This time three years ago, failing multiple classes as a college freshmen I watched this video and cried for hours. The turn around for me began with Jordan’s advice in this video and continues to this day. The main things I have done are delete my Twitter and Instagram as I was addicted to them, as well as spend countless hours creating an enticing study environment which would make me want to study. What really worked was actually putting my video game monitor directly next to my computer monitor so the work space was more inviting. I Just got accepted into my transfer university for Mechanical Engineering and I can honestly say it would not have happened if it weren’t for this video.

Beyond this I would add, just in making progress on a meaningful path everything is better. Food tastes better, relationships are better, less anxiety, more excitement for tomorrow. Hell is a real place and not taking responsibility is a straight line path to it.

I did something, quite simple, that can serve other people: I eliminated the notifications of all the apps on my cell phone (I only left some essential ones as a battery), I eliminated all the social media apps (if I want to access one I have to open a browser , and since that sometimes takes more time and the experience is not the same because I hardly use social networks), I installed an app blocker (I use it to block UA-cam and to avoid reading the newspapers). I have been like this for months and I can say that I feel better ..... I feel that if obstacles are added to an activity, the brain by itself is lazy to perform them and inevitably you will spend less time. I took a course (Learn to learn) and I understood that willpower is better to use it in a few cases, using it too often exhausts you physically and emotionally. Regarding planning, I feel that it is something that is continually being improved. What I have difficulties with is that I try to work at least 12 to 16 hours a day, and many times I am hard on myself. It is something I must work on. But I'd rather criticize myself for working too much than for not working or wasting time.

This is one of the best, caring speeches I've ever heard. Jordan goes out of his way to highlight everything he can in 15 minutes like he's putting his kid on a train to the world. Treating yourself like you're someone you really wish to take care of is very valuable advice. Often we take care of others and lovingly coach others, but we treat ourselves with disdain.

It took me 2 years of being motivated for a few days, followed by a week of sarcastic self hatred. About a month ago I started reliably getting up between 4 and 5 (This is one of the things I started working on at the beginning two years ago), I'm working out, and finally becoming the person I've always wanted to be. I still have a shit ton to work on and still probably waste half my day but... I tell you people. Just start. And every time you fail just try again. I've probably failed countless times just trying to get myself to get up early in the morning, and it fuckin sucks. But just keep going at it.

I just don’t understand why the teachers at my university are dull and boring. I’ve been in school for four years and I’ve only had one great professor who taught us things many professors don’t even do. I’ve learned a lot of things that are different from the standard textbook in this class and I just wish that there were more teachers like that. Im starting to doubt myself and question my own purpose of going to school because the teachers there are not able to do something similar as that one class and it feels that they are rushing things. It’s like a majority of the classes want you to look at a PowerPoint that is over 50 slides long and it’s also nearly impossible to take notes at the same time because they just move so fast that they don’t even point out very important things to talk about and start conversations about. But yeah that’s how I feel about all this.

At this point I feel like I'm heading nowhere with my career nor my education. What are my interests? What are my goals? Where do I see myself in 5 years? How am I to answer all of this? How many times do I have to lie in motivation letters?

I didn't have the motivation or maturity to take care of responsibilities in education right after high school , so I joined the military. It forced me to prioritize my life and helped me to grow. Although I initially planned to only stay four years and then go to college, I ended up staying for 22 years. I found full-time employment after retiring and began school a few years later. It was a whole new game this time--my focus and dedication to goals allowed me to complete a STEM bachelor and master's degrees in only fours years, both with high honors--all while still working full-time. I planned a 'front load' method where I would work the hardest on the first three days of the week and finish all coursework by Friday. I rarely had to spend any weekends studying or completing assignments. Self-discipline is the key and I am so thankful of my life lessons in the military of responsibility and accountability. Dr. Peterson's point about writing cannot be more true. I have been complimented on my ability to write clearly and provide analysis of complex problems. I am on track to reach senior positions in the near future because of my communication skills. It pays--literally.

He has a very clear vision of what is right or what is not, be prepared to be blown with his honesty if you are someone who disagrees to his point because there is no way he's going to dilute his point of view to find a common ground with you . NO - you need to learn to think. Thinking makes u act effectively in the world, thinking makes u win the battles u undertake & those could be battles for good things" -best thing I've heard in a while
For other students struggling to study and who thinks your gaining nothing.
As someone who was struggling to find purpose to study for exams, which I have right now. This really showed me a different perspective of studies. I completely agree with it, from creating a well-thought out schedule to learning how to stay focused & disciplined while studying, as well as, changing my mindset from a " ugh I have to study now cause I have to stay disciplined" to a "I actually get to study and want to atleast try and find interest in it". These are qualities that's needed in this world in order to make progress in something. I finally see some kind of benefit when studying - even if I won't use exactly what I'm studying rn and the grade that I get won't matter much in a couple years. I will gain more than I think through this, as well as improve my grades heh ;)

@@goshu123 I'd strongly recommend spending as much time as you can to study while you're young. We retain information we memorize in our teens and early 20s far better than anything we learn later.
My biggest and only regret in life is spending >50% of those precious years surfing the internet and playing games. I ended up learning to read and speak Japanese in the process by playing games and watching cartoons in Japanese, but I still wish I'd have spent more time reading college level textbooks on STEM subjects instead.
That said I don't think all games are an absolute waste of time. I don't regret playing any Soulsborne games for one; they really build character and I'll probably have my kids play them in the future, too. Same with Trails series games. I wish I could erase all the time I spent on online games though.

Watching this video reminded me that one of the most eye-opening perspectives that got me through to make good choices early on is being pessimistic. Pessimism may push me to look at every single negative thing in everything, but it’s helped me see the reality to do better, focus on my weaknesses, and live life through this ugly, imperfect world. I have insulted, undermined, or blamed people around me for their wrongs and flaws, but criticism may have helped the other person from a worse outcome. Not to say that the way I treat people in a passive aggressive way is my motto, but it’s my reaction if someone does wrong to me. I still hold to this principle, but I know that life can be better for others than this way. My benefits were less regrets, high expectations/goals, disciplined character, already meeting up to lots of advice given to me, and getting ahead in life.

The message is really good and a lot of people can take note of the points. I too am beginning to understand how valuable time is. My problem with this video is that he just gives it in a way a preacher would do, and that is what I greatly dislike. Imagine everything he says, but without his intonations, without his skewed examples, without repeating the same thing over and over again.
While there is a lot of truth. When something feels inspiring the moment you experience it it mostly boils down to a feeling. And while it helps some to act; it also puts you in an entire mood. I don't like others trying to motivate when they are clearly doing it in a preachy style. It's a very American way of communication which, surprisingly, I'm not really fond of.
The comment section is also one who doesn't even THINK that people who dislike this are sensible human beings. And that was the nail in the coffin for me. If there is no room to speak about a subject differently than his preachings worked. You must be inspired or - as he puts it - you'll end up in hell.

I asked myself this question a year ago and I realized first of all, and please think if this applies to you as well: I don't shower nearly as much as I should. When I'm alone I just didn't see the need to. The need was there though. I also didn't brush my teeth as much as I should. I then jotted it down in my schedule and did it until it became a habit.
I then turned my view out to my room. I have clothes on the floor, dust bunnies in the corners of my room, and I still have some empty cartons of whatever drink I like just sitting on the table, as well as the plate I use and reuse everyday for eating. This was level 2. I put it in my schedule with red text. I unlock this when level 1 becomes a habit.
I also put down a set amount of hours for core procrastination. Core procrastination is procrastination I can do no matter how much work I have to do. It's self indulgence that heals the soul. 6 hours is what I set myself a goal to do. So whenever I didn't have something to do, I started the countdown, and whenever I had something to do I paused it. When it was over and I didn't have something to do, that's when I would start adding things to my schedule.
The year is October 26th 2022 and this is what I've been doing for a year now.

8:04 to 8:24 really hits my heart, because I spent my whole life denying God -- not because of the biblical narratives, but really because of the moral responsibility. There's something so degrading about being responsible enough to refrain from certain pleasures while noticing that my being is inherently flawed. It really takes a lot to appreciate some 'Heavenly' grace because of natural inclinations that only leads to temporary desires I'm spiraling down to spiritual death.
It's not until now that I've realized that if I focus my efforts & responsibilities on the appreciation of the blessings in my life, I will tend to understand how to love myself, the people around me, or even God Himself.
    This is so humbling.

I agree. Our fleshly nature is full of sin! But when God touches our spirit, we start to long for heavenly things!
To "take up your cross" is a direct quote from the Bible! One has to know the whole context though! Very important!
Here we see someone who explains what they believe it to mean for example:
      activechristianity.org/what-does-it-mean-to-take-up-your-cross-daily
Furthermore, I must say an important thing: I believe many people (christians) are struggling with their sexuality (I am one of them)! And it has to be noted that when this was written, people got married at a much younger age! Today's world will have us "Wait 'til were ready"! But that's not really how it works! Everything comes with consequences in this world.
Paul speaks plainly about this in Corinthians 7! "It is better to marry than to burn with passion!" and "Because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband"!
I regret not having found a woman in my youth! Now instead, I have uncontrollable inner lusts towards every attractive female! I made mistakes and have gotten addicted to the idea of having sex with a woman I can love! But I don't have anyone! So all I feel is lonely instead!
This is the wickedness of sin! It takes something that would be magical (sex) within a marriage and tempts us beyond control so that we don't find a marriage/partner to love! What christian woman would want a man who is obsessed with sex? I wouldn't mind a woman who was, but I'm not a woman... 😐 And now I feel worthless and unlovable, unworthy to ever have a woman... 😣😭

The best way to quit UA-cam is to not quit UA-cam. Last year I made my main browser Google Chrome have my UA-cam stuff, but it was strictly school. Anytime I wanted to watch/listen to non-school related UA-cam I opened FireFox. This was the best idea I've ever had, why? Because the only things recommended to me during my homework time on Chrome was homework related videos. I have yet to use my Chrome for non-school related work and all my recommended channels all focus on school. It's awesome.
Another social media tip--turn your notifications completely off. Facebook app and messenger no longer send me notifications for messages or me being tagged in something. I check those apps when I want to check it and on my terms. This way it's not distracting me while I'm doing school work. Same thing with my text messages, I take all the notifications off so even when I'm on my phone checking something for school I don't get distracted with messages. Putting a phone on silent wasn't enough, I could still see the red #1 pop up and my phone still vibrated. I keep all notifications off at all times so I only check stuff when I want to. I spend sooooo much less time on social media now and it's amazing

I don't understand why people want to "quit" YT. It has so many valuable resources to watch and learn from. It's amazing, it actually saves you from wasting your time because you have direct control over what you watch. Most people just sit on the couch and watch TV, it doesnt matter if there's smth interesting on it, they'll just watch whatever is on it + tv adds. That's just time wasting. You don't have to stay focused all the time, it's impossible. Make a schedule and stick to it but also plan smth in it that you enjoy, otherwise your brain will go crazy. If I enjoy watching cars on YT then so be it but don't put watching cars on YT over everything else that's more important in your life. Easy to say then do but possible. And with the social media, I decided to delete all my accounts about a year ago. I'm not on FB, I'm not on Insta, and I don't waste my time anymore.

Almost turning 20 now with no motivation and ambitions in life. Only having a head full of dreams doesn't fix things. Time to give it my all!

TBH I came here just to have something to listen to while making food.
But I had to stop to cry for a moment because I'm finally hearing someone acknowledge that people have to negotiate with themselves ... and he says it so candidly too!
Maybe I spend too much time in mental health and self help circles, but so many people tell me I'm crazy to have to negotiate with myself, that I should just get in a mindset where I want to do it, and it's so unfair!
Thank you for acknowledging that people negotiate with themselves. I feel worlds better.

the book "E-myth revisited" greatly describes this, you are absolutely right here.
we are not always willing to do the hard work, we sometimes just dont feel like it - and thats where negotiation has to be done.
I highly recommend reading that book if you are interested in business.

True, however I don’t agree with everything he says. Largely though yes he is extraordinary.

Hello there Jerrett - seeing as you liked M2S's video above (I love their videos as well), I would really appreciate your thoughts on mine? I am in the same motivation niche and I am trying to improve my videos, so would love your opinion - do you think you could take 2 mins to let me know what you think? Of course, if you like what you see and you want to sub that would be absolutely amazing! Let me know and I can reply when you do 😄 All the best, MM

@@MotivationMood I just watched your video PUSH. Pretty good motivation. My suggestion would be to have the music swell up near the end instead of be the same throughout. I listen to daily motivation on Spotify and that works great for workouts. Also noticed you’ve got yourself some subscribers and aren’t posting anymore. Don’t let them down dude, keep posting. Maybe start posting on Spotify too bc it’s easier to listen to during a workout. Also less effort bc there’s no video to worry about. Looking forward to more of your vids, never stop never stopping!

The emotional journey this man publicly went on is deep, and inspiring. This man has faced these issues head on in his own way, and wishes for nothing but others to never feel that pain, or confusion. When listening to this man, step back for a minute. Stop being in the moment. Think of what his words would mean directly if he were personally talking to you.
I say "this man" and not his name because around his name is controversy.
The lessons this man has learned, regardless of political view, are beneficial to humanity.
This man over the years has lead me to realize were not our name, who others say we are. We are human beings... "and that's bloody complicated".
