The death of Elvis Presley in 1977 sent shockwaves around the world. He was only 42 years old and his contributions to the music world were immense. It’s clear the San Diegans Gene Gleeson interviewed were sad and stunned. A Tower Records employee said, “Elvis can’t die…it’s not something that can happen, he’s too big…it’s like Frank Sinatra dying or the Beatles dying.” Tower was selling ten or twelve albums a week before he died--50 were sold in just a few hours right after his death. Record stores around the country were scrambling to restock. RCA in Los Angeles described the flood of record order in one word-extraordinary.
Contrary to what this story says, Elvis performed in San Diego twice in 1956-his June appearance is in this, 1970-film included here, 1973, and 1976. We do not have the 1973 concert and we only have fans lined up outside for the 1976 show-included in this piece.

Elvis's death is one of those tragic situations where everyone remembers exactly where they were when they first heard the news.
I was driving my 1966 GTO in Newton, Massachusetts and HAD TO pull over and stop because it hit me like a ton of bricks and I was crying 😢 I began EARNESTLY listening to Elvis in 1956 when I was FOUR YEARS OLD after I saw him on The Ed Sullivan Show it/HE changed my life Music became SO Important to me ! I saw him in 1971 at The Boston Garden when he still looked great but even after everything took it’s toll on him his VOICE NEVER FAILED HIM 🎶♥️‼️I’m 69 now and STILL have all my original 45’s and LP’s plus ALL “The New” Releases both on CD and LP’s which I prefer because of the “warm” Analog Sound ! 2 people I dislike so very much, Tom Parker a TRUE MONSTER 👿 and Dr. Nick who had NO BUSINESS !!! “practicing Medicine” !!!
It's a day that's stay with you for life I was only 14 when the news came on I remember it well it still haunt you until now, hard to believe still my favorite king of music gone but never be forgotten.. No one will be like him

01:30 ... WOW! This is RARE footage of Elvis in 1970. Very little footage of his non-Vegas concerts is out there.
Sadly, more often than not, some enormous artists are somehow done in unexpectedly by some grasping conmen knowing that their profits will definitely increase on the death of the artist. Thus might have been with Elvis Presley as well.
