating-point format (sometimes called FP64 or float64) Also do not forget that the display is stocked at 60 frames per second
This laptop impresses when it comes to its specifications, offering exceptional performance and sharp screen quality. Nevertheless, the audio experience falls far short of expectations. The volume is notably lower than what you'd find in a typical smartphone speaker, with virtually no bass presence and an overall muffled sound. While it's a fantastic purchase for those seeking top-tier performance, the audio quality leaves much to be desired for a laptop of this caliber.
Imagine the DELL precision team being allowed to finally design their own workstation again, making it thicker than the XPS/Precision of previous generations and still not being able to keep the upgradable RAM Of the older laptops. How sad is that.
The thing that makes these computers continue to suck for portability is the size of the AC adapter vs what Apple offers. You could argue that the brick isn't that much bigger than Apple's but the cords! With a MacBook you don't have to wrestle with a thick three-pronged cord or that super thick adapter to computer cable (although the non-magsafe USB-C cords from Apple have gotten quite a bit thicker in recent years). Why in the world haven't they adopted the new USB-C power delivery specs is one obvious question.
I read the clock speed is 2.5 GHz... If it is true sadly this workstation is useless for AutoCAD where the single core use of the sofrware required at least 4 GHz and 5.5 - 6 to feel happy. So it is a specs dedicated to a peculiar range of softwares and not, in my opinion, the best overall workstation.
According to the Notebookcheck's review of that model there is a screen flickering at 60hz below 100% brightness of that screen. The frequency of 60 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. That is ridiculous solution for the laptop like this.
Hello Andrew, Could you pls make a review for the Asus Zanbook 14X after you use it for 2 months or more? I read reviews about the battery life, and a lot of people said the battery life it's about 4 hours. I'm planning to buy it and use it for coding. If can't make a review just reply what do you think about it? Tnx Andrew
I assume you got lucky on eBay? Have seen this stuff already, so it's not that surprising. Good catch there. And oh, 10 dollar bet on it having the A1000 GPU lol. This kind of specs are way too common for workstations if I have to be honest
Again with theft from the consumer, two measly c ports on one side, and one on the other, with barely a hdmi(bet it's 1.4) port, and the insulting sdcard reader. No displayports, no rj-45, no usb-a, not to mention things that are still useful like VGA...
Thats a nice mobile workstation. Dell are asking way too much though. Its time that Dell stopped being Intel fanboys and started working with AMD, this would be half the price and way more performant too.
So, still no full sized ESC and f-keys, still no numeric keyboard. I think that every professional would agree with me that serious keyboard is much more important in real work than one finger opening of the laptop or huge speakers , which to be honest are poor if compared to the Apple M books speakers. At least Dell have not yet pushed "precisions" keyboard to the absurd like in the 2024 XPS.
@@zzantaresthanks man, I have checked it too. It looks like a great laptop but it also got some solutions I do not accept - the trackpoint and physicall keys of trackpad. But I would propably live with that. The point is that Dell's design is very close to be perfect but they do not want to make that final step - to put a real keyboard on while there is a lot of space to do it. Apple finally got it - the ESC and Fkeys are full-sized and comfortable, still no numpad but they have taken a step in the right direction. If I was sure that Apple's M books could run Windows and the software I work on without any issues I would go for an Apple laptop.

Finely. Someone who understands it. It can still play some games on off time.

This thing, plus a pair RAM slots, should be the next XPS. Dell is known for sharing chassis between XPS and Precision lines.
Dell seems to be one of the very few manufacturers that can squeeze the most laptop battery life while using Intel processors...

Another excellent full review, Andrew. On your close, we now have to start saying X, for Twitter. This is an impressive laptop, no two ways about it.

And here I am never seen it in Kenya... great review Mr Andrew!
This thing is a beast and so is the price. Thanks for the review Andrew!
Can't believe the soldered ram at this price. Really a disservice to the buyer, IMO. Might as well just get an xps 17 with upgradeable memory.
I would sell myself for that price
Not for consumers that's for sure

😂😂😂😂
Yoga Pro 9i 16 has a Mini-LED, lower prices, Tidal Teal all metal design, ergonomic edges, a camera shutter
They should at least have an option for a higher refresh rate screen while plugged in

Laptop for working use rtx a5000 and isv sertiv in 6k is so good price man. What your spec laptop
In the specs section, I didn't realise SSDs still came in megabytes anymore lol.

Unfortunately I can’t say anything on this just yet 😉
I like a lot your reviews, I hope you can review soon the new Dell inspiron 7630, seems the best budget laptop ever!
Those Best Buy Lenovo deals were amazing.
Yes they were
How does the trackpad compare to Macbooks? Does clicking feel the same way, and also are you able to adjust the haptic vibration feel in settings

The gpu in this laptop does not have full-rate fp64 performance, though. In fact no laptop gpu on the market currently supports it.
Damn what a laptop 😢I wish I could own one
What is the tdp of the gpu ??
great review
Great review, how long is the battery last per charged?
Why do they keep putting 60 hz displays in these? Also i really hate it that they stopped making white version of the xps 15..

How does the keyboard compare to the previous model?
Any chance to check the BIOS settings for FN + Left/Right arrow keys mapping?
Did you checked Inspiron 14 and 16 Linup for 2023?
Good video, thank you. What is the SSD1/VPU? I don't see any full explanations of this, only a couple blurbs that are marketing drivel.
I'm a simple man: I see soldered RAM in a 15"+ model, I pass.
I was considering one of these, but now I know to skip it. Thanks.
curious why the weight says 5lbs. Did you weight the unit?
Haha! The title!😁
had many Precisions 5520 ,5540 ,7550 ,all had coil noise and battery wear why they don't give at least quality battery with these

Watching this video on a Precision 5570 right now. I'm quite disappointed that the RAM has been soldered, as its upgradeable to 64gb in my 5570.
how is 5570 precision performaning not having any issues this laptop are beautiful
how does the palmrest feel? is it a slick, glassy feel like the z16 or is it grippy like the old xps?
More grippy

What is the TGP informed in the Nvidia control panel of the RTX 5000 Ada?

I would have been fine with even a 90 Hz display. Once you've experienced refresh rates above 60 Hz, it's darn near impossible to go back.
