December 1914. soldiers on both sides put down their rifles and embraced as brothers. something that had never happened before and has not happened since
dont need too read all about it and studied the 1st world war, the generals knew it was going to be long and didnt want the troops to get used to and fraternise with each other
no they didn't. both sides thought that they would end the war with their next offensive. every time a major offensive was launched they thought they would end the war. and the generals continued to believe that the next big push would end the war all the way to 1918. the next one will do it for sure. they were arrogant and reckless, and millions died because of this.
December 1st 2017, I lost my Father at the age of 20. After my mom and him split I loved to spend Christmas Season with him. And Every morning wake up he'd play this. It was his favourite Christmas Song. I was driving home from work the other day, and I heard this song in the back of my head, it truly showed how much of an influence he was on me. December 2017 me and my 3 sisters and 7 nieces and nephews to me were in too much shock to even realize that he was gone. last year pushed it. this song came on at my new place of work every day just before closing. Lost my Dad at 23. We still miss him dearly since 83. He was my best friend. My Mom just passed 3 years ago. We hold them in our hearts forever. We say hello to them when the moon is full. I see them everywhere.

I've always been embarrassed to love this silly song, but love it I do. And I'm no longer sure it's all that silly. It makes me think of the Great Christmas Truce of 1914 and Ernst Udet's dogfight with a French pilot he always thought must have been the legendary Georges Guynemer.
This song reminds me of the Christmas Truce in 1914 on World War I. It happened in No Man's Land. This shows that the true love of God can bring peace and joy to enemies even for a little while.

In theory, there may have been an encounter between pilots from both sides, but Manfred von Richthofen was not yet the infamous Red Baron. In fact, he was in the cavalry at the time of the Christmas Truce.
The war was over and the Baron dead by December 1918. In theory the Baron could have spared another pilots life and even have forced him to land on his side of the lines in December 1917. BTW, it wouldn’t have surprised me if there had been an Allied airman with a nickname of “Snoopy” back in the day. We could retcon that Snoopy may even have been a reincarnation of that airman.

Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
