Yessir. Growing up in a family of folks who went through the depression gives us a whole different perspective on frugality and wastefulness. Oddly, I miss your grandpa too, and was so glad to have had a chance to 'meet' him a couple of times on his cameo appearances on your early videos.
      Hope our paths cross someday.

Enjoyed the show, Cody Before I finished watching, made me some of the butter coffee. man that stuff is great. My grandpa was the same way. He always asked for no tomatoes on his sandwiches. He said I ate so many I got rashes because that's all we had in South Florida at the time. The he would add, and we were glad to have it. My dad was born in 48 so he grew up in the beginning of better times but grandpa instilled the waste not, want not values in him to the bone. He passed that on to me. We have a rule keep it ten years and if you can't find a use for it, keep it ten more...

I am not a man of any particular faith, but i swear that these videos you make where you tell your life stories and talk about your family matters or routines, and how you try to incorporate every ones happiness in your every day tasks really gets to me. i grew up in a broken household with divorced parents and no other family to speak of. but your videos bring me to tears at times with how amazing a house hold and a family can be when you really put effort into taking care of each other. and i dare say i have never met you and will probable never have the pleasure to since im all the way down here in Florida but Mr. wrangler star you really flipped my whole perspective on how a family should be and theses videos genuinely make me feel as if im a part of your family! I dont care what anyone says to you about how you should do things your an amazing man, father, and husband and having only been subscribed to you since a little less than a year i have to say you have been the greatest inspiration to me for how to act as a man! i love all your videos and your family bonds are held together with lock-tight! keep up the great content and i can wait for the next time you shake the very core of my being. A very large part of socyity comes from dysfunctional homes. This is why we must all try to be more understanding and forgiving, If you or me are hurting some one, We should ask, Why. In solitude be reflective, Ask your self, Who am I, In company be supportive and friendly, There are many roads to travel, And meany miles befor I sleep, Our poet's have written their verses, odes, balards, prays, hyms, Ryhms, There words can heal our minds.

  • @calebbailey07

I really enjoyed the video. My wife and I are from Oklahoma. My great uncles moved out to Oregon during the depression and worked in the mills. My wife’s great grandfather worked out there with the WPA and wanted to take her great grandmother back to live there but she refused to leave southern Kansas. The Great Depression really did shape that generation, including my grand parents and even my dad. Nothing goes to waste and today junk may be exactly what you need tomorrow, entirely different than my generation. I now work with that generation in audiology industry and the patients I see that lived in that time period always want to be self sufficient and will even try to fix their own hearing aids rather than pay for a costly repair. Truly one of the greatest generations. Loved the story, really reminds me of my grandpa and hunting and camping with him and my dad.

My Parents raised 6 kids in a house with a cast iron wood stove. Dad never had to put a fence around the things because he had a method for training us not to touch it. Once we were old enough to be walking around Dad would show us that this black thing is hot and dangerous. He would start with a cold stove, build a fire in it and as it was coming up to heat he would take our hand and cover it with his while holding both hands against the stove. At the point he felt a bit of heat and the young hand started to pull away he would say, "This is Hot, Stay Away". At no point was our hand in danger of burning but we all learned not to touch a hot stove.

Hey Cody. Love the videos. I’ve started doing the bulletproof coffee in my Chemex every day. Best hands down.
One tip though, your filter doesn’t need to be fully expanded. Take one fold from the 4 layers one direction, and the other three the other direction. You’ll end up with a perfect cone. Put the thicker side with 3 layers on the side with the spout for the increased support.
Good luck, and thanks a million for sharing. You inspire me every day!

Mr. Wranglerstar has pleased my wife in ways I cannot!!
Cody just to let you know you have done what I thought wasn't possible. After watching this video I made a decision to start an alike routine with my wife and I. Now I work 3rd shift and my wife works 24hr shifts so finding common time is sometimes hard. This morning we both had time together after I got home from work so I figured ok let's do this. I asked her as she was feeding our baby if she would be interested in coffee. As I guessed she said yes. Little did she know she was going to get the wranglerstar throw down of coffee. I did as you have depicted in the video minus the added oil (only because I didn't have any). When the blender fired up she yelled from the baby room "I thought we were having coffee?" With a devilish look on my face I replied yes dear yes we are. After this total silence. We both then sat down at the table to discuss the finer things in life such as baby puke and diaper changes. I waited for her to take the first drink just watching, waiting intently. The look that came over her face at the first sip is utterly and totally indescribable Cody. She stated where did you get this coffee. I said Mr and Mrs Wranglerstar. She said "Well when you see them next tell them thank you." Since this morning she has yet to stop talking about it. Telling her mother, sisters, and friends alike about the amazing Wranglerstar coffee, which is how it is being called in our house now. So thank you Cody, Wranglerstar coffee is a new staple in our day!!!

The Chemex filters stay in the tri-fold config. One ply closest to the spout and three ply at the back. Rinsing it is meant to remove paper taste but it also keeps the filter from slipping around.
Recipe reminds me of Yak Butter Tea that they consume in Mongolia. They drink it for warmth and energy in their barren climate. Some hacks ive seen are to use a French press like a butter churner to really emilsify it, makes it nice and creamy.

It’s a Chemex. The reason why it is so good is actually the cone shape... when you pour your water, it helps to evenly extract the oils and compounds that give coffee its flavors. There are some really good tutorials on UA-cam about how to make a proper cup with one. The magic really happens when you can get the exact proportions of coffee to water and get the timing right because it will control how long the water and coffee interact, thereby perfecting the amount of extraction. The end result is a coffee that is balanced and VERY smooth!

I really feel your heartache in missing your grandad. A truely remarkable man he must have been to have had such a great impact. I'm glad to see you carry on so many of his lessons.

Coffee Bloom process requires saturating (but not under water) the ground coffee, allow to bloom (rise) for 29 seconds, then pour rest of your hot water.

Thank you for the coffee video, I tried bullet proof coffee years ago but did not realize it needed to be blended, so delicious! If you do not blend it it is disgusting though, so I never tried again till now. I've added it to my daily routine now, and you are quite right, it definitely sticks to your ribs.
What I do is make the coffee the night before, and then put it in the VitaMix long enough that it heats up, makes for much less time involvement before work.
And I love the rambling videos!

Great video Cody!! I love the Grandfather stories as well as the chance to have a glimpse of your family life. It seems to me to be a life well lived, that honors our HEAVENLY FATHER. GOD bless y'all.

Such an elegant way to make coffee. Here in Michigan we find the darkest beans, grind em, run some hot water through em, and drink that stuff black. Maybe a little bit of raw honey.
I'll have to try your way of coffee, I've never even heard of adding butter! Lol

Mr. & Mrs. W, the house looks wonderful. Do Norwegians live there? Back to reality: the table reminds me of the style previously made at Moeller Fabrik outside of Odense(?), DK. Just beautiful. I loved the personal time with you on this video, Mr. W. Thank you, very much.

Chemex pitchers are highly unique due to its completely nonporous composition (originally designed for chemical storage) and the uniquely thick paper filters designed specifically for capturing the coffee's natural oils without sacrificing any of those beautiful aromatics.

14:38 Dear Cody, that was a WISE decision. I'm 28 and staying on my own after living with my parents for WAY too long. They had TV. I didn't buy any for my appartment. The difference is vast. NO TV = Human Interractions!!

I enjoy the stories you tell about your granddad and father. I didn't have that growing up, so it's fun to hear stories about real men.
I'll have to try that bulletproof coffee but without the MCT (coconut allergy). I usually don't like coffee, but I definitely love butter!
Really like your home, and the attention to making family the top priority. God bless.

I knows this is a few years old now but I completely agree. My wife and I have made sure to have at least dinner together at the table every day for 14 years ( ever since the my daughters were born). once we were a real family it just felt right to eat together as a family. I look forward to it every day!

I was raised Seventh-Day Adventist and we had Friday sundown to Saturday sundown our sabbath that was observed as you describe. It was Family oriented, but as a child very boring and now very much appreciated.
Thanks for all your words and God Bless you and your Family.

Goose neck tea pot really helps with the Chemex coffee pot and making a bloom. Helps to get all the beans wet and let it bubble and release the gas before brewing the rest. Brewing coffee at less than a boil is also a little better at cutting down the bitterness. I’m kind of a coffee dork, try Death Wish coffee as well. Tastes great and it’s super caffeinated!

You inspire me a lot Cody. Me being 21 years old I have always been told I’m mature for my age. I can agree with that because I don’t drink a lot but will have a beer here or there. I have a really good construction job. And I don’t go and party. But I have just found my self in a slump. I don’t want to do anything after work. And I make up excuses to why I shouldn’t, Two nights a week I have night classes until 7:30 at night and then a hour drive that follows. So when I don’t have classes I find a excuse to sit on my butt. And I can’t seem to get out of it. Some nights I’ll get motivation to do this or that but then the next night my excuse would be that I did something the night before. I just can’t get out of it. And long story short I was wondering if you could make a video about getting out of a slump how to motivate your self to do something you really do not want to do. I know you talk about the 3 things a day. I just feel I need help because I get overwhelmed.
