Excellent job! Looks Great. Thank for posting!
The wood floors look great! Nice job on the remodeling.
Nice job . I used a magnet on the freezer door . Also used a coin shaped magnet on the metal converter door .
Good idea. I used a magnet on the converter door as well when the original plastic clip broke.
Replaced the power supply, too.
Great job. Huge improvement. Safe travels!
It looks great. Thanks for the tutorial.
It is beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
Love your floor! Great work!
Really nice! TY for the tour. Safe travels
I absolutely love the idea of the bar in place of the microwave! Thank you- cheers!
Nice job! I never knew FG "egg" trailers existed until I came across your blog a few years back. We checked out Oliver, Scamp and Casita before settling on the Escape in 2016. It's been a blast. Happy trails.
The Escape is a nice trailer! If I ever got rid of the Casita, it would be for an Escape!
And I did!
I love this... well done!!
Excellent. Love the bar!
you really have a skill for renovating/fixing---
Bob, enjoying your blog.
Love the new flooring.
As a "swing fan" - the music is fabulous!
Read your blog this AM. Congrats on the Escape 21 purchase. Happy trails.

Manhattan Melodrama - FABULOUS in any instrumental venue.
Great job!
Looks great
I recently purchased a 2008. I was surprised to see in your video that there was floor rot. I read that the floor in the Casita was fiberglass and would not rot . Can you kindly comment in more detail on how this happened in your case. A vloger named BEX Cat herder said she had some "dry rot" under her toilet. Not sure if dry rot is different from normal rot caused by water but her floor in the bath had to be replaced. North Carolina Resident. Getting ready for our first trip. Heading to Nova Scotia. I have enjoyed your videos. Subscriber.
Dry rot and rot are the same thing. As you can see in the video, water got in through the dinette seat posts in the rear, which rotted out the aluminum (!!). Casita cuts holes in the floor, including in the air conditioning cabinet (see my video about that) and left raw wood edges exposed. Newer Casitas have roof air and don't have this issue. If I ordered a new one, I would ask them to delete the dinette seat post brackets, as the holes cut into the floor seemed to be the problem.
great job!!!
7:30 I cut the tangs off the coil springs on the freezer door with a pair of side-cutters, so it doesn't spring closed anymore. I prefer this to the original design, as you don't have to hold the door open with one hand.
I Love it!😁
Nice job
nice job
Added a second ceiling skylight as well as two ceiling LED lights as well..... (not shown).
Sweet!
Wow!❤
U did an awesome job! My brother is a carpenter and when it comes to floors he always said to start in the middle of the room and work your way to the sides with any flooring material. Tiles, wood, ect... to get an even look. Your floors turned out great thou! Can you paint the walls and ceiling or is that a no no with fiberglass? P.S. I love the bar area!
Sounds like excellent advice.!
That is just a really fine job sir. If you wouldn't mind my asking, how much do you think or know you have into this awesome little home?
What it the style make of the Trafficmaster vinyl plank?
I chuckled when I saw your dinette bases acting as portals to the outside ground. I'm dealing with that issue right now (found your video during my research) . Seems like your floor was in better shape than mine though. I'm going to have to rehab it before relaying floor. Previous owner laied linoleum planks without fixing this issue and just trapped water below the flooring ... lucky me. What did you do underneath to protect the outside of the table bases from having the same issue again?
Stay tuned for another episode of "this old Casita!"
Looks great. Can you elaborate on how you added shelving, and where you got it from, under the sink Robert?
It was that wire shelving you get at home depot or lowes. A friend was throwing away a bunch of it (!!) and I used it for that. cut it with bolt cutters. I also made new shelves for the refrigerator with it . The original shelves have a huge hole in them to accommodate a milk jug.
Hi, Where did you get the original chairs
Love what you did and am trying to follow in your footsteps. I've hit a bit of a snag right away. I'm trying to unbolt the captain's chairs and once loosened the bolts seem to spin without rising. Did you encounter this, and if so how did you work around it?
There is a nut under the floor as I recall. I had to put a wrench under there. May require a friend underneath the unit! Sorry for the delay in responding!
Considering on buying a Casita Freedom deluxe. Wondering what it would cost to restore and old one would cost vs buying new.
There is a new one for sale on the Casita Club website, from the factory, for $21,900. Unless you have a lot of time and energy and are handy, that might be easier!
Very very nice!!! And it didn't take you that long. Did you have to rewire the electricity too?
There was no problems with the electric, other that I ran a courtesy outdoor outlet while I was renovating.
Absolutely great job man. It looks beautiful. Is she for sale? LOL
Not yet. Not yet!
What year Casita is this? I know there's different versions of Casitas like Pilot ones or something. Good job! :D
This is a 1999 Freedom Deluxe, which has the swivel chairs. There are other models with a bench seat dinette, or one giant bed.
Can you give the name of the upholstery company you ordered your chairs from?
Clifton Upholstery of Waco, Texas, original supplier to Casita
How did the seat slides work out for the captains chairs? Which slides did you usr?
They are seat slides for bass boat seats. Found them on ebay cheap. Very expensive in the stores!
I'm thinking about redoing the floor in our Casita, After almost a year how is it holding up?
It works surprisingly well, no peeling up or anything. It is vinyl, so it can scratch and ding. Use alcohol on the floor to remove dust and oil before applying. I am just sorry I didn't do it years ago!
What concerns me with the casita is all the carpet, moisture on the carpet and mold, which I am highly allergic to. I see a lot of moldy looking black spots on the carpet and in areas something was removed. Am I seeing correct?
good point. We use Chlorox wipes to clean the walls and ceiling. It removes dirt and dust and sanitizes the carpet at the same time. After 20 years, you will find a lot of dirt and stuff underneath the old floor carpet, which is why we removed it. I did run a mold test a few years back (I was running one on our house at the same time). It came back "normal" whatever that means. You might want to look into the Oliver or Bigfoot which are fiberglass inside. Also, the Escape is vinyl inside, which wipes clean wiht a sponge.
How comfortable is that mattress? Can you post a link where you purchased? Have you ever heard of the lil snoozy? I watch Rusty78609 on utube. He’s been buying and purchasing campers for over 30yrs. Ive gotten lots of good info from him as well. TFS!
Southern Mattress, Rocky Mount, NC. Really nice people, too!
What did the new captain seats cost?
$694.67 Kinda pricey, but new upholstery would cost as much, and the seat foam on the old seats was getting thin.
do you sell casitas that you work on?
I only have one, but yes, it is now for sale on eBay.
Robert, we have a Casita Renovators & Restorers group on Facebook, if you're interested. For owners of Casitas years 2000 and older. We'd love to have you!
Thanks, but like Jim Carrey, I am no longer on Facebook. Difference is, I figured it out a decade before he did!
Great job !
