    Herm, I love this visual review and comparison. I saw the Gentleman 80 recently in the duty free at Paris CDG airport, but didn't try it on. Today I popped into a local jeweller and tried this green model on. This evening I have watched a technical review and several good, thorough assessments of the watch. Yours though, has been my absolute favourite and the one that reminded me I am buying a thing of beauty that happens to keep amazing time. Thank you!

    The Tissot Gentleman - one hell of a watch for the money - still would be at twice the price - I have mine on a Hirsch leather strap and it looks so refined - a nice quick comparison video - good to see my watch next to a Roly

    I got my Tissot Gentleman silicium from Tissot AD in Canary Islands for €530. Black dial, black leather strap. A very beautiful watch for a very reasonable price. The indices/dial is just stunning. The only thing I would change is the font of the Tissot brand name on the dial, I think it would be much nicer in the old school joined slanted Tissot font with the sweeping 'T'.

    Both such beautiful watches. I own the Tissot seastar 1000 powermatic 80 Sunburst blue dial
    I do love it enjoy it I get compliments all the time
    But There obviously is a incredibly tremendous difference in quality when comparing to the Rolex I don’t love the braclet on the Tissot gentleman as much as i do on the prx or sea star but still very beautiful especially in the green dial. In my opinion. Possibly buying one soon to add to the collection

    I wear a Rolex Submariner no date as a daily... I recently bought a Tissot Seastar pro 2000 which is a tremendously incredible ISO certified dive watch. It has looks to kill and performance to rival watches at 4 and 6 times its price tag.... I have had far more compliments in the first week of wearing the Tissot than I ever had in 5 years daily wearing of my Rolex Submariner

    Servicing is $50 , they do take apart your watch and clean it and check for water damage and oil it. They also have the ability to regulate it with a laser that they have on site. They will replace the whole mechanism if there's any damage but otherwise servicing does not mean replacing the whole mechanism. By the way it's a great deal to get one of these Tissot and watches because the servicing is so cheap and easy

    This may sound crazy, but I think the Tissot aesthetically just looks better obviously the Rolex has a better movement, but the Powermatic 80 actually is a pretty good movement and can be rebuilt. For the price you can’t go wrong with the Tissot!

  • @mikemartin8495
    @mikemartin8495 Рік тому +5

    Horrible video as far as comparison. Anyways, it’s Tissot fit the win hands down when comparing price. The Rolex is waaaaay overvalued fir what you get. And Tissot is (as always) properly priced for what you get: Up to 80 hours power reserve , (more than a Rolex) way cheaper price. When you compare movement, just look at what you’re getting for the price. ETA is not anything special but hence the reason for the affordable price. Hublot uses ETA movement. Would you rather pay 15-20 grand for the same movement? The choice is obvious unless you have money to burn and don’t care about cost. Tissot has been around longer than Rolex and have a great reputation. Very underrated watch company that makes great products.

    While I don't argue against that Rolex is higher quality than Tissot, the insane price of the Rolex cannot be justified. Of course you pay the main part of the price for the brand and status. What would the Rolex cost if you did not pay for the brand? Twice as much? Or more?

    I was reading some peoples thoughts and feelings about the differences in quality for price point and that Rolex is at least a (little) overpriced. Yea, I completely agree. I understand the whole Exclusivity thing but (come on). Really I’m pretty well versed in mechanics and I would be very surprised if the Rolex cost even twice as much to make. Well, Barring any obvious special material differences. (Like a solid gold band) or something. So? At what point are you paying SOLELY for the name? I can understand the idea of wanting to keep it prestigious and exclusive but really? Rolex can’t make a nice base model starting at say, 3,500? Because that still limits the “field” of buyers pretty damn steeply. How many more people would that (really) put into play? Double (maybe?) but also customers that would be happy to buy one at that price. (The other models would still hold their exclusivity!) Of course and I’m not a marketing major but I can’t see people thinking “less” of the brand for it? Idk, I’ve been mulling this over since I decided to buy the Gentleman 80 this week and saw some comparison videos. It does strike me as being a bit Greedy on Rolexes part, or I guess a better word is it feels “miserly” 😂 of them!!! Why not let a few more collectors (or people who appreciate the design) have some fun at a younger age? I’m 38, all my friends and I are pretty damn well off and seriously not a one of us owns a Rolex or even seriously wants to! It seems more of a pretentious “old man”watch to us. I feel like that’s a shame, Being Swiss myself and and a fan of old world Swiss watchmaking. I think at least (some) accessibility for guys at an age and socioeconomic level that’s commiserate with (some) luxury items, is a market that’s silly to miss out on. (Just saying) appealing to the future of people who can afford one later (after the kids are out of college and such) might not be a bad idea either. There’s a lot of appeal to New Superoceans and Seamasters. Less so for a Date-Just or Oyster perpetual. Myself? Im buying the Gentleman 80. I can’t find anything I like more in longines or even Tudor, Mido, Rado, Hamilton, Oris….Simply none were as nice. None had the Masculinity or refinement that the Gentleman seems to shine with. Breitling and Omega are out of range for me at the moment so….( I had a $3,000 budget,) So I bought the Gentleman 80, then used the extra money and bought the T-Complication Squellette (also Tissot). I couldn’t be happier. They are absolutely beautiful and perfect (for me) anyway. Maybe in 5 years I’ll pick up my Seamaster. Rolex? Not as much on the Radar really.
    * I say none of this to disparage Rolex. Just it’s aforementioned choices on some economic details. All in all I’m very happy with my new watches and I’m glad it worked out the way it did!

    • @user-oz3qo7hh2w
      @user-oz3qo7hh2w 4 місяці тому +1

      You can get a nice basic Rolex for say $3,500. They're called Tudor. Great watches. Rolex dealers also sell Tudors. Rolex has a waiting list. Can get preferential treatment buying a Tudor at a Rolex dealer to skip the waiting list to then buy a Rolex. Its a bit nuts. It's like Honda car dealers selling Mazdas that are also great cars and putting Hondas on a waiting list that you can skip if you buy a Mazda first to get a Honda later. On top of that you can't sell your Rolex within a period of time so the market cannot get a supply of near new models. Have a look on Wikipedia about Veblen good (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veblen_good). Only brands like Rolex and Rolls Royce can pull it off selling goods to moviestars and rockstars, basically.

      @@user-oz3qo7hh2w I know what you mean really, funny enough I get the idea! Lol (It really is extraordinarily silly) in the end…it’s a F-ing watch. Much as I adore all manner of little engines and clocks, (especially the few dozen intricate little motors powering the tiny clocks I strap to my wrist! (I adore them because they’re shiny and say I’m rich!) Yea… ahem… I mean, I like to be on time) 🙄.
      (No, I mean, I’m kidding but ugh… It drives me crazy that Rolex is like that. It makes me not want one! If that’s the attitude of the company? Why would I support them? It’s also unreal to me that Rolex should have any say in what someone does with their property after the sale?! I mean just coming from an avid collector and (sort of) enthusiast, I guess (yes) I’m glad that it’s a thing, for the sake of itself. (Or) that there’s a company out there that acts like a neurotic, OCD perfectionist, (an anal retentive) human! (That said, I really enjoy the hobby.). Thank God it’s only a few companies! (Though, I could see the upside of taking yourself comically seriously too.). I probably will buy one one day. (If I’m rich I’ll just keep modding it to be annoying.). lol. Except welding things in place… 😂 Really though, I truly enjoy it all. Maybe not as much as I will in my retirement years) but still, i really enjoy hunting and collecting all different kinds of watches. I’m the type that enjoys the relationshipy part of it too, winding it up and cleaning it, interacting with it and such. (I’m sure someday I’ll care) until then I have private schools and colleges to pay to keep my daughter off the pole. (Longines or Ball is gonna have to cut it.) Maybe a top end Tissot? Lol (a timex) it’s gonna have to just -all be the same- a minute. (Worst case scenario I’ll commit a cardinal sin and grease the skids to hell buying a $500 Rolex in NYC… I’ll just have to pretend.
      (Anywho, thanks for the thoughts man 👍. Much appreciated.). I’m sure one day it’ll be like (the difference between now and when I was a youngster). Only now to then! I’m sure I’ll stroll in and pick it up like the $1000 Tissot I couldn’t afford when I was a teenager…. (I hope). That day I’ll enjoy it like the stress free fun thing it’s supposed to be. I’m not looking forward to it but I know it will happen passively. Getting excited about it means I’m excited about being old, so don’t be excited… (it’s a cool thing for later when i don’t have many cool things to look forward to. (I won’t covet or chase one.) Completely organically (or as close as it gets) I will make the sound decision to purchase a superlative chronometer. Because I’ll be old, I’ll need a lot of superlative things around… lol 😂. Meh, honestly idk, when it’s right…. Lol
      (Guy to guy, you know It’s just as likely I die without one. 😂 )
      Lol (this was fun). Have a good one man. 👍 (Oh, I’ve seen them but Tudor isn’t really my thing. I guess well they kind of look like more bland, less shiny Rolexes (honestly if I was going to do that I would be tempted to buy a homage (I forget the name but that’s all this one company does. Make ultra high quality homages. Like 6-700 across the board. (You’d know them if I said it) but that’s an almost perfect oyster perpetual with a different name, but you also save 2-3 grand. Tudor are just homages anyway (actually Rolex is a fancy San Martin catalog if you think about it that way… when all is said and done I do want a shiny new Rolex like any other sane person (I just wish it didn’t cost as much as a motorcycle! (Anyway, have a great day man. 👍)

    Little to no difference, especially for the price. I had a Date Just before the Gentleman and being honest i see very little difference in the watch itself. The biggest difference is in the bracelet. Put them both on a quality strap and you will barely notice the difference.

    Nowadays wearing a Rolex is only a way to tell others “please, be aware that my finance is quite solid”….and most of times is the truth (when the watch is not fake). In some sense is a well visible certification about your financial capabilities in front of the people around you.
    And there is nothing wrong with this.
    There many other watches as good as or better than a Rolex that cost the half….but none out there know these watches so you can’t get your social certification.

    The Milgauss is overpriced like many Rolexes, the quality is undisputed, but if I want a quality watch, i go to other brands. The Tissot, on the other hand doesn't even cost that much for what it offers, similar calibers on a Breitling, to name one, you pay up to five times as much.

    Se ve que los que opinan no conocen ni saben nada de relojeria. El Tissot da la hora y es bueno, pero ni comparacion con la calidad del Rolex y dejando de lado su precio. La maquina del Rolex es de una calidad muchisimo mayor. El otro, funciona bien

    People that said they prefer the tissot is because they can't afford to buy a rolex, if this same people could afford buying the rolex they would be saying they prefer the rolex. I can't afford a rolex but objectively the rolex is the superior watch in terms of finishing and quality. If someone would be giving away a tissot and a rolex for free and you have to choose one everyone would choose the rolex because it have more valuable and more quality.
    I'm not here trying to denigrate tissot I own four tissot in total and are excellent watches.
    My whole point is that people that said they prefer something they can afford over something they can't afford, they think they sound secure when in reality they sound insecure asf.
    Are both of this watches almost the same thing considering the price difference? Of course.
    Is better go for a tissot and buying a car instead of buying only a rolex? Obviously yes.
    Those are some examples of why is better go for the tissot instead of an rolex but in the end of the day the superior watch is the rolex and if you thinks otherwise you're just showing how insecure you're.

      My video was not intended to compare the Milgauss and the Tissot in any detail, as it is clear that the Tissot would lose out to the Rolex in every aspect.
      Whether you can afford a Rolex or not shouldn't really matter.
      I completely agree with you that if I were to offer both my Rolex and my Tissot for free, where you could only choose one watch, the Rolex would almost always be chosen.
      I think it is time for me to make a new video because it has been a while.

  • @mikemartin8495
    @mikemartin8495 2 місяці тому

    Of course you can compare the two. Rolex is overvalued by 9000 usd and the Tissot is properly priced at 600-800 usd. Aside from the polished and more durable Rolex movement, the watches are almost similar. Now, dies that polish and more durability command an 8k premium over the Tissot? If you said yes, you need to get your head examined for tumors. With Rolex, you’re primarily paying for the name. Same as buying a 5k coach bag. Only sheep buy high end luxury watches.
