If you invert the squishy wheels so they extend when the ground is detected, they could have the utility of making a big wheel that fits into a small wheel space.
It's very logical and obvious when you say it but I would also probably have done it like Scrapman and randomly thought of the more efficient way at 2 AM trying to go to sleep and hated myself for wasting time
@@Soken50 yes , sometimes i do same to , when u are thinking about the creation and how to improve , your forget the logical things that mkes it simple
If you put each each of the four paddles on their own piece of suspension, then Scrap Mechanic will treat them as a separate but attached creation for physics calculations. Doing that makes it so paddles wheels can actually work. It's the same thing that makes the suspension glitch work
To make it work better, he should just make the cannon longer (and it would make the seat in the middle of the cannon) letting the thruster have time to push the seat
It IS possible to make paddles work, just really weird solution is to put each paddle on its own bearings so each paddle count as different things and make the drag thing work better An episode doing paddle science would be cool
A funny note is that the paddlewheel was moving in the opposite direction than the boat went 😅 as you said SM, the inertia from the spud guns were powering the boat. Awesome video.
Put the spud guns on the bottom of the creation so the recoil and paddle direction do not cancel out. Doesn't matter since water physics are not in place. However, you could try to test it on land.
Multiplayer Monday idea: make platfomer courses similar to wipeout 3 on 3ds (it's like a ninja warrior show style obstacle courses). When I saw sensor trigger on character and piston extending - I was like... hmm... that would be handy for obstacle course.
I think one of Newton's laws that talks about equal and opposite reactions means that the recoil force is exactly identical to the force of the spud hitting the paddle, and you would go nowhere. That said, the friction in the paddle turning and the inertia required to get it moving at the start might overwhelm the recoil later after it all builds up. You could end up with a situation where it starts going forward, then comes to a stop, and then moves in reverse...
@@Adrian-3 It is correct. The force of the shot and the recoil are the same but with opposite directions. The acceleration of the bullet and the gun are different because they have different mass.
Scrap Mechanic physics is interesting to say the least. In survival I went the Nomad lifestyle (with a fixed farm) and took your idea of automatic doors that open when you get out of the seat. They open up on both sides, but the stick every now and then. For some dumb reason if I delete a block in the side of my RV... anywhere (it does not even need to be one near the doors) they just fly open.
8:26 i did this concept with shock absorbers and boots within a few weeks of early access releasing, one of the updates changed something and with springs it now acts weird update to squishy wheels would be to put a grippy surface to thsid and 1 down from the sensor to actually mean it can try to grip the terrain OK ... that spud gun powered wheel idea needs to be a drive wheel for a land vehicle now
Hey tap paddle power you need a suspension piece on the paddles something to do with how Scrap mechanic deals with different positions and bearings on bearings and suspension on bearings and all sorts other stuff but if you put a bearing the suspension piece on the pattle it should
17:52 you said paddle boats don't work like that in scrap mechanic, they do you just need to use bearings to separate each paddle from the center of the wheel. otherwise the water will treat the wheel as all one object.
For the boat, have the guns aim down onto the paddles so the recoil does not effect travel. And for the cannon, leave everything like it is but extend the barrel so the thruster has more time to transfer energy to the seat.
The cannon could probably be improved with a delay between seat release and the thrusters launch allowing the seat to be sitting on the thrusters before leaving the barrel. Then again physics are used with creative liberties abundant
"Maybe we don't need to reinvent the wheel" says the guy who has reinvented the wheel in multiple videos. 17:42 ...the way that's drawn has the paddle wheel moving the boat backwards instead of forwards... 19:43 Oh, he noticed 🤣
for the next multiplayer monday you should build creations that you race using only the unnamed creations like the creations you duplicate on the lift and you can only use each creation once or twice
I believe the solution to the boat paddle is just flip the spud guns upside down as if they are part of the floor. Might need to add some bubble blocks to compensate though.
You can make paddles work. It's very janky but does work if you have suspension then paddles on the suspension. I think the suspension has to be at low strength but you could power the rotation with the spud guns and transfer that rotation to the suspension paddle wheel.
hi scrap man i hope you read this because i really love ur vids there so great and they make me so happy on how far u have made it on youtube and i hope u have a wonderful day!
On the paddle boat, if you turn the spud guns 90* so the face down on the inside paddle of the boat, the paddle would also be moving in the right direction... ...just a thought.
the drawing of the spud gun boat shows it will only work in one direction and that's reverse, look at the spud gun in the drawing and where the spud will hit and see what direction the wheel will turn. Which ever direction the top of the will turns that's the direction of movement the vehicle will go.
I think the piston wheel could actually work pretty well if each piston was connected to an AND gate, with each gate having an input from its corresponding respective sensor, and from a passanger-operated switch or button.
Would be fun to see a spudpowered car in the same fashion, where the spuds don't hit the wheel directly but rather hit something that drives the axle. And to prevent the forward momentum the spuds should shoot vertically
if you put the spud guns on the bottom instead of the top, they'd push the paddle in the right direction. You should check if that makes it go faster, b/c I know that paddles do sort of work in Scrap Mechanic (though they usually have to be pretty big)
I think if real life water physics were in place, the boat would still move forwards, since from a pure conservation of energy standpoint, there are more steps of energy loss for the paddle propulsion than the spudgun propulsion. Although probably it would be slow since you're putting a lot of energy into self-sabotage.
U need to invert basically everything. Cause the pistons cant perform squishiness when in retracted stiff position. No dampening if there is no travel possible.
After watching the last build, I had an idea for a Multiplayer Monday Build-off. Each player has to build a boat with no seat and manual controls (like how an outboard motorboat works).
The thruster gun, if you had a longer barrel you would go much farther, as the seat would get so much more force applied to it. You act like a bullet and the thrusters are the gunpowder.
Maybe try attach spud guns under the boat for the correct paddle spin. And on the top 3 more spud guns to counter recoil. Then we will see if water and paddle physic works.
Sure, the last creation wouldn't have worked IRL as drawn, but if you moved the spudguns below the axis of rotation then it would have at least been spinning in the right direction. It's a good question, though: would it actually work IRL? I want to say it's along the lines of the "sailing faster than the wind" theory. It's super counterintuitive, but I think, yes, it would work. Of course, that's ignoring the fact that if you did lower the guns below the axis of rotation they would block the flow of water to the paddle, creating a low pressure zone between the guns and the paddle which would likely cause drag in the water. Then there's the pressure wave caused by the spuds exiting the barrels, which is then dissipated laterally into the water for the entire length of travel. You could, of course, turn the whole contraption around horizontally and mount the spuds above the axis of rotation once more. However, that would mean now you have the retrograde thrust from shooting mass in the direction of travel, affected by air resistance, and again dissipating energy laterally. I'm no physicist, so the math is well beyond me, but it seems too inefficient to be practical. For all intents and purposes, a sealed combustion engine cuts out the middle men and converts energy directly to motion
for the spud powered paddleboat build, it would have been cool if you tested the true strength of the paddle, or to see if it was actually working at all, by cancelling out all the spudgun recoil; you could have done this by placing another layer of spudguns ontop of the existing ones, however facing in the opposite direction. three facing forward, and three facing backwards.
What if you do 1 episode called "i type you build" where you just type about something as simple as "i want a cheese" or something more complicated but no picture, then you build the thing yourself and compare it to peoples creation.
Even there is paddle physics for scrapmechanic the boat still won't work. Because the thrust its generating is forwards meaning its going backwards (according to my knowledge about physics)
Foe the thrust cannot, it would probably work better if you extended the barrel or put your seat directly in front of the thrusters (still not attached) so you had more time to build up momentum. Somewhat like real firearm logic
If you invert the squishy wheels so they extend when the ground is detected, they could have the utility of making a big wheel that fits into a small wheel space.
