  • The newest and one of the most powerful mid drive ebike motors on the market. This mid-drive ebike conversion kit is the cyc x1 pro gen 3 and x1 stealth gen 3. This are comparable to the Bafang bbshd mid drive motor.
    Let’s evaluate them and see if they are worth the upgrade.

    Really interested to see how much they've improved the noise issue. The cyc power numbers are unrivaled but almost unnesecarily big at this point. I don't see many use cases for 5000w, but if I could get 3000w out of the box with the same noise as a BBSHD and without the need for external components that'd actually be huge. The other upgrades are nice as well, especially the tuning of the torque sensor is a big step forward. I'm excited to see it in action!

      How a company has not pushed a proper strong go kart chain drive on bicycles/ebikes is a minus. Imagine simply going up the steepest hills with leg power alone often, or every time you get on your bike The Who would Not realize that is an issue? Now imagine multiplying that by several times?😟
      The Canadian company that is Biktrix solved this is issue albeit for not having attached the pedal assist just yet to their custom made 300NM ebike & drive train. They have the drive train that can handle with ease all that power as they utilize the go kart chain/drive system.

    lol, didn't expect to see me as an example. 6:06 . Tbh I did like the noise, especially with shifting pitch changes. Also, it was extra noisy due to the high gear ratio and compensating with FW.
    Without FW it would've hit 30kmh tops.

    "The throttle has a kick from the start" The lack of torque is a chronic problem, but the source is not with ebikes, it's batteries. Every brand and type.
    Batteries are limited in how quickly they can discharge energy, and when you draw a large current quickly, they take damage (some batteries are better at this than others). I believe Tesla's clever work around the problem with batteries and torque was to use super capacitors. Capacitors have an ability to store and discharge large amounts at a rate the motor asks for. and will be recharged by the battery at cruising speed for the next acceleration boost.
    I hope ebike motor makers like this one are adding some fat capacitor's for torque boosts and not sacrificing the longevity of people's batteries.

    Many hate the way this motor sounds but compared to many others it's within the same sound range. Compared to the BBSHD by Bafang It is noticeably louder. After having both the X1 pro and the stealth and bbshd, I can say that the CYC is way more superior regardless of sound. Also when it comes to customer service CYC blows practically any other company away that I've ever even dealt with. Just my thoughts.

  • @lukewalker1051
    @lukewalker1051 2 роки тому +4

    Excellent topical content performance ebikers care about. Thank you for that.
    My biggest discriminator is noise with any of the CYC motors. As mentioned, high frequency, shrill almost screach of the motor. Inexcusable. My Bafang BBSHD I run at 1700 watts is utterly silent at full power. Why this matters is because riding my ebike around other non ebikes on shared trails makes my bike transparent. Many don't know I am even running a motor. I would be a potential buyer of CYC but why would I do that when I can get 1700 watts with a cheaper and bulletproof BBSHD with cheap replacement parts that I can't hear.
    I hope CYC designs a true 'stealth' motor like the BBSHD. The second chain is another drawback but I could overcome this external secondary drive, but not the noise.

    • @FlyingScot911
      @FlyingScot911 2 роки тому +10

      Nobody mentions, what is to me, the most important feature of the CYC motors. The torque sensor. The reason I purchased my CYC X1 Stealth about 3,000 miles ago is because it has a torque sensor. With their app you can dial it in so you get a very smooth pedaling experience. As someone who has over 200,000 miles of cycling experience over my lifetime it was more about the boost in wattage at the pedal in pedal assist but it is only natural if you have a good torque sensor at the crank. As I like to say, with a CYC mid-drive it is just like riding a bike but with stronger legs. I typically ride in pedal assist level 1 at an average of 35kph. There are 9 levels of pedal assist in both street mode and race mode. My top speed in race mode with a bit of a tailwind was 46mph. On rural roads I can comfortably do 30mph pulling my trailer. Hills? Eats them for breakfast. I upgraded my drive train with a Box Components Box 2 Prime 9 eWide 1 x 9 rear cassette built for ebikes. My bike will climb a wall. As far as the noise is concerned traffic noise is louder. Granted in the forest it would be nice to have silence but I don't notice the noise anymore. 90+% of my riding is commuting, shopping, errands, etc. where the noise is irrelevant. One nice thing about the noise however is when in town or on paths with foot and bike traffic people hear me coming. My 2 cents.

      Put your bbs to same rotation speed (which stock contr can't do and you'll hear something else) you don't understand that they can't be silent at 10000 rpm and don't understand concept of electrical power so your senseless desires come from it.

    I've only had trouble with my kit, so many part failures and after this last one where my controller shot out fire, I'm just kinda done with CYC. I think the core of the issue is that it just gets way too hot, and in colder yet humd climates this causes condensation inside the motor and controller, and the droplets that form just reaks havoc.

    Great video. I'm on the fence about a $3k motor upgrade to increase speed torque of my super 73rx. After seeing this my first reaction is that this x1 Pro mid drive is the way to go assuming they fixed the noise issue. It sounded terrible.

    I've decided to go with Lightning Rods Small Block (5kW) motor and BAC2000 tweaked by High Voltage, in combination with Eggrider display. I will not have a torque assist and to be honest i dont really need it because ill be riding my overpowered ebike mostly on the public roads. As for the CYC Pro gen 3 - I'll wait and see. If that noise is taken care of, then ill get one for a 2nd powered ebike.

You really can't compressor the two due to the tuning capabilities of the cyc it the box and the torque sensing capabilities. I wouldn't go to a bafang if you gave it to me. Plus the CYC allows you to mount it in many ways. I have my kit mounted behind the seat tube but Infront if the rear wheel. Balance is 50/50 and slayes any trail.

    I’ve never tried a mid drive, so what I have to go on is ease of use, and the power being 250NM on the 5000watt CYC is a lot more than the 160NM of the Bafang HD/Ultra. Also the sleekness of the CYC is a very attractive feature.
    I would like to see a head to head with the Ultra vs. CYC 5000 Gen 3 upgrade. Bafang has not upgraded their motor in forever, so that is not a positive. I want the fastest bike that also has a lot of torque which the CYC seemingly checks off.
    I don’t know about the ease of use, or is it an APP one needs to utilize in order to simply start the bike, or download upgrades so it behaves as it should out the box. If it is getting into video game territory where one needs to purchase, or simply download feature after feature which ought to come again right out the box as they’ve advertise that is an issue that I and many understandably don’t care to overlook. Also the sound being a loud whizzing is Not stealthy by any means, so that is an issue too, but not as bad as needing an App to even use the bike as one envisioned when purchasing it.
