    "adding peanut butter makes it unhealthy" Yeah good fats and protein are what's killin your kids..
    Not sure if its actual peanut butter in the cereal but please learn more about general nutrition.

    That's why a healthy lifestyle has to be taught and encouraged at home. Parents have to emphasis it to their children. Exercise, healthy living (including diet) starts at home. It's not the job of schools to do this. Schools can get rid of processed foods, soda/pop, junk food and vending machines and stress exercise/physical education but if it's not done at home also kids will not be healthy!

    I came from a family with 4 kids.. We grew up on eating cereal in the morning or even a snack at night.. All kinds of cereal. I know sugar is not the greatest thing in the world but we all grew up healthy and graduated college. A person just needs to learn to eat anything in moderation. I think thats what is important to learn cause if you really disect everything you eat you end up will finding something wrong with it health-wise.

    I would just assume that the generic have less marsh because the oats are sweeter so they dont need as many unlike lucky charms where the oats are just cheerios with no flavor.
    Also, there really is little diff in the surar amounts if you get a ceral with dehydrated fruit in it or use fresh fruit. As an example. A banana has from 12-18 grams depending on the size. So that is actual more than you would get in a bowl.

    Hello, The fault is the parents who buy them. I have cereal 6 days a week and rotate 3, Supermarket own Corn Flakes, Supermarket Musili and either Supermarket Shreddies or Wheetabix. When I started a food diary I worked out each to a 240 Cals with Semi Skimmed Milk (No Sugar). The Musili was 1/2 a cup, Corn flakes was a Mug. On the Sunday I have Eggs on toast as a treat LOL

    The amount of marshmallows per box varies... Since the mixing machine does not evenly spread the marshmallow/oats in the main batch before dispensing it into the bags. So in saying this, the generic brand may beat the original in marshmallow quantity sometimes and the amounts will never be constant with each box.

    I did the same test a long time ago with Raisin Brand and i found out that the no name bran had double the amount of raisins for a 1 less. Overall i think the thing thats nuts about buying cereal is the price a family box use to cost 5 bucks like 6-8 years ago and that came with two bags. Now its almost 10 bucks to buy a box its crazy.

    Cheerios isn't as healthy as most people think. Sure its healthier than Lucky Charms and its made from whole grain oats. But after those oats are processed and become those little o's there is little nutrition left.

    I agree and his son will gain a little weight dring football season because the coaches tell you to carbo load before a big game so you have energy to play the entire game if the need you too plus football preactice is not nice on the body. Not only do you run up and down on the feild a billion times you also run up and down stairs, lift weights, do drills, and a bunch of other stuff during practice because they want you to last a full game.

    Yeah I feel the same way, and as Divya commented, Weetabix is much healthier than some of the cereals he talked about as being healthy. Also why no fruit? Not all sugar is bad, and if it's from a fruit it's better to have than processed sugar.

    This is why I go for plain granola for my cereal. I just put strawberries in it, and it's delicious. Tastes better than the Cinnamon Toast Crunch I used to eat at least, and healthier for me too.

    One comment about the Lucky Charms marshmallows though, they are just a little bit more in ounces from the generic, but are just more plump looking than the competitor. Actually, there are more secrets behind a lot other GM cereals, but I cant divulge cause my cousin is GM plant manager and he's have to kill me, lol.

  • @cjucoder
    @cjucoder 11 років тому

    The generic vs name brand test was interesting. I've always wondered since cereal is so expensive I never buy it. Another item that claims to be healthy is granola, but read those packages carefully. It is often absolutely loaded with sugar, and those serving sizes are often small cuz they are very calorie laden. Natures Promise Granola: 1/2 cup serving; 250 calories; 10 g sugar! At least it has protein and fiber too which most sugar boxed cereals lack. Thanks, Jack!
