Jay's comment towards the end was very revealing, especially for a car enthusiast. People kind of thought or perhaps still think the Boxster and Cayman are the downgrades or economy Porsches. In fact, they are sublime and a joy to own and drive. It's really about the way a car or motorcycle makes you feel, not the supreme power or label.

I purchased a 718 at the end of 2021. I dreamt of owning a boxster when I was younger but never thought I'd be able to afford one. Fast-forward, I'm 23 at the time carving through the seaside clifftops of highway 1 -- carefree and loving the sound of the engine and the feel of the transmission. Part of me wants to upgrade to the RS as it will be the last gen that isn't electric -- but there is something so charming about the 718 even without a flat 6 in it.

But the reason why I said the Boxster 986 as the car that saved Porsche was because I was talking about a specific time in the 90s where there was a big recession and at the time Bugatti went bust and would not return till 10 years after but the 986 was what saved Porsche at that time as an affordable sports car and it did so well that they couldn’t keep up with demand now we have the Cayenne and Macan as I would say the best SUV and crossover on the market and that’s helping Porsche make the Speedster, GT3, GT4, GT2, Panamera, and Taycan and they’re still going to keep on making sports cars! Jay my first Porsche was an 07 Boxster S which I bought while in a golfing trip to South Carolina. I returned with the car to Canada. I had the care for a few years then sold it for what I paid for it. I loved it so much I am now driving my 3rd Porsche which is a 2020 718 Spyder. What a wonderful car. My car is now garaged until the spring. Anyway take care Jay and keep up your great work.

Less is more. The Boxster is not inferior to the 911, it just has different values, having the most power not being one of them. Some of us would rather not play the power game, and instead, concentrate on the driving. This Boxster is such an amazing car, to lust after more (it has what, 400hp?) seems kind of greedy!

A Cayman with 911 parts will beat a 911. It's all bolt-on but Porsche won't do it themselves.

Dear Mr Leno, I've enjoyed many of your garage videos very much. Your sharing of knowledge and details, the time and perfection in care and restoration, the experience of hearing and seeing them on the road. I've heard you talk about a "proper gear box". My mother who recently passed at 96 was a huge fan of yours and I never managed to get her to one of your shows which she would have been thrilled over. Her cousin, Carl Gardella, who also passed was an ultimate car guy, an ace mechanic, held a boat racing record as mechanic for woman driver. I believe he also was into Chords, and sold custom parts for them. Anyway, I'm writing because I lost my viginity, meaning I bought my first 5 speed manual, a 20 year old Porsche Boxster. F'n transmission is giving me headaches! Well I will keep practicing, it's the lights and stops where I stall it. On the road it's wonderful. It is the first car that I enjoy as much as a motorcycle. Just wish I had the automatic! Thanks a lot. hahaha. Thank you for giving my mom years of enjoyment from the Tonight Show to finish up her day.

    I love the 986 Boxster.
    I don't own one, I have a 996 911.
But the existence of a much cheaper car that shares so many parts is great for the availability of used spares, and the price of new ones!
