Dude you turned that mustang into a beast. Sounds perfect for garage rock. I have a squier vintage modified jag and it sounds insane. People be sleeping on squier
Cheers! A squier jag is on my to get list! So much guitar for the money. Glad you enjoyed the sounds.
I realize this is 3 years old but if you might remember? Did you say, you just put the new compensated saddles on the stock bridge the guitar came with?
I love what you did with it!
Bravo, Sir
It's the next day. I actually watched the video of you making the bridge. I love it. I have 24" scale hardtail squire strat with that same bridge. I am defineatly putting compensated saddles on mine, I really like the look. Well Done and thanks
Flippin' great! Love the mods and the tones!
Thank you! Appreciate it!
holy shit, man! that tonal variety is definitely out of this world!
Cheers man! Thanks for watching
Nice! This is what I want to do for a squire or fender mustang, because the jag-stang hybrid was pretty sweet, rock on dude!
Cheers!
Cool idea with the pickups!! Looks Great!!
Thanks! Appreciate that!
Here’s a fretboard tip: use baby oil. What? Baby oil?? Yes, it’s 100% mineral oil with some fragrance added and that’s it. There’s arguably nothing better for your fretboards longevity
My favorite guitars ever are my 1966 Duo-Sonic II's in Olympic white. Simple, uncomplicated and great to play. I like what you did to this Squier. You basically turned it into a Duo-Sonic II. The body may be too thin to add a push-pull pot or even larger nicle-sized pots. Great video.
Love a duo sonic! Glad you liked the video!
Dude! Great riffs!
Thank you sir!
Nice work :) I like the single coil in the neck, the beautiful pickguard and compensated bridge ect. I have a stock Surf Green Squier Bullet Mustang that could be much better with these mods.
Those are are all worth doing and easy enough to do. Would love to see it when you get done. Surf green is a super cool colour!
Same here. I dont know if I want a pearloid, tortoise shell, or stock pickguard. They all look good to be honest.
Very nice indeed ,what a great modding platform .Just bought one for £90 in black on Reverb and cant wait to get started .I'll stick with the HH for now but that HS is a great look and sound too and real food for thought cheers .p.s a pity they replaced the Bullet with the heavier slab body Sonic but still plenty about used
well into that middle position. Squier is absolutely killing it at the minute, my Jag is an absolute dream!
Glad it's not just me then! What you think, out of phase? Or something else. I promise I did know what all these terms meant before I had kids!
Destroying Amp Gear Demos yeah out of phase I’d imagine esp if the other positions work fine! Series is one pickup going into the other and parallel is both at the same time 👍
@@HOLYISLANDAUDIO thanks man!
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos Definitely out of phase. The Jag-stang guitars from the 90s have that out of phase sound as an option in the switching. Although it is quirky, I find it's a pretty useful sound to have in the bag of tricks. Really like what you did to this guitar.
@@meadish ah thanks man! Appreciate confirmation on that. Its been years since I played a guitar with that option (60s Duo-sonic). Thanks for watching!
Ah some interesting mods, I also had a luthier spray my VM Mustang neck with a nitro tint because it was pale as shit.
It did improve the entire feeling of the neck for the positive :)
So if I understood you correctly, you used the stock bridge but replaced it with Telecaster saddles? Cool!
Correct! If you check my videos there is a video of me carrying out the mods and explaining a bit further. Cheers for checking the video. Appreciate the comment!
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos Cool!
Thanks for letting me know, I'll check it out!
Don't hurt yourself there Skip!
It looks so good! I'd love to buy one like it
Plenty second hand I've noticed lately
Hi! Have you used adapter bushing to mount vintage tuners? Does the spacing between the vintage klusons match the spacing between the stock tuners?
Thank you for the video! I really liked your work on modifying Squier! The sound is out of phase, by the way, that's cool. I made a phase switch on the middle on my strat. I'm a big fan of Steve Albini and I know that in Big Black he used sound out of phase on his guitars. I also plan to buy a mustang bullet and modify it in a similar way. In cheap guitars, the most important thing is that the neck is straight and the truss rod is in good condition. Everything else is not so critical, especially with fuzz =)
You really should shim the neck. Leo Fender designed offset guitars to have a slight pitch-back to the neck. I don't understand the physics of it, but I know from personal experience that it makes a big difference with intonation.
Hello, From The StateS 🇺🇸 Watching this video over & over.. And Your playing style 🎸🎶 I want this same guitar & ect. I enjoy your UA-cam Channel &
Thanks For Sharing 🎸🇬🇧 🎶💪 ✌
Thank you 🙏 😊
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos Hello, Family.. Do you have to do any changes for the turners?? Or just a drop in?? I like the ones you put onto this Guitar.. Do you still own it?? Thanks, Take Care for now ✌
Middle position out of phase sounds cool
Yeah its one of my favourites!
I enjoy your company too, Hurb 💖
Thanks Doog. See you online later x
see you at the egg market
Awesome mate , where can I get a pick guard like that?
Got mine from ebay pal. Cheers.
What spray did you use? Looks ace, mate.
Thanks! It was from a company called Dartfords. You can get them on ebay or Amazon. I think I used tobacco tint.
Its thin in the middle position because you used a reverse wound neck pickup. Switch your positive and negative on that pickup and it will fix your problem.
Yeah I figured. Thanks though. I quite like the option for now. But good to know I have the option to easily change it in the future. Cheers
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos I agree out of phase csn be cool but you have a more useful tone wired properly. Then add an out of phase mini toggle. Would look pretty sweet between the vol/tone pots!
@@mr.mcmagpie6606 ah yeah thats not a bad idea at all! Maybe use a push pull knob?
What kind of neck pickup did you use? I just ordered the same pickguard and been looking for some options before it gets here.
Unfortunately I don't know what it was as it just came out of my parts bin I've accrued over the years. But any low output mustang style pickup will give similar results.
What kind of gloss did you use in the neck??? what a really good work!! congrats
Dartfords nitrocellulose tinted lacquer from ebay. Cheers man!
i have order the pickguard, the lacquer and the single coil cover. I'll try to attach an original Mustang Tremolo.
thank you so much
@@SideBurnsESP awesome, let me know how you get on!
Is that standard tuning? It looks like your just barring the first 3-4 strings, but it sounds more like a power chord (I know almost nothing about music--I just played regular chords on an acoustic for 20 years, but recently fell in love with a bullet mustang HH and saw this video come up).
Hey. Its a while since I made the video, but I would think it would be either standard or perhaps some parts in drop d. Which sounds like what you are describing. Basically you tune the low e to d . This allows an easy bar chord.
Cheers
The bullet mustang is fantastic!
I'd swap the wiring around on the single coil.
I'm really impressed with the sounds you have, but I don't see any indication of what the new neck pickup is in either video. What is it?
Not sure what it came out of as it was just one from my parts bin. But some kinda mustang pickup
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos Much appreciated. Do you still have it in? Mind taking an impedance on it?
Why did you put on a 3 saddle bridge?
what string gauge are they,. usually mustangs sound like they are borderline out of tunes because the strings are so light. your sounds a bit more stable
11s
Hey dude, I hope you see this, but I did what many forums said was impossible. I fit a mustang vibrato on my bullet! Many said that it is too shallow of a guitar to be able to route out. But, Fender routes about 3mm deeper than they need to, which means that you can fit a vibrato on with about 4ish mm to spare. If you feel adventurous enough, it is totally worth it. It was my first time doing a route, but the vibrato plate is very forgiving as far as mistakes are concerned. It is too much fun. So, after adding the vibrato, tinting the neck, and adding a perloid pickguard, my surf green bullet looks and plays amazingly! I got the guitar itself on sale for $100 USD, and put in about $50 USD into it. Additionally, if anybody know a way to wire two slide switches as kill switches along with the three way toggle that would be greatly appreciated.
Fantastic! I must admit to loving the look of a mustang trem but of its feel as a trem. But now I know it can be done....I may be tempted. Cheers
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos let me know if you have any questions on how I did it.
@@manray7189 will do cheers. If you find me on Instagram (same name) would love to see pictures of your build.
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos I don't have an Instagram but I could email you them.
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos here is a link to a Flickr page of my mustang. I have tape over the switch holes for now. I will upload photos of my sloppy route job. aswell.www.flickr.com/photos/193173776@N03/
👍 Good friend 🙂 💫 nice job. 🙂 💫 👍 Rock on!
Where did you buy the tinted nitrocellulose spray? I am currently modding my squier mustang and i want that vintage-y look that you've got on the neck.
From ebay. Company called Dartford. I used the lightest tint.
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos thanks!
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos did you sand the wood before you applied it?
which is the wood spray that u used??
greetings from Mexico :) .
I used a tinted nitrocellulose product from a company called Dartford in the UK. But any good quality tinted nitrocellulose spray paint should achieve the same result s. Cheers man and thanks for watching!
did you replace the bridge ?? or did you just pop the brass saddles in?
Just the brass saddles
❤️
Hey have you got a wiring diagram for the single coil to be added. Thanks
Just remove the humbucker wiring and replace with single coil wiring to the same spots.
Can you put in the description all the stuff you bought to mod the guitar?
Ebay links should be in the description. Cheers.
Putting fender logos on squiers is just lame. Squiers are awesome. You are not what you own.
100% agree with this!
+ 1 don’t know who people are trying to please by doing that 😂
@@HOLYISLANDAUDIO I would put money on it being bedroom warriors! Lol
did you modiefied the bridge for the saddles?
Yes I had to drill 3 extra holes. If you check out an earlier video on my channel I made a video of the process. Cheers
So you just made Kurt Cobain's guitar but cheaper 😂😂
Hey man where did you get the pickguard.
Also what amp are you using. Sounds 👍
Hey, it was just from ebay. Not expensive either. No amp on this just a few pedals in to Ableton running guitar rig. Tweed amp sim. Cheers!
I’m thinking you need a fuzz pedal of some kind. I mean, sure you’re getting some good clean sounds n all… but mix it up some. 😵💫🤣
Haha!
I'd like to mod my bullet mustang like this but I dont know how :(
I have a video on my channel of me doing the mods. Should all make sense after watching that one! Cheers
Ok thx
Sounds great. Looks sexy. Good job 👏🏻
Cheers x
I can’t find a hs pickguard anywhere in the US! Sucks ass! Only ones I can find are from the UK or for a standard mustang with the vibrola.
I believe warmoth sells them
@@DestroyingAmpsGearDemos ended up finding a seller on eBay who made custom pickguards based off of Kurt Cobain’s mustangs specifically for the bullet. I’m buying a Seymour Duncan antiquity for the neck. Gonna sound and look beautiful
@@nehemiahzo_ brilliant! Gonna be sweet

Why don't you buy a Fender instead of modifying a budget guitar?
Because its great fun! I do and have had 'real' Fenders including vintage ones. And they are awesome too. But there is massive guilt modifying them.
Because they are much more affordable and they can become really good.
