I know it's already vegan, but I'm really curiuos about how you make your "yellow dahl" the one that contains red lentils and tumuric. I'm really diggin Indian dishes at the moment, since they help a lot in terms of meal-prepping for a newly started vegan like myself:D - would be really appreciated and also thanks for your great content as always!

I tried to make a paneer substitute out of tofu before. I boiled the tofu in a mixture of almond milk and soy cream. It was great! It gave it that delicious creamy, milky flavour.

Not two-thirds, closer to roughly 40% according to a 2018 RGI survey. However, it greatly differs between states and even cities. Indian cuisine, religion and culture is by no means a monolith and that is reflected in diets across the country.

Drop the spinach in. swirl. Let sit in the water and swirl a few times more. the leaves will float. The sand & dirt will sink, Remove clean leaves. Thanks for your channel. I'm lovin' in!

I like washing greens in a big bowl of water a handful or two at a time. Throw the greens in, agitate them, and let things settle for a moment. This way the dirt and sand easily fall away and sink to the bottom of the bowl. I find it more thorough and less cumbersome than trying to handle a mass of greens in a colander.

I made this recipe Friday night for Saturday, and it was wonderful! So flavorful, I used frozen spinach that I let defrost and used the boiled tofu method that I added to the sauce a few minutes before serving. I skipped on the coconut milk because we liked the flavor as it was, and surprisingly it was pretty creamy even without it. I didn't have any fresh cilantro but am sure that would have made it even tastier. Last week after trying her red lentil curry I thought it would be hard to find a recipe that topped that, and although very different in flavor, this recipe might be even better in my opinion. I hope to try adding mint to this recipe sometime to hopefully mimic one of our local Indian restaurants take. Excellent recipe🏅!!!

One tip about rinsing it: put it in a pot/bowl full of water and wash it this way for the first time- saves a lot of water by removing the initial dirt!
Also, the tofu tip was very interesting! Never thought about doing it to change the texture!
Anyways, have a nice rest of the week!
    Lots o love!
P.S. You always win my heart with the dance parts!

Hi Nisha! I took my 4 kids to pick up mallow, that grows around our house at this time of the year . I swapped 1/2 of the spinach in mallow and they loved it! Thank you so much for a wonderful recipe!

Good grief. I love this recipe so much. Since turning fully vegan 8 weeks ago I have been experimenting with all sorts of ingredients as I am training so need higher protein. I love Indian food and Palak is one of my favourites. I just made this and it is one of the best things I have cooked. I had to add extra coconut milk as I put so much spinach into my Nutribullet so that too was a success. I froze the Tofu over night, drained this morning and then marinaded in coconut milk and curry powder before baking it for a short time. I coupled it with a Besan Flour flatbread. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for your amazing recipes.

I love this recipe so much, i've made it 3 times in the last week. And my wife and two kids (6 and 8) also love it--it's hard to make something Indian that all 4 of us like equally for some reason--too spicy, too gingery, whatever...i go with the boiled tofu option, and i don't use any oil--doesn't need it. Really looking forward to cooking more of your recipes.

looks awesome! here's a little tip if you're weird like me: when you boil the spinach the water gets green because a lot of the antioxidants get into the water so you can save that water to drink or use in soups so you get all the goodness from the spinach

Also soak the spinach to wash it instead of simply rinsing it in the sink. Saves more water that way plus washes better too!

@@daniellevine6131 Gosh, I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice the water issue. I raised a separate comment (frankly, expecting a torrent of abuse) but just saw this thread.
Another sensible thing would be to use the water that soaked the nuts.
Otherwise, although I think tofu is the devil's own poison, the sauce recipe is great and can go with anything else.

I use a grow rack I built in my kitchen to grow microgreens and also med-sized mustard greens (the latter mostly for stirfry but occasionally for/in sarson saag paneer or palak paneer). I always blend some mustard greens into the spinach for dishes like that ... I find it adds some pleasing vibrancy, lightness and brightness, and compliments the mustard oil notes better (if youre making it punjabi style).
The creamed cashews as a thickener and enrichment are a nice touch that I use too ... butter alone can make things seem oily.
