*Quick note:* I am well aware of the extended cut and the extra scenes which showcase some of these interactions (I believe I even mention it in the video). But, just like for the first movie, we will follow the theatrical cut for this series, and then at the very end as a bonus episode we'll dive into all the extended scenes. 👀 I am looking forward to it!

There are three items in Borgin's shop that will be important later in HBP.
    1. The cursed necklace. Hermione saw it again in the 6th book. Draco tried to send the necklace to Dumbledore, but cursed Katie Bell instead.
    2. The Vanishing Cabinet. Harry was hiding inside it, but didn't close the door. It is definitely the Cabinet, because its pair in Hogwarts will be mentioned later in this book. It's gonna be broken, and that's why Draco will have to fix it four years later.
    3. The Hand of Glory. That withered hand that grabbed Harry - Draco will use it to light the way to Death Eaters after letting them inside the school.

A doctorate is not a requisite of publishing a book. (Speaking as someone with a doctorate, who is also a professor). It is odd that you’d only have one professor with a terminal degree in their field. I’ve published a bunch, and have some of my work in reference texts. That said, I haven’t published my own book; but that’s not exactly odd in my field.
Also… your professor should feel that their work is the best option to teach from. If they didn’t think it was important enough to go through the work to research and publish, they wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) have done it.

Lucius and Arthur's fight also gives us idea why other weasley kids(exept Percy) are like that. We see so many instances in the books where they don't care to get their hands dirty if anyone insults their family (the famous ootp scene). It also makes me remember when Ron suggests Harry to punch Malfoy if he couldn't think of any hex during the supposed duel in the 1st book. But in the movies its shown as Arthur didn't say anything as he couldn't think of a comeback which is seriously not how Arthur Weasley is.

Also it is supposed to show how 'older world' the Wizarding World is... in England in the 1990s if you were to get in to a brawl like that at a London shop... you're both going to the Police station, and ONE of you is going to Jail, at least in the over-night lockup once they decide who is at fault.
In the Wizarding World, which is much more like the 1800s than the 1900s... Someone breaks it up, and tells them both to go soak their heads... no police getting involved. Again, that's just not how the 1990s London would work.

They are allowed to do magic on the train. The end of this book mentions them using the last bit of their time being allowed to use magic, Hermione would have certainly gotten in trouble for doing magic in diagon alley.
There are many instances where magic is used on the train rides: Hermione repairing a glass door, Draco and gang getting jinxed to oblivion on 2 separate occasions and Draco using petrificus totalis on Harry.

The books did mention the method used for detecting is imprecise and imply it tends to be overlooked in areas a lot of magic is already expected. In the Chamber of Secrets, Harry got accused when Dobby used magic specifically because he was the only known magical being in the house. In Order of the Pheonix, Umbridge was almost certainly monitoring the Dementor attack.

Mongoose kill snakes, even cobras (google). A weasel and a Mongoose look very similar. So it's thematically cool for Slytherins and Malfoys to hate Weaselys. And for Weaselys to always end up in the school house that has a traditional rivalry with the snake house. The books are full of subtle nods to things like this.

An interesting change in the movie is that Lucius says he will see Arthur at work, but they don’t work together in the book. Lucius is a school governor, but he doesn’t work for the Ministry of Magic.
Also, I think that since the movies were geared towards kids, they removed most of the fist fights from the entire series to discourage trying to solve problems that way!

    @DreadKyller Місяць тому +9

While for the most part I can agree with your statements, but you are incorrect about magic on the train. It is allowed, the end of book 2 explicitly mentions them enjoying their last hours they're allowed to use magic on the train "Too soon it was time for the journey home on the Hogwarts Express. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, George and Ginny got a compartment to themselves. They made the most of the last few hours in which they were allowed to do magic before the Holidays." And in later books a LOT of magic happens on the train, from Malfoy and his crew getting hit with tons of spells from the DA members, to Ginny's hex that got Slughorns' attention, and much, much more.
Furthermore the trace doesn't tell the Ministry who performed the spell, this is the entire reason for the plotline with Harry's near expulsion due to Dobby. The Ministry becomes aware that magic was performed in the presence of an underage witch/wizard, but not who performed the magic, since Harry was known to be the only wizard in the general area they then assume it was him, in a place like Diagon Ally that would be going off all the time, there's a lot of magic going on all over the place there, so if a student was using magic there and it wasn't actually seen by others, the Ministry would not be any the wiser. This goes on to be a part of the overarching plotlines of the inequalities of students with magic families compared to muggleborns, as for example the Weasleys are able to do magic at home without any issues because the Ministry wouldn't be able to tell whether it was the kids or the parents who performed it, and to checkup on the family every time a spell was used would be a massive waste of time.

The Weasley’s practically ignoring Harry plays into chaotic large family tropes, where there are so many kids that no one is missed when they go missing. You already get a disorganized feeling from the burrow, which is littered with magical stuff strange to Harry; then add a family of seven-which, yeah, isn’t that big, but way more people than Harry’s used to as an only child-and you get one big…whirlwind of…something

Yes, harry hide in the same cabinet, it was good that he didn’t closed it completely. The cabinet at Hogwarts was not broken yet so if he did he had got to Hogwarts ”a bit” faster than he planned 😅 And a lot more confused. But some of the teachers lives at the castle full time so an equal confused professor had probably helped him back to (I base that on the fact that Trelawney and Hagrid does that, but of course Hagrid was not at home during that day. But I find it very unlikely that they are the only two who lives there full time).

Differences between the book and the movie used to really bug me. Then it hit me. The books and the movies are not the same story. They are alternate versions. Things that happen in the Harry Potter books have nothing whatsoever to do with things that happen in the movies.
A classic example is the book and the movie 2001. These two were written together as a collaboration between Clarke and Kubrick. Originally the plan was to have USS Discovery travel to Saturn where they discover that the moon Iapetus was not a natural object, it was a stargate.
At the time little was known about this tiny moon other than the fact it is half white and half black. There were some who thought Iapetus could not possible be a natural object (it is natural) and in the book it would be an alien artifact left by the same beings who left the monoliths.
However, Kubrick could not properly depict the rings of Saturn in a way that would look good, and so he decided they would all go to Jupiter instead.
In the forward to 2010, Clarke makes clear 2010 is a sequel of the movie, not the book.
This was when I realized, the book and the movie are not the same story.

In the deleted scene he just kind of calmly appears and acts friendly with a peer, whereas in the book store his cain comes down on Draco's shoulder and is very confrontational with Harry and the Weasleys. It's a much better character introduction in the context of the movie.

Which does become important later in the movie, but we don't even get an indication of this happening in the book until near the end.

I think part of the reason the books were more expensive that year is that Lockhart's books are all recent publications. The usual schoolbooks are probably the same ones that the school has been using for years. Those could be purchased used, for less than a new copy. Remember that the twins and Percy also have books for their classes, and they are also taking electives. Bill's and Charlie's old books would only last so long. Lockhart's books haven't reached the point of someone willingly selling them back to the bookstore. All copies available for sale at Flourish and Blott's will be new books.

OK, I feel the need to point this out: Hermione's offence in the movie version was not her _second_ time, because her fixing Harry's eyeglasses in _Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone_ was not against the wizarding laws. This is because of two reasons:
    1. They were at the Hogwarts Express, where other children have also performed magic, even in the books.
    2. Performing magic outside Howarts is forbidden for underage _pupils,_ not other underage children - and Hermione was not yet a pupil of Hogwarts at that point.
Fixing Harry's eyeglasses with magic again in the second movie is definitely a violation against the law, though. But it was her first, not the second time.

Do you expect upward 80% Each Book be faithful adapted for TVShow?

The movies don’t actually make sense as stand alone stories, the editors got a bit carried away. If you don’t have some extra knowledge about what was cut or changed you stand no chance against the plot holes, and there are enough already. I understand that the movies will be truncated and adapted, but they still need to have a coherent plot, and they just didn’t. It’s a source of great frustration for me.

Arthur is one of my favorite characters. I would have loved watching him take Malfoy’s lunch money….
