One of the best "oddball" songs from the 60s. Kudos to the Royal Guardsman for giving us such wonderfully fun songs!

That song never gets old. Snoopy fighting the Red Barron, then roaming the French countryside after getting shot down and crying while Schroder plays old-time songs on his piano. They just stopped making great stuff somewhere along the way. I am so glad it didn't happen when I was a kid. RIP Charles Shultz, you were a great man who brought joy to millions of kids back in the day.

That is a real debate going on with who really killed the Red Baron. The Australian machine gunner that was shooting at him or the Pilot that was shooting at him and was giving credit for the kill.
The Red Baron’s final flight took place on April 21, 1918, when pilots from his Flying Circus engaged a group of British planes over Vaux-sur-Somme, France. As Richthofen swooped low in pursuit of an enemy fighter, he came under attack from Australian machine gunners on the ground and a plane piloted by Canadian ace Arthur Roy Brown.
During the exchange of fire, Richthofen was struck in the torso by a bullet and died after crash-landing in a field. Brown got official credit for the victory, but debate continues over whether he or the Australian infantrymen fired the fatal shot.

One thing I'd always wondered is how well Snoopy would have done in areal combat against Muttley from the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, "Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines." Now, THAT would have been a "real dogfight" . . . .

    Lyrics
After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skies over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder men had never heard
Like the screamin' sound of a big war bird
Up in the sky, a man in a plane
Baron von Richthofen was his name
Eighty men tried, and eighty men died
Now, they're buried together on the countryside
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany
In the nick of time, a hero arose
A funny-lookin' dog with a big black nose
He flew into the sky to seek revenge
But the Baron shot him down (Curses, foiled again!)
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany
Now, Snoopy had swore that he'd get that man
So he asked the Great Pumpkin for a new battle plan
He challenged the German to a real dogfight
While the Baron was laughin', he got him in his sight
That Bloody Red Baron was in a fix
He tried everything, but he'd run out of tricks
Snoopy fired once, and he fired twice
And that Bloody Red Baron went spinnin' out of sight
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany (last chorus repeated in fade til end of song)

This song is on the movie Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Leonardo sings it while relaxing in his pool just before a Manson family member crashes thru his sliding glass door and falls into the pool. Leo runs to get his flame thrower when the crazed nut starts shooting wildly into the air. That whole 15 minute scene towards the end of the movie was awesome! 😄

I was like six years old back in 1976, and for Christmas I got one of those really cheap record players with the monotone speaker that was fit only to play '45s. Well this is the one 45 that my mom bought for me. I used to listen to it for hours, so thanks for the memories.
I could not keep the smile off of my face as I sang with The Royal Guardsman. Don't mind me if I revisit every once in a while.
