I'll help you with this one: Milka isn't swiss. It's austrian. And the italian influent in "Torino" is because we got 4 different laguages in Switzerland, one of 'em is italian. Same for "Callier" which is from the french speaking part. You were right with your pronunciation of Nugat. Darvida is a veeery vintage thing ;). It's usually without chocolate and meant to be a typical snack for example for students, 'cause it should be healthy. every swiss child had those in their lunchboxes. Ovomaltine is actually a chocolate drink (hot milk with the ovomaltine chocolate powder). There's something isotonic in it, so in the advertises you can always see skiers or snowboarders drinking it, talking about how much it helps you to improve for example you endurance during sports. I can't imagine to drink it while I'm in the gym. But it's definitely a "must-drink" during cold days. But they started producing cookies and chocolate bars recently, that's what you got there. The Basler Leckerli is a gingerbread cookie, with honey and candied fruits in it. Typical for the canton of "Basel" in the North-West of Switzerland. But our country's not that big, so you can have it everywhere and everyone knows it. Like probably everything you got there ;) Talking about typical things for cantons, the "Katzenzüngli" are typical for the beautiful canton of "Lucerne" .. google this one. this city is just stunning. That's it. Was fun to see you enjoying our sweets!
I'm Swiss and I freaking love that video! I'm happy to see that you like our stuff and you pronounce the names so cute haha. So if you need more of this ragusa thing or other just let me know and I'll send you some :D
The ricola has the stress on the "i", so it's not ricola but ricola. Heart in German is "Herz", Herzli is a Swiss belittlement, so it means "Heartlet". Leckerli's translations is already part of the video name -it means treat.
Yolo hahaha e rivella fläsche isch imfall zue also chan au d cholesüri nit entweiche. E rivella het nach 1 johr gliech viel kohlesüri wie kurz nachdems grad abgfüllt worde isch ;)
sorry I know I'm almost a year late but my mum is Swiss and we have a recipe book that has the Leckerli thing in it but its called Hausleckerli. It's in German but ill try my best to translate. 350g flour 50g chopped orange and lemon peel a large pinch of cloves powder 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp salt 250g honey 125g sugar 100g chopped hazel nuts It needs to be rolled out to about 1cm thick and cooked for 5-10 minuted at 200 degrees celcius for the topping; 100g icing sugar 1 tbs lemon juice and some water if needed (it should be a runny consistency) I hope this helped and would love to see you try it out
+Newly Swissed I kept correcting his pronunciations as if he could hear me, hahaha! Mind you I am used to it. My partner has put me in many giggle fits when we are on holidays in Switzerland.
Good video! Ragusa is really incredibly good, one of the best things ever made of chocolate and I can eat it every day. You'll never get tired of it. The chocolate "twigs" branche are actually the "cheap stuff" for us, imagine that...
Alright, here is some «Läckerli/Leckerli/Läggerli» education. Leckerli means something like «goodie» or «treat», but is a very old-fashioned expression. The ones you had are from Basel, my hometown, you can find them everywhere here. As a child, I didn't like them, they were too chewy and the nuts stuck to my teeth. But now, I like them a lot. The recipe is hundreds of years old and comes from a time when many of our treats would be honey- and spice based. There are other biscuits called Lekerli from the areas of Bern and Zurich, but the recipes are very different, although all are nut-based. There are actually quite a lot of biscuit-like treats in Switzerland that resemble gingerbread, like for instance the «Biber» or «Biberli», which sounds like the German word for beaver, but it's derived from another old word. They're basically round patty-shaped gingerbreads with an almond-paste filling, and are a popular snack all year round. When you go for a hike in the Swiss alps or in the hills, be sure to pack some ovomaltine bars and some Biberli.
I love your Video so much, because I know all the Stuff becaue I'm Swiss and it's so funny because I know how to pronounce the names and it's so cool how exited you are ^^ Now i'm exited too ^^
It's called "Cailler" and pronounced "Cay-eh". "Herzli" actually means "little heart". "Ovomaltine" is the original name of the Swiss brand, the export versions are called "Ovaltine".
Happy Birthday Barry ... loving the green screen too, way so cool to watch your video using it, you used some great graphics!! Great idea for this type of video!
Barry you are seriously the best cooking youtuber ever, I really like all of your videos and you are the funniest youtuber ever and I always have a good time watching your videos.
Great video but, you should have bought the real Läckerli from Basel... not from the Coop... okay the one from the coop are cheaper but... I mean the one from Basel are much better...
Milka is swiss: On 17 November 1825, the SWISS chocolatier Philippe Suchard (1797-1884) established a pâtisserie in Neuchâtel, where he sold a hand-made dessert named chocolat fin de sa fabrique and began manufacturing chocolates the next year. In 1901 the Suchard company had the MILKA trademark registered.
Haha I'm Swiss and that definitely made me laugh ^^ especially the Darth Vador one..how come I've never thought of it before!? I used to be given some for school breaks, and god knows we played Star Wars in the playground.. Having moved to the UK, I'm craving these SO MUCH right now ;')
A little History of Swiss Läckerli: The Basler Läckerli (also Leckerli or Läggerli, lecker meaning "delicious" in German and -li being a diminutive suffix) is a traditional hard spice biscuit originating from Basel, Switzerland. It is made of honey, hazelnuts, almonds, candied peel, and Kirsch. The flat baked dough is, when still hot, cut into rectangular pieces. It is then topped with a sugar glaze. Basler Läckerli were originally created by local spice merchants over 700 years ago and is available year-round. Best Regards @BarryLewis
+Steve G - Tronic Wurde von Suchard (Schweiz) erfunden, siehe oben habs schon geschrieben aber mit mondelez hast du natürlich recht. Produziert wird sie meines Wissens in Lörrach(DE).
For a Swiss living in the UK, your video made my mouth water. Your parcel included a few of my favourites. A pity the parcel didn't include Zweifel Paprika Chips (crisps in the UK) you'd love those too.
you know, alot of stuff in switzerland has a french name, for example Cailler, since we have 3 languages here hahah so it's kinda funny when you try to pronounce it german..ish :'D
Appenzeller Bieberli has to be my ultimate favourite. I always ask for this when family from Switzerland visit. Most things on this list are absolutely delicious. Huge fan of Rivella as well.
branche is the greatest. In switzerland, they actually put a piece inside croissants....when melted....ahhhh heaven! regusa.....this is in the champions league of chocolate bars.

idgaf huh I live in Switzerland and for me it is not expensive, because the thing is getting used. (translator on point, i hope you understand what i mean)
***** The brand belongs to a company in the U.S., it's was made by a Swiss man and it's made in multiple companies around Europe, which is why so many people from multiple countries think it's their brand.
As a Swiss person it's very funny to watch this video :D I'm glad that you liked our most known treats! It's really a lot of good chocolate in our country. The Ricola candy isn't really a medicine, we eat it like all the other candies... The one you tasted was the classic one and because of the real herbs in it, it is also helping like a medicine. There are also many other flavours - like lemon or any kind of berry. Well I really enjoyed this video and it's funny to hear you pronouncing this brands so funny ;)
Loved the vid, reminded me of my youth (I live in US now, left Switzerland when I was 17) When You pulled out some of the chocolates I was like "Ooooh yeaaaaah... that stuff is good". :d Langue de chat is probably the worst on this list though, lol, but I guess compared to American Hershey (Not sure what country you are from) it must taste like heaven. ;)
Greetings from switzerland AWESOME video ( videos ) but you have to taste the swiss beers, swiss meat, swiss sugar cubes, swiss specialities like fondue raclette.............. Keep on your work is awesome
I'm from Switzerland (i speak french (swiss) and Swiss-German). the Läckerlis are small biscuits familiar with the gingerbread with honey, candied fruit and almonds, this is very appreciate in the swiss German part (Switzerland is separate in 4 linguistic regions, Swiss Italian, Swiss German, Swiss Romand (french speaker) and Romansh (only speak in Switzerland) ) I really like this. Sorry for my bad english i'm at school XD
nougat.....new gut. well thats how we pronounce it. green screen is cool. glad you got to play with it. i am sure it will be useful. now bring back the kitchen please. thank you
Hey Barry in the Leckerli are liquid honey, sugar, cinnamon, clove powder, nutmeg, almonds, hazelnuts, candied orange peel, lemon peel, lemon, flour / glaze: water and sugar depends on the variation greets from switzerland
I expected you to taste rivella, maybe another time! :) I just discovered your videos I found them pretty good! Subscribed ;) By the way, it's not Gaila, but Cailler! Whatever, it made me laugh!

It's so funny to watch this video, when you're swiss.. :D Your pronounce is SO funny.. :DD The branche call we "Brüggeli" and the first chocolate you tried is pronounced like 'callier' and not 'gailer', the Leckerlis are better with some warm chochlate.. :D I would like to correct you., but this video is just over a year ago. xD
ohmygod, this "mooh" in the milka part scared me so hard oml, cuz i weared headphones 😂 - i'm from Switzerland and how u said "Cailler" & "Ricola" hahah xD but this video is really funny and when u like Ragusa, u have to try Ragusa Blond, it's SOOOO delicious 😍
It's funny because i live right around the corner of a little shop and you can find all of that stuff in there, so i've been eating all that chocolate since i was really young. But what i find weird is that when i went to england, i was at the airport and there were half a dozen different flavors of Toblerone which you can't get ANYWHERE in Switzerland!
As a Swiss it's a lot of fun to watch this Video.
Hahaha yes xD
+Kilian Kunz but he missed some of the best things
+Kilian Kunz Especially when he said "Gailler" XD
ahahah it s true!

I'll help you with this one:

I have to correct myself. Milka is Swiss, but not really popular. Everyone knows it, but other brands are more representative..
TheNellyWorld milka is german. produced in Lörrach, then bought by Kraft Food.
@@exador1337 Milka was created by Suchard in Switzerland in Neuchâtel and was at first a Swiss chocolate but then Germans bought it :)

sorry I know I'm almost a year late but my mum is Swiss and we have a recipe book that has the Leckerli thing in it but its called Hausleckerli. It's in German but ill try my best to translate.
350g flour
50g chopped orange and lemon peel
a large pinch of cloves powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
250g honey
125g sugar
100g chopped hazel nuts
It needs to be rolled out to about 1cm thick and cooked for 5-10 minuted at 200 degrees celcius
for the topping;
100g icing sugar
1 tbs lemon juice
and some water if needed (it should be a runny consistency)
I hope this helped and would love to see you try it out

Love how you pronounce all the names! It's never occurred to us what these brands would sound like in English :-)

It's so funny to watch this video, when you're swiss.. :D Your pronounce is SO funny.. :DD The branche call we "Brüggeli" and the first chocolate you tried is pronounced like 'callier' and not 'gailer', the Leckerlis are better with some warm chochlate.. :D I would like to correct you., but this video is just over a year ago. xD
