As a wheelchair user myself, I love the accessibility representation with the slide out ramp and girl in a wheelchair. Might have to pick this set up myself
It’s good for a first draft but I suggest to re add the 1x2 black brick with the trans orange 1x2 plate to make it feel and look better and match the rest of the tram
Thanks! Are you talking about the bottom right of the doorframe? I tried to put those back, but the wheel of the motor was in the way. Definitely looking to refine that area, though.
Great addition and a fine first draft. The only disadvantage is that a (modern) Streetcar is usually an open platform vehicle. Adding the power box inside makes it just.. weird looking. I do get that there is no other mean. But that is why perhaps the old 9v system would fit this Streetcar the best.
Totally agree. I wish I had a 9V system, but they’re pretty expensive to come by. The goal here was to present the simplest, most widely accessible way to get this streetcar moving.
Fantastic video thanks -- subscribed! This model is really getting me back into lego "trains"! Id really like to follow your fine instructions but see if I could do it on the middle car to sort of turn that into the power car... absolutely brilliant stuff and the subway shelf is looking phenomenal. Wonder if one day therell be a fully fledged subway station entrance on the same side as the buildings!!! Thanks again
Nice review and motorized design. From my side, I've decided to motorize the middle wagon instead. Since I still use the old 9V rails and had a spare motor, it was a good option to avoid any battery box . I had to sacrifice both double doors but I've added 1 additional window on each side. I've also tiled the roof of the tram, it look very nice.
1:23 They got a low floor design in spirit haha. It would be cool to make it properly articulated instead of just a series of separate cars, but that is complicated to pull off.
@@keltondavisLEGO Bevins Bricks has a website selling powered up and power function motor adaptors that work on powered rails...no batteries! I'm going to copper rail my tracks and do this. ua-cam.com/video/11g4bWoTAYE/v-deo.html
Nice video! I saw this in store today and knew I had to buy it soon but definitely motorise it. I have the old system so I need to integrate the IR receiver as well. My plan is to let it stick out of the ceiling. In another video I saw someone making a new wagon for the electric parts and I'll see what fits my limited track space better. But definitely nice to know it's possible thanks to your video! :D
This is a great motorization and similar to what I would have done. Maybe there is a possibility to use a smaller non-train motor to get it even more compact, but that would probably need more modifications.
That’d be interesting to explore! The advantages of this one are that it’s easy enough for anyone to do it and requires very few extra pieces. But I’m sure there are more complicated ways that yield a more streamlined result.
couldn't agree more with the comments on the lacking interior, even the afformentioned tour bus has more seats, and it's still wheelchair/stroller accesible
I'm not that into modding things but this is def one that I will use. I have old ones where the wireless reciever is separate and maybe could replace the chair but I might just use this cause it's easier.
Yes! If you want to use your existing equipment, I do think the IR receiver should fit where the turquoise chair sits in this version, as you said. Have fun!
another way you could motorise it is if you made ti into a deisel sort of light rail, by adding a power car somewhere and housing the electronics in there, like the austin or trenton light rails.
It's something I thought about, but I wanted to make this as easy and light on extra parts as possible. I'd love to see people's designs for separate motor wagons, though!
@@keltondavisLEGO I run one on a train right now and coupled with software you can do an awesome programming excercise so trains, start stop pause reverse etc, which would be awesome with the tram set
Tnak you for the Review and the really clever motorizing Upgrade 👍 I like the Design of this Train (Tram) and maybe I can also use the Design for my Brick-build Monorail 🤗 Greetings from Switzerland Buttermaker
It works fairly well but that battery pack is pretty ugly. I would replace it with the old system that provides power through the rails, would especially make sense for a subway since that's (sort of) how the real ones work.
I will extend it with a seperate engine car like we have here in Switzerland Trains from STADLER RAIL done that many years. GTW called. I think thats a best solution for me to not must change the inside for passengers rooms and fill with the battery box. Also after one end car follows the engine car with 2 axles Standard Motor, then follow the Middle Wagon and the second end car. Gives a 4 part train, sure need few pieces in red buy that the design is same like the 3 part train has. But I think thats a cool train. I need full power and enough grip and 2 axles driven cause I have upgoing tracks 2 Plates per 1 railpiece and that almost 6 rounds length, each 24 Railpieces, and 6x 16 Bricks highness the train needs to climb up from lowest station to the main mountain station. So that needs a bit power to come up there, 1 Axles driven is I think to less grip for me then with the weight from the train. Basically were then even possible to take the middle wagen of an additional set and make it a 5 part train, while the additional set is only 3 parts, 2 end cars and in the middle the seperate engine car. I am exited to receive my train, cause I like the design I ordered 2 sets of it hehe. So I will see what combination in the end it will be....
Great ideas! I thought about creating my own separate engine car, but my ultimate goal was to present a motorization method that required very few additional pieces. Your idea sounds great! 👍
As soon as Lego delivers it I plan on doing the same, starting to think the Lego "Standard" delivery is being deliberately slowed so they get you to pay for their "Express" delivery. 5 years back standard delivery took 3/4 days, now its 7/10 days, with express delivery now being the "standard" delivery of a few years back. Cheers for the tutorial and for the shelf track idea, loved the harry potter buildings which I always disliked because I usually do not like open backed half a building sets, but here you took real advantage of that "half a building open backed nastiness" and put it to stunning effect...but what do I do now? I have built my life around despising open backed nastiness, I can write paragraphs of hatred for half a building fake dolls house awfulness at the drop of a hat, do I just throw away years of justified hate because ive witnessed one great display? My entire outlook on Lego life has been shattered, I am now in utter disarray. Have fun building!

One of my favorite elements of this set!
amazing love how it tuned out ,remind me much of the old airport metro
I agree! This definitely has a nice, simple retro feel to it.
That is SO COOL. I will definitely do this to mine when I get it for Christmas, hopefully
Thank you! What a perfect Christmas gift.

Big thumbs up. My son (almost 7) and I are just starting out with trains and a good instruction on how to motorize this set will come in very handy!
That’s great! It’s just one of many solid methods. Glad you found it useful!
INCREDIBLE video!!
Maybe the tram can use the 9V motor so it doesn't have the battery box.
Aesthetically, that would be the best option, since it eliminates the eyesore of the big battery hub. Unfortunately I don’t have any 9V equipment 😔

Maybe ad an additional car to use as motor-car. More bricks, but you can build very stable
Ultimately, that seems like the best option, but this works well for people with limited bricks.

It’s not a set I have personal experience with, but by the pictures, it looks like it would have a hard time handling curves.

Thanks! I love solving the puzzle of motorizing trains. 🚂
You can put the motor in the middle because that's power goes if you have overhead lines and do the whole car red
I think I’ll eventually end up building a separate wagon to house the electronics. 👍

Aesthetically, I agree with you. But these are soooo smooth on any curve you throw at it, so they get a good score for function.
