He used to be the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish (pop, folk, blues, soul and rock band - not country). When he went solo, he went country. I LOVE his voice!
One of the top country singers. Early years was lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. Try Wagon Wheel or Let Her Cry. He has about half a dozen Grammies.
As said below, Darius fronted "Hootie and the Blowfish" right out of college, and they blew up on the national scene. There are songs that you have to have heard in passing or in the background, like "Let Her Cry", "Hold My Hand", "Only Wanna Be With You", and "Time". They hung around for around 15 years before going their separate ways, and Darius became a solo artist and started singing country, where's he found a whole new following. But he and the band reunite and play concerts every year, especially in South Carolina, where they're all from. His voice is so unique and easily recognizable.
Darius is a national treasure. I became a fan of his back when he led Hootie and the Blowfish, which was pop'ish. Then he switched to solo and went country and remains a great singer. He is a stand up guy who isn't afraid to tell the truth.
Darius started as a freshman at the University of South Carolina when another freshman in his dorm heard him singing in the shower. The other freshman was Mark Bryan who played guitar. Him and Mark Bryan later started the band Hootie & the Blowfish.
This was the first time I'd heard this as well. Someone is cutting onions somewhere because I am NOT shedding tears. 🥲😉 What a beautiful song!! And that last verse?? Sheesh!! I relate to this song so much, as music was all I had going for me growing up. And I know when the time comes for me to say that last goodbye to my Mom who always has my back, ride or die, no matter what, all I'm gonna be able to do? Sing....😔
Such a smooth, smoky voice and a great lyric. I can relate to the song a lot but was not really a singer (went another untraditional way like you said). Great reaction Britt, you put in words what I felt.
One of the best and most distinctive voices in music. So glad you ground this. I have recommended it to everyone. Saw him do it in person. He said it is the most personal song he has ever done
I love that this channel brings us not just your react but also your voice. It is beautiful. The little things that make our lives better. Please never stop singing to us. It is a true gift.
I absolutely love your honesty as you react. You are so open with your enjoyment and your emotions. Top all that off with how articulate you are and I have to tell you you are the best.
I’m tearing up , you cry girl if it moves you. I have never heard this song of his and I love it . I’ve loved him from back in his Hootie and the Blowfish days
I have two daughters roughly your age. They both excelled academically in high school. One went to college on a full ride scholarship. Her sister could have but had different priorities than college. Both are comfortable in their own skin and are more than a credit to themselves and their families, because they are true to themselves and those who have stood by them their entire lives. I love the message of this song and your reaction to it. I can't imagine that your parents aren't proud of you. You make life a little more fun for the rest of us, Thank you for your reactions and for being yourself!
Darius grew up in South Carolina listening to all kinds of music. He formed a band in the 90s with college buddies which became hugely successful and after they broke up he decided he wanted to tap into his country roots but wasn't sure how the country music community would accept him and if those that knew him as Hootie would like his style of country music. Well, as a fellow Gen X'er who also grew up listening to all kinds of music and can readily alternate listening to rock, pop, country, classical, R&B, Latin, and oldies, I was excited to hear Darius sing country songs for the first time. I love how country music tells stories that are relatable to the common man and as I get older I find myself turning to country music more than the other genres that I still love. I was just hoping that he would be successful and that he'd release songs that would fit into the 90s style of country music and not the latest "Bro Country" fad which has little lasting value. Well, not only did he release great music but his songs are a perfect blend of who he is and what he wants to say. His voice lends itself well to the genre and he surrounds himself with great musicians. My favorite of his songs are It Won't Be Like This For Long, If I Yold You, So I Sang, and Come Back Song.
Did me good too........Mama always supported us kids, we buried her this week at 93 yr. old - and yes her favorite song was, "It is well with my Soul" . How Timely.
Darius writes his truth, and so many other people's, in his songs. He has made me teary-eyed more than once. Being a parent I think you would love, It won't be like this for long. My other favorites are If I told you, Radio, Let her cry and the one he wrote for his Mom. Which I can't think of the name🙄 Great reaction Brit☮️
He has such a gorgeous voice! But you need to check out some of his songs from Hootie and the Blowfish. 'Let Her Cry' is epic. Only Wanna Be With You. Hold My Hand.
Great reaction Britt! Darius has a very good and recognizable voice. He was very popular with Hootie and the Blowfish and now a well-known country soloist. Lots of great songs to explore.
You've got to check out more of Darius!!!! He has a huge catalog of glorious music to react to, whether his solo stuff or him with Hootie and the Blowfish! I've never heard a bad song from Darius' mouth!!! His voice is Incredible!!
Happy Saturday Miss Britt .. 🎼🖤🎼 .. you discovered a true , deep, honest singer. He has many sides to his artistry , and you will read in your comments that he went Country. That is not exactly how it is .. he is Country , he was raised on Country Music , and other genres of course. He is so talented and you will fall for his voice over and over and over. Dive in ...... ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹🖤🖤🎼🖤🖤❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹. Thanks for this beauty of a song.
Yes! I watched an interview he gave and he said he always wanted to be a “country singer”. He was so well recognized as “Hootie”, but his favorite memory was when someone walked up to him in a hotel lobby and said “Hey, aren’t you that country singer Darius Rucker?” He knew then that he was finally recognized as who he was. It was such a wonderful interview
Britt my man watches you over and over so I had to look you up. He is in bad health and you bring him Joy. He is a musician. He loves your opinion and optimism. Much love ❤❤❤
Darius has a very deep and varied catalogue. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy both his pop/rock and country songs. And you are right. His voice is awesome.
As others have said, Darius Rucker used to headline the alternative rock group, Hootie and the Blowfish before returning to the Country music he knew as a child. He is now the first African American member of the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville since the late, legendary, Charlie Pride. He has also paved the way for a new wave of black country artists (although the hidden role of African Americans in the early days of what became Country and Western is another, little told, story) including Mickey Guyton, Kane Brown, Rhian (spelling?) Giddons and the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Seykond Chaynce, the sister/cousin act from Mississippi known as Chapel Hart, Cowboy Troy, and others. There are still fewer African Americans in country than there are white rappers, but it is growing. There are 3 African American members of the Country Music Hall of Fame: DeFord Bailey (1899-1982), a harmonica player that was the opening act of the very first performance of the Grand Ol' Opry, Ray Charles (1930-2004), more famous for his blues music, and Charlie Pride (1934-2020), a superstar in the '70s and '80s.
His album Back to Then (2002) was between Hootie and the Country career. I love the entire album. My favorites are Exodus and This is my World (used in the Shallow Hall movie).
As for collage I NEVER wanted to go to collage while in high school. But after 10 years in the Army I need to learn a trade. So I went to Tech Collage, I was a "C+" student in High School but in Collage I was on Honor roll. I also went back again at age 60 and was Honor student again. I have never cried so much listening to music before. Watching you react you bring out so much to the songs than I ever new.
When Darius sings he fills your soul, he has to have one of the most beautiful voices. You must go back and here his best work imo with Hootie and the Blowfish.
Great singer great songs you always show great reaction too ever video you react too love that about you Britt your always so awesome on your youtube channel too Britt.🌹❤️❤️👍
From what I was told this song was recorded in just one take.....btw I watch alot of reaction vids yours are by far the best....keep on doing what you do
I grew up on a cutting horse farm where my family has a custom saddle company. I built skyscrapers, homes and mega yachts for 30 years. I graduated military college, but I also got my certification in Architectural Drafting and design. I'm now retired and been living on my sailboat for the last 16 years. The degree ? Guess it's nice to have. Lol... Don't live for others unless that's what you love. Capt.Bob, SV ( Sailing Vessel) 27th Chance, Tampa Fl, USA 🇺🇸
years ago I was kinda like the guy in the key and peele skit. i thought he was "Hootie" from hootie and the blowfish. Darius Rucker can absolutely sing and do great in any genre he decides to sing.
As below: if you want to hear his voice when it was young and incredible, listen to Hootie and the Blowfish doing "Let Her Cry". And the coolest thing I've seen him do - a truly great video - is his version of "Wagon Wheel"...it'l lmake you smile and make your day!
You need to check out Darius singing "Not Even the Trees" with Hootie and the Blowfish and his solo song "It Won't Be Like This For Long". Darius is the man
His song "Wagon Wheel" is covered at open-mics all over the country by countless pros and amateurs every week. The chorus is just so dang catchy that even the audiences at these small open-mic venues can't help singing along. When you hear it, you'll be hooked too.
U just touched the foothills of Darius Rucker. Check out LET HER CRY (When he fronted Hootie and the Blowfish). Then His country solo song, IF I TOLD YOU.
Rucker's voice is in my top 5 favorites. You need to pick his LIVE performance (I think it was for Haiti Earthquake) but not totally sure. Anyway, please pick that performance of the song LET HER CRY. It brought me to tears, mostly because of his voice and how he sang it. Then, for a fun, feel good song check out his song, ALRIGHT. You can't help being in a good mood watching him in that video.😊
Hi, Brittney. I have been watching the variety of songs that you review, and I think I have one that you haven't heard as yet. Charlie Pride the first black man of country music. ( I say this because this is what he called himself not to be disrespectful). He started back in 1966 and became one of the most popular and most recorded man in country music history He sold more records and charted more hits than Elvis Presly. I think you will love him. Kiss an Angle good morning would be a great choice to start. He has more than 52 songs to choose from. Love your site.
This is my favorite of darus piece's. His voice is the richest out there. I only wish he had sung it in his concert. Although I repeat this song over and over❤🎉🎉🎉 6:036:08
I gonna say what a lot of people may be afraid to say outright. I assume you weren't expecting country because Darius is black. I am not saying it as an attack just an observation. Many folks are surprised to learn there are black artists in the country music industry. The most famous the legend Charlie Pride. Darius has a lot of great music and is the best-known contemporary country singer. Two other great artists are Jimmie Allen and Willie Jones. You should check out some of their songs too. My favorite Jimmy Allen song is "Down Home." So touching and personally relatable. And I like Willie Jones "Down by the Riverside"
He used to be the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish (pop, folk, blues, soul and rock band - not country). When he went solo, he went country. I LOVE his voice!
One of the best things to happen to country, I love Darius Rucker's Country songs.
One of the top country singers. Early years was lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. Try Wagon Wheel or Let Her Cry. He has about half a dozen Grammies.
Do both songs!

Darius has a very large song book. Check out his song "Wagon wheel" or "It won't be like this long". Glad you have met him.
Darius is a national treasure. I became a fan of his back when he led Hootie and the Blowfish, which was pop'ish. Then he switched to solo and went country and remains a great singer. He is a stand up guy who isn't afraid to tell the truth.
Darius is pure gold.
Oh, I love this man! He is not only talented but also so genuine & humble. Happy to see you discover him.
Not just country singer, AMAZING singer
He has one of the best voices I’ve heard in years. Let Her Cry from when he was with Hootie and the Blowfish is incredible!!!
With Darius you always get a story song.
Listen to him when he was with Hootie and the Blowfish! His voice is beautiful….Let Her Cry is beautiful.
Darius Rucker. Come Back Song. Top 10 song ever to me
Darius is special, Beautiful voice.
For my money Darius is the most versatile and soothing artist out there.
Beautiful message; I agree fully.
I’m a grown man but I cry for this song, too. My kids chose paths that fulfill them…I’m good whenever they’re good.
Darius started as a freshman at the University of South Carolina when another freshman in his dorm heard him singing in the shower. The other freshman was Mark Bryan who played guitar. Him and Mark Bryan later started the band Hootie & the Blowfish.
I love the honesty and depth of your reactions. Added bonus, "It is well with my soul" is my all time favorite hymn. Thanks.
I would listen to Darius sing anything in any genre. His voice makes me all melty! 🫠
Totally agree with your reaction Britt 😊
This was the first time I'd heard this as well. Someone is cutting onions somewhere because I am NOT shedding tears. 🥲😉 What a beautiful song!! And that last verse?? Sheesh!!

LOVE LOVE DARIUS!!!! It Won’t Be This Way for Long and That’s Alright by Me!
Thar was a great song. I have not heard that before and I thought I knew all Darius Rucker songs. Love his music. Much love and prayers ❤️ 🙏
That thing right there is Darius Rucker
Such a smooth, smoky voice and a great lyric. I can relate to the song a lot but was not really a singer (went another untraditional way like you said). Great reaction Britt, you put in words what I felt.

HOOTIE! LISTEN TO LET HER CRY FROM BACK IN THE DAY!
My favorite is Wagon Wheel!!!!! Great voice! Love your reaction! You go ahead and cry, Girl! It's good for the soul!
That one was a new one for me too and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for turning me onto that one. It’s definitely hitting my playlist.
Some songs, some performances are just therapy. Thanks for sharing!
I saw him in concert with Dirks Bentley. Great singer and performer.
I have two daughters roughly your age. They both excelled academically in high school. One went to college on a full ride scholarship. Her sister could have but had different priorities than college. Hootie!!! Love him
I love Darius, doesn’t matter what he’s singing.
Edit, yes, It Is Well With My Soul surely was in the Baptist hymnal when I was growing up.
I grew up pentecostal. It was in our hymns too!😊
He is a great solo artist, he was great in Hootie and the blow fish, his first band.

Have heard his name but never paid attention, thanks for introducing me to him.
He grew up not far from my house. 12 family members in a very small house. His sisters made fun of him listening to country. 😆

Great reaction Britt. You should check out Live from Daryl's house "You lost that loving feeling". Daryl Hall has that Philly Soul.
You need to check out Darius singing "Not Even the Trees" with Hootie and the Blowfish and his solo song "It Won't Be Like This For Long". Darius is the man

Not his song. Bob Dylan’s and Ketch Sector’s song.
Darius covered it. 🤦♂️
Hootie and the blowfish was one of the few bands i liked in the 90s.he much better as a country singer then a rock/pop singer
Yep when Hootie and the Blowfish grows up he gets into country music he is one of my favourite
U just touched the foothills of Darius Rucker. Check out LET HER CRY (When he fronted Hootie and the Blowfish). Then His country solo song, IF I TOLD YOU.
Yes, you have to listen to his version of Wagon Wheel. Peace, Love!!
That man sings smoother than a Bill Clinton apology
😂
Rucker's voice is in my top 5 favorites. You need to pick his LIVE performance (I think it was for Haiti Earthquake) but not totally sure. Up next, "Wagon Wheel."
Definitely need to check out wagon wheel by Darius
Sometimes he sings with Jimmie Allen and both of them sang with Charlie Pride before he passed away.
He started singing country after he left hooty and the blow fish
Your may know him before he started his country career he was the front man for Hootie and the Blowfish 💙
This is my favorite of darus piece's. His voice is the richest out there. I only wish he had sung it in his concert. Although I repeat this song over and over❤🎉🎉🎉 6:03 6:08
Darius is one of my FAV country singers.
Give his song Am I the Only One a listen
I have always liked Darius Rucker, back with Hootie and the Blowfish to his country albums, please check out Wagon Wheel by him
Love (Hootie) check out his song "wagon wheel"
I gonna say what a lot of people may be afraid to say outright. I assume you weren't expecting country because Darius is black. I am not saying it as an attack just an observation.
