When Luke arrives at the camp the Captain tells him ‘Looks like you done real good in the war, Silver Star, Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts.’ These in fact were the medals won by Clifton James (Carr) as a platoon sergeant in the South Pacific in WW2 serving with the 163 Infantry, 41st Division from January 1942 to August 1945.
