Do see this film!! It's rather bizarre but she's worth every minute. Tuesday Weld played the part before her on television. The change of voice comes in when the spirit of the dead goddess takes over her body!

The German accented voice is Hildegard Knef. Novak said she didn’t know the scenes where she’s “possessed” got dubbed until the premier and she was horrified that Aldrich had done that and not told her.

When i see movies or TV programs that have someone's portrait (Kim Novak's in"The Legend of Lylah Clare", the TV movie "A Death at Love House", Lara Parker's portrait in episodes of "Dark Shadows"), I wonder what became of those portraits after the movie or TV show was finished.

I do too! Always wonder if they give them to the actors. Like did Hurd Hatfield get his portrait of Dorian Grey? Also side note: I went to HS with a girl whose dad was an ABC cameraman who worked on Dark Shadows. They had furniture from the set in there house in NJ!

The film may have been trashy however Kim was as allways outstanding, this particuler scene has stood out in my mind for 40 years since i first saw it, regardlless of what other people think, her transformation from sweet innocent starlet to Lilah Clair is a standout of revenge for Molly Luther who just dirtied her dress.Trashy but great in my books!

One critic summed up the cheesiness of the Lylah Clare character perfectly: "The title character is as synthetic as the movie itself; they gave the unfortunate Miss Novak Harlow's hair, Dietrich's voice, Monroe's pout, and Garbo's career." Rent or buy "Vertigo" or "Bell, Book and Candle", if you want to see the lovely Novak shown off to her best advantage. (And then look up her paintings online, and read about her decades of work on behalf of animals, to see just what a multifaceted lady she is. The phrase "not just another pretty face" could have been invented with her in mind.)

That was pure 1960s hair. Jean Harlow never had that hair. Monroe certainly did. The voice is Kims natural voice, excepting that possessed accented tirade. Kim had a deep guttural voice used in several films, like Jeanne Eagels and Of Human Bondage. Nothing of Garbo here, much less of her career!
Bell Book& Candle or Strangers When we Meet are 2 great Kim films.

They want us to promote pro bono. My method is this: I tell the client I`ll attend whatever for food and drink but that I am only obliged to mention not to like. It works! The man who asks, "What do you know about Stanislavski?" and who see in a couple of places before that: is he the real-life journalist Sidney Skolski who was a good friend of Marilyn Monroe? Speaking of Stanslavski, I read an account that Mr. Skolski wasa with Marilyn and also Shelley Winters when the two actresses were informed about Method acting classes being offered somewhere, Stanislavksi being one of the most important figures in Method acting. Marilyn and Shelley took off right away for the class. Sidney Skolski who didn't drive was left behind!

@@redbluesome2829 I agree that Ms. Novak's voice could have been used in this scene. Not only does she have a deep voice but being from the Chicago area and probably having known many people from recent immigrant backgrounds could have replicated their style of speaking and accent. Kim Novak and I have never met in person but are actually cousins. I've had relatives who were born in Chicago but spoke English as a second language. My relatives that I knew from there were of a German (maybe Polish also) and Roman Catholic background (I think that Kim Novak who is Slovakian is also from a Catholic background or maybe Orthodox) but there was sometimes what might be called a Yiddish-sounding lilt or style of speech. Kim Novak is probably familiar with a variety of ways of speaking and in different langauges just from her own growing up years.
