  • Today we're attempting to pull a dent out of the front guard of my Holden VT Calais. Let's see how we go! I've never pulled a dent out of a car before, but today I'm giving it a go with a cheap dent puller tool I purchased off eBay.

      You had to start at the top edge of the dent and work your way to the high point because you started at the high point you developed the crease

      @@NewstartGarageOZ good tip, but the crease was there from the very beginning. I'm not convinced starting at the top would have helped in this case, but you never know?

    This is brilliant, thank you for this. Of course the dent (smash, really) on the guard on my VX was much, much worse and couldn't be pulled as it was too far gone (ended up replacing the guard entirely, trip to the wreckers and a DIY paint job later) but this will be great if I end up with any smaller dents... which hopefully I don't.

    Some of my customers are actually PDR guys. I've talked to them at length about what they do as I am interested in taking it up.
    They mostly don't uses the glue pullers at all. Maybe just for areas that they can't get their pry levers into, like the edges of the turret. The little plastic 'pins' you had are for tapping down the area that you pull up with the glue puller if you pull up too far.
    Mostly though they use their levers and lots of patience. They make GOOD money doing it. The best jobs are the hail jobs and they fly around the country after hail storms and can sometimes work for weeks in one place. It's ALL insurance work these days and they make a good living as long as the storms keep up. The rest of the time it's removing parking dings and 'minor' dents although they are competitive and some will take on much bigger dents.
    It works out cheaper than panel beating as long as the paint itself hasn't cracked.
    I'm no expert on this, just going on what they have said to me.

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  4 роки тому +2

      Oh I'm sure they make good money indeed, and would probably have some nasty things to say to me if they saw this. I know it's shit, but it's good enough!

    Those kits aren’t bad for basic dents and will get most of it out, when you have a crease though it gets tricky. Use that kit to get most of a dent out and from there undo the inner wheel guard and massage the dent fr9m the rear bit by bit until it’s all out, don’t hit it as it will make it worse. You really need to slowly massage a dent and slowly is the key, the smaller white plastic tube things you have is used to tap the dent back when you come out too far and again do it bit by bit. The key to dent removal is to do it slowly and not try to get the whole dent out in one shot. Good work

      I bought this one - www.ebay.com.au/itm/113025451127
      You'll notice the dent puller I actually received looks different, but hey it still worked.

      i had a car with bodywork so low i could not get the ramps up to the tire without the plastic hitting the ramps so i placed a 2x4 in front of the ramps to lift the car slightly so i could pull it onto the ramps without issue to the plastic bodywork. worked like a charm and i had to do it again to drive the car back off the ramps.

    If you roll onto a couple of bits of old wooden plank, you'll be able to fit your jack under.

    Paintless dent pulling is a big deal and they do use glue sticks as you know......
    I’ve got a personal view that there is scope to use electromagnets and with a bit of cloth between the magnet head and the dent when you hit the power that thing is locked on and I reckon that would be way better and I don’t believe anyone thought of it yet but then again ideas are cheap you have to actually do something about it........
    I once watched a UA-cam video once where somebody put together 4 D Cell batteries activated the electromagnet and they were able to lift a Toyota Corolla from the roof.....
    If that’s the case you can pull dents......

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 роки тому +1

      In theory I'd agree, it sounds like it'd work. Perhaps glue tabs are cheaper and simpler though? I'm not sure!

    Hey dude I'm sorry you didn't get to sell your vehicle, but I'm not surprised because we are dealing with people and they are as unpredictable as the weather and besides I think you're selling the wrong vehicle, anyway that vehicle is the vehicle you should keep those Ford products those are the ones you need to sell, good job on the den pulling thing.
