    As a 17 year old I'm definitely buy Quartz as the price makes it really easy to pick, the Quartz watch looks great although I prefer the automatic one. I think I'm going with a Quartz, then when I'm a bit older ill definitely buy the automatic version

    I bought the quartz version (in blue) just today. Looked at the PRX, but didn't like the chunky case. I was back and forth between the quartz Gentleman and the automatic (which really does look much better (more expensive) in person than it does in this video), but in the end it was just too thick for my taste, so I went with the thinner model. It looks great on a brown leather strap. Given that it's half the cost, I may go back and get a second one in silver, on a ss bracelet, to wear with my "grown-up" suit.
    Nice thing about living in NYC is that there's a Tissot store, where you can examine every model up close and personal.

      @jpdemer5 Many say that the Gentleman looks more elegant than the PRX. I don't mind the PRX's "chunky" case. I like this "tonneau" form even better. You can get the Gentleman in Titanium if you like. For my taste the PRX line is the better deal. I really like (the expensive) PRX Automatic Chronograph (in white)! 😍

    Good one for Tissot. Was looking for a nice quartz but knowing they downgrade the quartz that much is a no go. Would not have mind to pay extra for the auto finish. Like they don’t even want to sell the quartz models, buy auto instead I guess is their thinking.

    I think the difference is also in the dial. When I compared the blue versions two years ago not only had the quartz version a lighter shade of blue but the dial material looked different (a bit cheaper to make probably). Not sure if that's the case with more recent models. In person you could definitely tell the difference because the dial on the automatic had slightly more "depth".

    Not bad watches, maybe a bit boring in terms of design and finishing, but what are your options around this price? Seiko are now more expensive with the SARX045, but I much prefer it. I also like the Hamilton automatics, but the Khaki King is pretty simple finishing wise, but IMO has more characterful design!

    The brand "Tissot" is from the French speaking part of Switzerland (Le Locle) therefore you don't pronounce the final "t" of Tissot! 😇

  • @paulc9588
    @paulc9588 2 роки тому +5

    Very useful video. Here is the dilemma. The automatic version is a nicer piece but I would think twice about spending £675 on a Tissot, automatic on not. Even with the ~15% discount that UK ADs tend to give (the independent jewellers anyway) that is still close to £600. Although the quality is clearly there it is still quite a 'vanilla' (i.e. pleasing enough but quite bland) design, to my eyes anyway. For £335 (under £300 with discount) though the quartz is a steal. Vanilla or not, everything you really need is there for a modest outlay which makes for an excellent buy.
    Rather than the Gentleman automatic I would be looking at spending slightly more on a more unusual/interesting brand like Certina or Junghans or a few hundred more on an Oris or Longines. Even Rado is a possibility as they start at or can often be bought for well under £1,000. Nothing wrong with Tissot they are a solid brand but to me there more desirable options out there to the automatic for not a lot more money. Maybe it depends on how many Tissots you already have! Hope this makes sense.

    • @marcelwatchenthusiast5438
      @marcelwatchenthusiast5438  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Paul! Nice to see you again :) I think that both of these watches deserve some respect because they are really good value for money. Here in Poland we can buy Tissot in AD with 20% discount and sometimes even more (black Friday). The best part of owning one of these models is that you cant go wrong with whichever you choose.

    • @paulc9588
      @paulc9588 2 роки тому +2

      @@marcelwatchenthusiast5438 I think it depends on where you are re. your collection. Desirability versus cost is a personal thing. If you are looking for your first automatic or just plan on owning one automatic then the Gentleman is well-priced and a sound choice. As I already own 2 Tissot automatics and 3 quartz pieces I am not really in the market for another one unless something really special. The quartz is a bargain though, even someone with Tissot fatigue would be tempted.

    • @MusikPiratCH
      @MusikPiratCH 2 роки тому +1

      @@paulc9588 Well, unfortunately for Tissot Nicolas G. Hayek (founder of The Swatch Group) made (at least in my view) a big mistake with the brand Tissot. Before the quartz crisis Tissot (here in Switzerland) was a well known brand along side with Omega (see SSIH). There are Tissot watches out that can compete with any other brand you name (see The Urban Gentry who owns a Tissot watch from the 1950s/60s)!
      However I see your point when you own 2 automatics and 3 quartz pieces if you're not specificly fixed on Tissot watches only! 🤔
      I'd rather tend to the PRX Powermatic 80 however the Gentleman has silicon while the PRX only offers nivachron. ☹

    • @paulc9588
      @paulc9588 2 роки тому

      @@MusikPiratCH Depends how you look at it re. Tissot being positioned as an entry-level brand despite its illustrious history. Tissot plays an important role within Swatch Group in terms of introducing buyers to Swiss watches at an affordable price point with the intention/hope that they will then become hooked and move on to buying more expensive Longines, Omega etc.
      Not good news for the status of the Tissot brand maybe but there is some logic in the tiered brand structure and someone has to be the first rung on the ladder. It worked with me, my first Swiss watch was a Tissot PR50 quartz (1996, still working!) and I have ended up as a customer for life. There will be many thousands of people just like me who would never have got into Swiss watches had it not been for that first Tissot.

      @@paulc9588 Well, The Swatch Group has a lot of brands that could serve as an entry-level brand (even Glashütte Original)! 😇
      I still don't understand Nicolas G. Hayek's brand ranking. There is no logic at all in it!
      Longines, Omega and Tissot have such a rich history that would qualify all of them in the highest segment!
      I know what you mean. However Certina, Hamilton or even one of those Glashütte brands could have served for this purpose! 🤔
