All these truck companies are currently getting the beat-down they deserve. These vehicles went from being the working man's tools to something completely un-affordable for the average man/family. And then they doubled down! The last year saw massive price gouging markups and fools fighting to be next in line to get bent over. But now, they've used up their allotment of fools and all that remains is huge inventories and no buyers. So they'll slash prices....and there will still be no buyers. In 1988, a fully loaded Ford Lariat F-150 4x4 was around 10K. In today's dollars, that equates to around 25.6K, and yet in many cases they're trying to get north of 100K for these trucks. And yes, I know they're more "technical" these days, and have more safety features bla bla bla, but there is nothing to justify a 70K increase in price except pure corporate and stockholder greed. But really, how many of you can afford a 100K truck? 90? Even 60? I know I can't.... and those of us who can't, comprise the majority of buyers. It's time to press the reset button on just about everything affecting our lives and that's exactly what's happening right now.

@@JO3BID3N-is-a-P3D0 -- I drive a rusty but trusty 98 Suburban. I'd take it anywhere and it would go. Two weeks ago, I was lucky enough to find another (1999) 100% rust free one with brand new tires, new A/C, new brakes, and a ton of other stuff. They gave me a 1,5" thick file full of receipts from day one, showing everything they did over the years and when. It was an Oregon truck, so no salt ever. It's absolutely immaculate and I traveled a long way to get it. I paid $1,500 for it because the guy ran it out of oil and was sick about it. But he decided to sell it, and I was first to see it. So yes, I'll have to stuff a new motor in it, and I want to take out the leather seats because leather looks like grandma's ass after the first year, but all in I'll have at most 6K into this amazing 4x4 and it will probably be the last truck I'll need at my age. I think what you'll see soon (already starting really) is that used, beat up, and what we used to call junk is going to start selling for insanely high prices because of supply and demand. I mean, if you need a truck and can't afford the extortion prices, what else can you buy ??

GMC was rooted in Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and Reliance Truck. The GMC brand was introduced to the public in January 1912 at the New York Auto Show. Grabowski brothers brought the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company from Detroit to Pontiac Michigan in 1904. Grabowski left Rapid in 1907.

This video contains some interesting history but is somewhat misleading. Your cursory acknowledgement that since around 1960 all GMC's are merely rebadged Chevys is too little too late (i.e. the Sprint, which was always an El Camino with a different grill). You portray GMC as though it's an independent company, making decisions such as "exiting the commercial and large-duty truck market..." These are GM corporate decisions and part of the reason it has declined from the No. 1 automaker in the world to No. 4 or 5, depending on the month. Its divisions are completely interchangeable. That's why Buick is dying (all SUV's for some reason, most of which are shared platforms with Chevy and GMC), and Pontiac, Olds, etc., are gone. GMC exists as a brand to provide a second channel (after Chevrolet) for GM to sell pickups and SUV's. There is no "GMC" company - it's a brand, like Kellogg's has Corn Flakes and Frosted Flakes.

    • @jamescooley5744

GMC was aimed at large fleet/commercial buyers, Chevy was more aimed at smaller operators. By the 50s the main difference between Chevy and GMC - both small and large trucks - was trim and some engine variations. The big GMC General of the 70s had a Chevy version called the Bison. When GM sold off its large truck business to Volvo in the 80s, the remaining GMC light truck line became what it is today - a Chevy with more bling, that keeps the Buick dealers from going out of business.

I am so sad that the truck division has become so “soccer-mom-ified”, as I say. What I mean is that, back in the day, pickups and small SUVs were for dads and boyfriends, station wagons and minivans were for moms and girlfriends. So when they (truck companies) take the luxurious inside of a minivan and take a rugged design of a truck on the outside, in an attempt to grab everyone, they pushed away everyone.

It was discolored,, patched, had a mis-matched bed in a different shade of green, and was just rough around the edges all around. But by damn, it never failed to fire right up! Since I was too young to drive, it mostly saw use as a farm truck hauling limbs and dirt around home. In the winter, it pulled an old car hood as a sled. I wish I could track that old truck down. When I was 12, I agreed to let my dad trade it for a '66 Econoline van.

We all have that one car we are convinced are bought by people who can't drive. For me it's the GMC Sierra.
Also I truely don't understand what's the point of GMC. Everything it could potentially offer can just be thrown under the Chevrolet brand.
Pontiac and Buick make more sense to me in terms of what they are trying and most of the time failed to offer.
Edit: I guess now they have the Hummer. But that will be such a low production vehicle that most people won't associate with GMC since the Hummer name is still remembered and was under its own brand.

A lot of GMC buyers want the upscale features but don't want the common man's Chevrolet name on their vehicle. It's about marketing and image and it works. It's the Buick of trucks and actually makes money for GM.
