My cousin here in America had a Finnish Au Pair that craved the salty liquorice candy from home. She had some sent and I thought it was not bad, Strong anise flavor and quite salty. A bit like chewing a hockey puck I'd imagine though.

Salmiakki really nothing to do with Liquorice.
    Liquorice comes from a plant.
Salmiakki is a compound - Ammonium chloride.

_Red_ licorice... and _strawberry taste_...? Newer seen anything like that. Probably licorice only by name then, or heavily mixed with something else. Is it in the USA?
The licorice extract itself, i.e. directly from the root of the plant, is black-brown-green(-ish) and has a distinct characteristic flavour. It is also used in cooking sometimes.

I'm honestly almost surprised you didn't get any of Fazer's basic milk chocolate, since that's pretty popular here too (but yeah Fazer is like one of the biggest companies that make sweets around here). Fazer's milk chocolate is often referred to as "Fazerin sininen" which just means Fazer's blue, due to the blue wrapper.
