47:25 He downplayed just how dirty they did Ron in this scene. In the book, not only does he not do any of the gloating/"I let her win". Ron actually beats Hermione in the duel, and when he's celebrating she says "Okay, so you disarmed me once. I beat you 13 times." And Ron replies, "Yeah. I beat *you* once!" Basically showing just how much he respects her skill that he considers disarming her once a major victory.
As someone who has read the books and loved them and l loved the movies.. I don’t get why people say Steve Kloves hated the character of Ron? He was given a lot of stand out moments that people seem to forget or don’t seem to bring up.. Rupert Grint did a great job as Ron and is the glue of the trio! While yes I would have added more to his character but there’s other characters and side characters I would’ve added more including Harry and Hermione.. so I don’t think Ron was done dirty in my opinion but Ginny Weasley was done incredibly dirty.. I think some book fans are just hard to please because the movies are so brilliant wow far from perfect. I don’t think the TV series is going to capture that magic and the adventure and the great cast that we got in those eight movies!🪄❤️🎬
@@marvinschannel5391he’s admitted that he liked Hermione more, and wanted to give her more to do. And he gave a lot of Ron’s important scenes to Hermione. Like the devilsnare, or explaining mudblood, or know more about the everyday wizarding world since he grew up in it, and has a parent in the ministry. But I think what how people the most was how they had Hermione say the “if you want to kill Harry, you have to kill us too” when in the book it was more impactful when Ron said it while standing on a broken leg.
One of my most depressing Parts about this book was when Harry found the mirror after Sirius died and was immediately hit with a wave of depression. He had forgotten entirely that he was given that mirror to communicate with sirius and that all of that could have been avoided if he had just used the mirror and remembered it. It just made him feel guilty and added on to the feeling that he caused his death.
That part struck me too, in two ways. 1) The way you mentioned. 2) By this time in the book series, J.K. had taught me to pay attention to details and foreshadowing. I was scrutinizing every conversation, and making tons of predictions as I read. When Harry found that shard, I was astounded that I had missed it too! I had completely forgotten about its existence. It brought me back to the feeling of reading the first book, and learning how significant that insignificant Nicholas Flamel card was. A piece of useless information that became crucial to the story! This is what I miss most about reading the series for the first time. It was so much fun to be a sleuth at Hogwarts right along with Harry and his friends.
Does the book even mention him thinking he could have used it before? Seems like a plot hole to me, he had the mirror all along, and I remembered him having a device to call Sirius while reading, but instead, Harry goes for Hermione's ridiculous plan of invading Umbridge's cabinet again.... like stealing Firebolt would have been SO last book right? What was weird that Rowling mentioned mirror AND time turners without explaining characters not even thinking to use them... at least Harry recognizes telling Snape would have been sensible so out of six major ways to fix stuff Potter ignores one is handwaved (literally no explanation of not grabbing a time turner when a whole cabinet of them is falling on them, next book mentions they broke after the fact but that read like damage control). Oh also nobody of teachers notices pupils hands bleeding or scarred, and Dolores gets away with CASTING UNFORGIVABLE CURSE in front of dozen witnesses.
@@KasumiRINA when Sirius gave him the mirror, he told Harry that it was a way to let him know if Snape was giving Harry a hard time with his lessons. At the time Harry didn't know what it was because it was wrapped and Sirius told him to open it later as Mrs. Weasley wouldn't approve (and she was in the room). But Harry thought to himself that he wouldn't used it in fear of what Sirius would do and didn't want him to leave the house, so he forgot about it, didn't opened it and only remember about it after he found it in the bottom of his trunk and saw what it was but at that point, Sirius had already died. The reason he didn't use his Firebolt was because it wasn't in Umbridge office, it was moved to the dungeons which was rumor to be guarded by a troll. The time turners are very tricky. When they appear in the time room, they were too keen to find Sirius and the prophecy room that they didn't see the time turners, it's only after they are destroyed that it's pointed out what they were. When they were being attacked by the Death Eaters the time turners were destroyed in the process, so there wouldn't be any way to use them. Even if they were to pick on up before, the events of them being in the Ministry of Magic and being surrounded by Death Eaters was gonna happened since they can't change what had already happen. As for the hands bleeding, it would only bleed at the moment of writing on the parchment but then it would disappear and the hand was as normal and if done a few days, it didn't leave a mark at most it was pink the next day. In the book it was only mentioned that him and Lee Jordan had had detention with Umbridge. So i don't think a lot of students were hurt so teachers didn't noticed. No one really got a scar except Harry since he did had a go at it for like a week and a half and Ron was the one to realize what Umbridge was doing and Hermione was told. And she never ACTUALLY casted the curse, she was going to but was stopped by Hermione. We know that she would've if she had the chance but she didn't so she gets out of that one by a technically.
Also while reading the book I had remembered the thing being given which we later find was a two way mirror. I always felt why isn't Harry using the thing given by Sirius. Instead of sneaking into Umbridge's office, why isn't he using it. And at the end I also felt terrible, how Harry would have felt
Tbf, this would've been a good fit to the GoF movie Moody, since there he was quite quirky and out of touch from the society norms. Which for me shows that Moody is good only at fighting Dark Arts and he got so deep into it, he forgot how to be a normal human. Also, movie Moody is times better imo, especially knowing the fact that in the movie - Moody doesnt even need a wand to protect himself, while the book got him knocked out by Death Eaters.
In all fairness to Moody, Harry at this moment had a lot on his mind going on mainly two events that happened during the dinner. The first was a conversation between the twins and Mundungus about illegal substances that he brought for the twins which they wanted for their joke products, to which Harry feared that they may split from the family like Percy when their parents disapprove of their career choice, a choice which Harry financed. The second was a conversation between Lupin and Kingsley about Dumbledore not choosing Harry as a prefect where Kingsley said that he should have chose him, not mentioning Harry's momentary disappointment when he found out that Ron became a prefect. Moody asked if he was ok, to which Harry lied. So Moody gave him the picture that he found when he was looking for his extra invisibility cloak. I liked in the film that it was Sirius who showed it to him as they needed to develop more between them before his death.
I'm a huge Neville fan. I was so upset that the scene at Saint Mungos was left out. His grandmother so proudly explaining about his parents is where I start crying. By the time his mom gives him the gum wrapper before they leave and Neville puts it in his pocket I am sobbing. For me,, this is the most powerful moment in the entire series.
I know, this book was the biggest when it came to Neville's growth as a character and that all just got thrown away and Neville's biggest moment in the series got played for comedy. The FUCK?!
@@hughmungus431 I almost took you seriously for a second there. Then I realized if you are being serious, then you're the scariest kind of stupid, the dangerous kind.
@@hughmungus431 If you can read, maybe you should use those skills to type out a sentence that actually makes sense? I don't know man, just a suggestion
I wish they added the scene in McGonagall's office in the movie. It starts out so tense and then it's just broken by McGonagall offering Harry a biscuit. I generally laugh every time I read this. It also gives some insight to Umbridge and her position in the school.
McGonagall: Have another biscuit. Harry: No thanks. (He said coldly.) McGonagall: Don't be ridiculous! (She snaps) Harry: Thanks... (He said grudgingly as he took one). Hilarious scene between them! 😂
@@dazza028 I very much know that. It still never made its way to the big screen. I literally said that it was from the Half Blood Prince in my comment.
Fred and George telling Peeves to "give Umbridge hell" is special ... because Peeves acknowledges this, which is about the only time he ever listened to anyone.
Anyone other that the Bloody Baron of course… and McGonagall when she tells him to twist it the other way… (sorry for ruining the point of your comment, I just wanted to point it out :))
the scene with the boggart and Molly is even more emotionally draining in the books. She literally had to witness all her loved ones' dead bodies. but when it turned into Fred and George, she saw both of them dead together. because not even in her wildest nightmares did she ever think they would be separated. makes Fred's death even more tragic.
McGonagall had a ton of great lines in this book. Best teacher EVER. I love it that when Umbridge says Harry will never get to be an auror, McGonagall responds by telling Harry she'll make sure he gets to be an auror if it's the last thing she does.
Even though Umbridge barely resembles her book counterpart physically in looks, I couldn't care less, because Imelda Staunton was perfect for the role. You couldn't cast her better in my opinion.
Some of the book characters look just cartoonish, Umbridge is a perfect example. It simply can’t be done in that same way, I’m actually glad the films modify the looks of the more cartoonish characters in the books.
Fun fact: The actress who played Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) actually felt bad for Harry during the I Must Not Tell Lies scene. And just like the rest of us, even she thinks she's a deluded, bloody monster.
@@ashleightompkins3200 She is absolutely fantastic and did an astonishingly amazing job with the Umbridge. And (as I mentioned a couple of times in other comments already), her beauty works even better than the book's idea, changing the book's contrast of looks and character vs girly additions to, in my opinion much more adequate, movie's contrast of looks vs character
One of my favorite scenes was Harry’s career council with Minerva and Umbridge. Minerva: “Life huh? So…career?” Harry: “Mabye an Auror?” Minerva: “Well you have done great in Defense Against the Dark Arts-“ Umbridge: “I think i misheard you. You said he does great in that class but he’s doing terrible in mine.” Minerva: “My mistake. I meant he does great when taught by a COMPETENT teacher.”
I love how it starts with Harry and McGonagall being like, "An Auror will be difficult, but here's what you can do." To "HELL OR HIGH WATER POTTER YOU WILL BE AN AUROR IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO." Just because she's pissed at Umbridge.
Luna's line about not being seen as a threat when isolated and cut off from everything else would play a HUGE part in the Deathly Hallows. Specifically when Harry, Ron and Hermione chased down Voldemort's horcruxes.
I hated the change about Ron and Hermione's RoR duel in the movie. In the book, Ron was appreciative of the fact that Hermione did better than him in their duels and they were playfully bantering about who is better at duelling as Harry walks along with them to the room. However in the film, Ron is turned into an overconfident sway idiot who says " don't worry I'll go easy on you" and is rekt by OP Hermione. I'll never forgive the films for making a joke of his character.
Idk if I´m the only one noticing this, but when Petunia explains how she knows about Dementors, she tells something along the lines of "I heard that awful boy telling *her*". Harry immediately thinks she´s talking about his parents, but Petunia is actually talking about Lily and Snape. In fact, Harry witnesses the exact moment when he sees Snape´s memories of Lily in Book 7
Molly’s stance on the Harry and her kiddos joining the Order makes a lot of sense when you remember that BOTH her brothers died in the 1st Wizarding War fighting for Dumbledore and Order of the Phoenix. I love her, she’s such a good character.
Before watching the whole video I scrolled through and saw this and thought “ah come on it can’t be said that many times can it?” Well here I am to apologize. Just goes to show how much was changed from book to movie I guess.
01:00:49 Also Lilly's intervention was the reason why this became Snape's worst memory, because his tongue slipped and called her a mudblood. Which after years of excuses Lilly made for Severus for his involvement in the dark arts, this incident brought their friendship to an end, therefore making it his greatest regret which probably will be covered when we get to the Deathly Hallows.
@@royalreviews5270 Would they have? I feel like her being called a slur was the last straw -- their friendship was already slipping. Romance was way out of question.
@@royalreviews5270 it wouldn’t make sense if lily and snape got together , their friendship was already falling apart when snape defended his death eater friend

Some things I actually missed in the movie - "Have a biscuit, Potter!" - "Harry has always got excellent marks for every exam Defense Against The Dark Arts that was set out by a COMPETENT teacher!" - Umbridge's hand coming out of the fireplace and Sirius therefore having to make a run for it - The "SNEAK" jinx - Fred & George's portable swap - The interview Harry gave to Rita Skeeter, Umbridge banning the Quibbler in response, everybody wanting to read it all the teachers (except Snape, of course) suddenly favoriting Harry having him bonus points for the silliest achievements. - "Give her hell for us, Peeves!" - "Peeves! it unscrews the other way!" - McGonagall questioning the justice system as a criminal betrayed Dumbledore's Army's existence to Umbridge escaping Azkaban in the process. - Filch getting to Harry thinking he was sending an owl away in order to order some dungbombs (and Cho coming to his defense) - "Weasley cannot do a thing, he always lets the quaffle in, that's why Slytherins all sing, Weasley is our king!" - Live long ban for playing Quidditch - The niffler in Umbridge's office - Umbridge being shocked in the hospital wing after Harry comes back from the department of mystery - Lockheart still giving out autographs, but still being unable to remember who he was - Meeting Alice & Frank Longbottom in St. Mungo's - "Dolores, may I remind you I usually don't permit people to talk in my class when I am speaking?" (and the entire checkup of McGonagall's class, and that was so much fun as Umbridge was totally no match for McGonagall's quick wit). - Ginny mimicking Umbridge's "hem hem" so extremely well that she scared the crap out of everybody. - Umbridge being chased out of the school by Peeves (and McGonagall saying she can't stop him because somebody took her walking cane away.... which she actually appears to have lent to Peeves for that precise purpose). - And (as has become a bit usual since POA) at the end Dumbledore doesn't even tell Harry half of the vital stuff he tells Harry about in the novel. Especially since Dumbledore blamed himself for loads of things (which goes even further in TDH when Harry meets Dumbledore's spirit in Limbo). - And that includes the notion that the prophecy could have concerned Neville in stead of Harry, but that Voldemort set the prophecy to Harry when he decided to go after Harry in stead of Neville. (The fact that Harry was, like Voldemort, a Half-Blood, is believed to played a role in this decision, as Neville was a Pure-Blood).
Molly and the Boggart scene when Harry walks in and sees the boggart, it’s in the form of a dead Ron, and he’s thrown into shock by the sight. When Sirius walks in, the boggart is in the form of a dead Harry, who must look eerily like the dead best friend that Sirius once had. Sirius continues to stare at the spot where the dead Harry just was, indicating his shock and fear over Harry’s death, but I think it’s also about James’ death, making his reaction parallel to Harry’s about Ron. We understand the Harry/Ron relationship better than the James/Sirius relationship because we’ve directly watched it unfold, so it helps us to understand how Sirius felt about James and his death if we think about how Harry would feel about Ron’s death. .
I give him props for that, but I dislike the fact that he jerks off to Goldenberg and discredits anything Rowling did in the book. He credits him for having "emotional scenes" and doesn't even mention how emotionally impactful it would've been to show the St. Mungos visit where they meet Neville's parents. He's welcome to have his own opinion, but IMO this is the best book in the series BECAUSE it's packed to the brim with content and world building that the movie largely left out. I really think this is a prime example of why the HP series would be better suited to a TV show GoT style than movies.
i was so upset when they didn't include harry trashing dumbledore's office in the movie - they really missed out on showing any of his grief over sirius's death after leaving the department of mysteries, which i think did a disservice to how much it impacted harry
They did try to show his grief actually, just that in a very subdued way that made it seem more like he was just sad rather than outright depressed and angry. I guess this was for the sake of keeping Harry's image for the movies as that of a more typical fantasy hero (doesn't let the pain get to him all that much and handles it as maturely as he can).
That would contradict the entire point of the film. Harry's character arc was him moving past his trauma and embracing the good parts of life, like love and friendship. Too add a scene which involve Harry destroying everything and ranting about how much he hates the world would go against that completely.
my favourite line of OOTP was flitwick telling umpbridge that he could have removed the swamp but he wasn't sure he had the authority to. Idk i just found this line funny
No, it was the firework in his classroom, not the swamp that he said that. However, after Umbridge left Flitwick did in fact remove the swamp but left a little bit as a tribute to the Weasley twins.
Dumbledore in the book was just a fun read. Particularly in the scene when Harry is captured by Umbridge and brought to Dumbledore's office, or when he arrives at the Ministry. His explanation at the end was also a good read, showing a man who was wrestling with his mistakes.
I really prefer book's Dumbledore...the aura he holds in the book and the popularity over the wizarding world is like of uncrowned king and the eriee we feels when he talks is completely different...he deserves a webseries about his whole life journey and how he became such a powerful wizard in the whole wizarding world.
I think this book has the biggest clue in the series that you omitted. When Uncle Vernon asked what a Dementor was and Petunia answered, Vernon wanted to know how Petunia knew about them. "I heard -- that awful boy -- telling her about them -- years ago." When I read this I knew that it was an important clue. She did not say that Potter boy. That meant that it was someone else. Who was the awful boy? It was Snape.
another difference is that the twins were careful not to disrupt the exams, since they knew it was important for most of the other students. Unlike in the movie
I really liked the part when Sirius' mum screamed at the top of her lungs everytime a noise made her awake . It's eerie and fascinating. Too bad they didn't put that in the movie.
They actually put the scene where Tonks knocked over the troll leg umbrella stand, which in the book is what caused Mrs. Black to start screeching. They could have easily put the scene there.
I wished they included that scene where Hermione kisses Ron on the cheek to give him a thumbs up for the Quidditch match. And his reaction was like positive shock with his hand touching the spot where she kissed. 😂
I don't agree that the book has no theme. The most important theme is Harry growing up, learning to appreciate his friends and understanding how important Sirius and other people close to him are. It is especially obvious when you compare Hogwarts Express scenes from the beginning of book 5 and book 6. It book 5, Harry is ashamed to be sitting in a compartment with Neville and Luna, especially when Cho comes in. In book 6, he is suddenly popular and gets invited to join "cool" people, but he refuses to, because he enjoys the company of DA members. This was very powerful, I think.
I thought the obvious theme is coping with loss, and inability to prevent it. The entire main story is Harry missing Sirius then the driving force for DA to act is Potter trying to save Black.
It was a good one indeed. But the centaurs in the book grabbed Harry and Hermione and had a debate about what to do with them as the centaurs were hostile to them as well albeit not the same as they were to Umbridge, so Harry and Hermione weren't out of the woods yet (pun intended)
It's logical that it wasn't in the book. It sounds too over the top for that situation. McGonagall and Peeves already had many fights with Umbridge, the book doesn't need that line.
@@dannyjorde2677 You sure? I feel like using that line is essentially using Umbridge's own words and cruelty against her. Which makes it so dang satisfying
@@syazwanmustapah2826 In books Ron is Harry's best friend, who always there for him and knows, how to make him feel better. But, in the the movies they had Hermione do it.
In the book Neville can also see the thestrals. I also love when they find the Room of Requirements. In the movie, (I think) Ron mentions needing a bathroom. But in the book its Harry in reference to Dumbledore's story about needing a bathroom after taking a wrong turn one morning
can we talk about how morgan basically made a whole movie length video. we appreciate how much hard work and dedication into your videos you’re doing so amazing
I went through something similar to Harry 10 years ago. Lost my Aunt to terminal cancer age just 52. I cried for pretty much a whole week. Before she died, when I knew things weren't looking so good for her, the part of OOTP, where Mr Weasley had been bitten by Nagini and when Harry was thinking, but mr Weasley wasn't going to die... he couldn't, I was both thinking in my head and saying out loud, but Auntie Lou isn't going to die... she can't... but then, she died. It’s still painful remembering her life, my 30 years of life growing up with her being like my own older sister, let alone my mum's nearly 4 years younger sister. She's survived by her 4 children, aged between nearly 17 and 31. It’s not a sign of weakless. Crying is only human, it releases a lot of tension, endorphins, stress. It’s a natural release for anyone's body. You wouldn't be human if you didn't cry. Dumbledore with Harry immediately after the ministry of magic and him seeing Sirius die reminds me of what my mum says when I'm down or having bad times. She says, I know how you're feeling Jen. But, I didn't know what was about to go down with Dumbledore in the next 12 months after that scene.
Most times I prefer the book over the movie. But in this case, I think their differences make them both good in a way. Even though I still like the fifth book better than the movie. But hey everyone is entitled their opinion.
I agree, and I understand the stance of those who consider the fifth film better than the book. But both sides of this argument agree that the film did a good job in adapting the source material. To me that's what matters.
I loved how Order of Pheonix was able to focus on Harry's psychology and mentality, but it felt to scary for me when I was little and didn't like it has much as I did with the others
The scariest film to me was Goblet of Fire. The graveyard scene plus the absolutely creepy 2nd task.. I was about 5 or 6 when I watched it and it scarred me
What i love about the "Most well kept lawn award" with the Dursleys is that there was a watering ban in place that summer and all of the houses had dried out lawns..so the Dursleys having the most well kept would mean they were breaking rules...i wouldn't envy them if that award was a real thing and they show up to collect it.
Even better, what if JK Rowling had killed them off in a car crash on the way to this non existent best kept lawn competition? Harry could have a lot more gold and an extra house once he was of age. Wowser! I would have gone for that with my own keyboard or pen if I'd written this series.
Sirius giving Harry the mirror saved Harry's life. If Harry did not have that fragment of mirror they would've died in Malfoy manor. I love that she made Sirius' last gift so relevant.
@@lexiburrows8127that isn’t certain. What’s only certain is he’d have survived past OOTP. He may have been killed later in the war. In fact I think there’s a good chance of that as his name was cleared posthumously, meaning that if he was alive he’d have been more actively involved in everything the Order was doing.
The scene with Umbridge and the centaurs is one of my favourites in the film “I really hate children” - Dolores Umbridge, iconic “Tell them I mean no harm” - Dolores Umbridge, whilst cowering behind Harry and Hermione “Sorry professor, but I must not tell lies” - Harry Potter, one of the best lines in the film
Despite the long read, I actually enjoyed it way more than the movie, watching the movie not knowing anything about HP just made me lost, I didn't know anything that was happening lol But the detail and great writing of the book made it really enjoyable it has to be my favorite thus far
Can’t wait for the “Half-Blood Prince” differences video. When my friends ask me why I didn’t really like the film version, I always tell them that they swapped all of the good bits of Tom Riddle’s backstory for teenage angst/hormones.
Fun fact: being born in 2002, I was one of those who watched the films before actually reading all of the books. Truth is, I now realise, I’ve never actually finished reading the Order of the Phoenix…So thank you a lot for this video☺️, I adore this series of yours.
Something I just remembered that I thought was very sweet - during the cleanup, Molly ends up facing a Boggart - apparently her worst fear is losing someone she loves. Because of that, she keeps crying when she uses the charm, and instead of changing into something amusing, it just changes into another dead figure. I found it sweet that it even turned into Harry - when she says he's as "good as" another child to her, that makes it clear that she really does feel just as maternal towards him as she does towards her own children.
I feel like Sirius and Harry's moments from the movies is amazing since it feels like family b4 something heartbreaking happens which makes it more sadder than b4.
"Are you barking mad?!" is one of my favorite lines from this movie. Especially as it was asked to Sirius who was in dog form at the time. and coming from Mad-eye Moody, it makes it that much better.
The reason Flitwick is teaching the choir is for the third film they did not need flitwick but the filmmakers wanted to include Warwick Davies in some form, so they got him to play the choir master instead. In later films they decided to keep the look for the choirmaster but conflate it with the character of Flitwick, so Flitwick became both the charms teacher and the choirmaster.
Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle didn't stand down in the train at the end of the book. Ernie McMillan, Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Anthony Goldstein and Terry Boot all cast different spells on them and left them there looking like slugs in robes.
Yes, I thought the bad guys trio got a taste of their own medicines and didn't just stand down on the train. I remember the DA members kicking their bodies out into the corridor after they finished with them. 1:26:03
Forgot to mention that yeah the hufflepuff match they lost and Ron played badly, but Ginny managed to catch the snitch and they only lost by I think 10 points. Forgot to mention Ginny was the seeker in Harry's absence. The movie left a lot out, impossible to get it all, so easy to overlook that too. Also ravenclaw was the final match
Sad it was left out cuz she’s the one that became a professional Quittich player (even though I always thought Harry should have played professionally at least for a couple years.) plus movie Ginny was soooo bland- thanks to the writing
The one thing i really like about this book is professor mcgonnagal, she's an absolute badass. I wish they included some scenes in the movie, like the biscuit scene and the chandilier scene.
Minnie was perfectly cast and perfectly characterized for the films. I just wished three of her sassy moments from this book were here. • Have a biscuit Harry. • Umbridge is incompetent. •It unscrews the other way.
Naruto is basically Japanese harry potter, both Naruto and Harry's parents are killed when they're babies, both have an evil sealed in them(the fox and a piece of soul, they're treated like shit until they go to school and make friends, orochimaru is basically voldemort lmao they give their followers curse marks and like snakes, harry and Narutos moms are redheads, both have 1 male and 1 female in their main group and they're both trained by old guys to prepare them for the climax of the series 😂
This would mean , ron is going pure evil in end , voldemort being a Wesley . Percy killing Wesley's for some noble reason and Ginny not being a Wesley or Ginny is dead .
Aww I wish they would have kept that argue scene between Molly and Sirius because I always felt Molly treated and considered Harry like one of her sons , especially starting from Chamber of Secrets
I really hated that scene. Molly was completely in the wrong there. She should not be trying to boss Sirius around and insult him and especially not in his own house.
That’s extraordinary! I guess you mean that every Tuesday, Helena Bonham Carter actually filmed the Azkaban prison break scene every Tuesday and would refilm it every week?
The only problem I have with this movie is that they cut out most of Mcgongalls badass moment like the biscuit scene and Umbridges expection That was a quick first like Did not expect that
Same, even moreso because Maggie Smith would have killed every single scene. I would pay all the money to hear her do McGonagall's savagery in Career Advice.
and the marrietta thing i wanted to see Sneak written acroos her face and also the whole percy thing also quidditch and how good ginny and ron is at it but i understand cos you cant put all that into one movie ik this is small but i wish they added the scene of ginny impersonating umbridges 'hem hem' in the hogs head
1st book and movie = 20 min 2nd book and movie = 30 min 3rd book and movie = 40 min 4th book and movie = 60 min (1 hour) 5th book and movie = 80 min (1 hour 20 min) Every 100 pages, movie flame covers in 10 min, so I think half blood prince would be 1 hour long and deathly Hallows will be split, 35 minutes each. This is just some coincidence i found lol.
I love how its like then the movie cuts to “insert scene” but there is a lot that happens in between showing how much is missing from the movies and I wait and love these videos because it’s been years since I read the books so it’s fun with a catchup and it’s making me want to re read them
In defence of movie Ginny getting jealous over Harry and Cho, while yes, she is dating other's, she mentions in Half-Blood Prince that she never actually gave up on Harry and always had a sliver of hope they would get together. So these brief looks of jealousy might not be that far off
@@KingOfMelos I somewhat feel that Goldenburg had some love for Ron and Ginny's characters. Why do you think Ron and Ginny were better portrayed here than the other films written by Steve "Weasley Butcher" Kloves?
Really wish they added the St Mungo scene with Neville. Would’ve been awesome to see St Mungo and it would’ve been heartbreaking seeing what his parents have become. Plus, more Lockhart would’ve been great.
There are many things in the films you can sort of excuse as "they have to cut or change to save time" but Hermione being a straight up Know-it-all and Ron being incompetent 90% of the time
The movie where I miss Peeves the most, he was just awesome at tormenting the most hated character of all. Wish they never cut him from the movies. Fred and George were just great ❤️ I'll never get over Fred's death. Great video Morgan, keep up. Love this channel
Book Sirius: Immature, reckless and deeply misses James that Harry can never be an equal to him, more like the son of his late friend. Movie Sirius: Mature, responsible and is ready to forget James for Harry through that facepalming "Nice One, James!" line.
Exactly! This is what I don't understand J.K's thoughts when she portraited Sirius in the book. Only by judging book Sirius (particularly Order of the Phoenix), you probably wouldn't call him a good father figure.
I don’t blame Sirius for being upset and moody in the book but he was so selfish and never seemed to care for Harry. How selfish are you Sirius that you want Harry to be expelled so he can stay with you!
I like how they portrayed Sirius in the film as they needed to flesh out his relationship with Harry before his death. But in the defense of the book version, they needed to show his bordom and inability to do anything as he is still wanted and his animagus is exposed by Wormtail to the death eaters. Add to that he is confined to a house he hates with no one to spend time with after his 12 years of Azkaban and two years on the run. He was made for adventure and risk and not for sitting workless and the film didn't go enough into that. Also it culminated when Snape called Sirius a coward when he informed Harry about the occlumency lessons. I'll admit that Rowling should have balanced these two versions in the book, as the book Sirius had a whole story on his own.
When you really think about it, Sirius didn't care about Harry more than Snape did. Sirius only saw James in Harry, while Snape in a similar fashion saw only Lily in Harry.
@@alpha-sama unfortunately Snape also saw only James in Harry for most of the time. This was the whole point of his bulling and prejudice towards Harry. Of course, Lily was the only reason why Snape saved Harry's life multiple times, but in general Snape constantly repeated how Harry is similar to his father. However, while Sirius loved Harry for seeing James in him, Snape hated him for that same reason.
Could we just appreciate the fact that he does this? It’s literally a 1 hour and 27 minute video, he stated he put a lot of work in it, and omg thank you so much MovieFlame ❤
Always found it slightly strange how she avoids saying the name since she is muggleborn and so not exposed to the superstition of not saying the name as deeply as those such as Ron who have been brought up in the wizarding world. I know she will have read enough books to understand thr naming convention and superstition/fear and maybe she just does it to fit in, but it always surprises me how reluctant she is to use Voldemort's name
@@MrApplelovin I'm pretty the reason people were still afraid of the name was because when voldemort was still alive, saying his name would allow him and the death eaters to apparate instantly next to whomever said it and kill them.
I think it's a real shame that they cut out the scene with the boggart. It was a very powerful and emotional scene, plus it showed how much Molly Weasley cared for Harry.
That's not in the book actually. In the book it was actually Harry who starts the conversation to get the memory. In the film they had this fish story for some reason
@@scaranvostok3637 and the random scene where Death Eaters set The Burrow on fire, nothing even close to which happened in the book. *EDIT* : in fact, the movie cut out the one interesting scene during Christmas break where Scrimgeour calls Harry "Dumbledore's man through & through", and Harry says yes he is.
The amount of effort that goes into this channel cannot be thanked enough. I truly appreciate all the work you put into your videos. Great content as always
In the book Dumbledore brags casually about how easy it would be to break out of Azkaban, captures all the death eaters single-handedly and effortlessly including Bellatrix, then forced Voldemort to flee as Voldemort realises he can’t win In the movie- Gets slapped about by Voldemort
@@rug4565 Yeah after the fight when Voldemort flees with her but he incapacitates her before the duel, Dumbledore literally takes everyone out on his own 😂
Does anyone notice a pattern? Steve Kloves: Turns GOF, a popular book, into the worst film in terms of execution. Micheal Goldenburg: Turns the least popular book into the best film. Steve Kloves: Turns HBP the most popular book into the worst adaptation. Thry should have kept Goldenburg for the last three films!!!!
The problem with Kloves was that he gave Ron's lines to Hermione. Kloves favoured Hermione more than Ron which resulted in the change of lines ( which is wrong on Kloves part due to adapting from a book) Goldenburg atleast adapted this well ( an 800 page book with many sub plots in it) by keeping the lines in the corresponding characters and pacing it properly. Half blood prince suffered due to it badly adapting the story and Ron's character was just there for comic relief or silence ( as seen in the ending of the movie where Hermione mentions Harry and Ginny and Ron is in the background). Goldenburg would have done a better job adapting the Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Pt 1 and 2.
@@kelinnaidoo5290 And Goldenburg was a Romione shipper as well. Kloves tried to force in Harry/Hermione in the 4, 6, 7P1 and 7P2 films at the cost of Hinny too. Im waiting when Morgan roasts about this in the next video. 😐

i kind of like sirius in the books more. it doesn’t show him as this super supportive, emotionally intelligent father figure to harry. it makes sense that he doesn’t have the emotional capacity to comfort harry at these times and isn’t always super optimistic. he spent more than a decade in the most depressing prison where his happiness was sucked away when he knew he wasn’t guilty for the crime he was convicted to. the movie gives unrealistic ideals, which is nice throughout the dark themes of the movie, but in my opinion, isn’t as good as the sirius in the books
I agree - and I think the movies in general have more sweet/"sappy" moments. The relationships and dialogue in the books are far more down to earth - strong bonds, but not a lot of vulnerable conversations and beautiful words.
Most people say (and id agree) that it feels bloated and too long, the ministry battle could have had so much cut out as it lost a lot of excitement due to it being drawn out, many parts go on for multiple chapters without something exiting happening which makes reading those parts a bit of a slog. Its by no means a bad book just not as high standards as the rest of the series
it was my least favorite book because harry was so moody and depressing and snapping at everyone all the time. umbridge's presence at hogwarts made things more depressing too. there were good parts though. and i love how everything gets resolved in the end and in book 6, things get super exciting. book 6 is my absolute fave
It has at least half a dozen major plotholes where characters blatantly ignore obvious ways to deal with things and instead, go for some batshit insane method... example, why not ask Snape to contact Sirius? Why not steal Firebolt instead of breaking into Umbridge's office again? Why being pissy with Dumbledore for early in the book? Why not use a time turner that's literally falling into their hands? Why not curse Umbridge with puking candy or something, and make swamp in some random corridor instead? Why not tell on her torturing students, and sending her into Azkaban for trying to use Crucio? Why the hell are they stopping for half an hour to explore the rooms ministry instead of closing door the moment Harry sees it's the wrong room? Film fixes the last one and has them find the veil thingy by accident AFTER the fight... The book is full of headscratching moments like that. I get why people like it, but also understand why it can be the most hated with so many contrivances, though personally I believe proceeding with Goblet of Fire setup without DQ (since when a cup overrides entire ministry of magic if Harry's entrance was obviously cheating?) and ignoring Marauders map when it would solve everything (until one time when it is lost straight after) is worse. The last part also applies to never noticing RON'S RAT BEING A PERSON in previous books.
I wished the films added these two pivotal Ginny scenes: 1) The "lucky you" scene when Hermione coerces Harry to talk to them. It's such an important scene for Ginny because it's a reminder that she wouldn't let her traumatic ordeal from CoS affect her as she has accepted of what she has become onwards. She understands how Harry is going through the Voldemort issues. 2) The chocolate egg scene where she says anything possible of you got enough nerve. It was a cute moment of friendship b/w Harry and Ginny.
I love how the ending when harry realised that he actually had the "saving-people" attitude as Hermione said, and that he could just not do anything about it. There was no way Voldemort snd Sirius could be inside an area as secretive and protected as the Department of Mysteries. But Harry was too panicky to realise that and he just broke inside the Ministry. It showed that even someone as good as Harry wasn't right. He had flaws too. And I love it.
Hi Movieflame I love the Harry Potter video series you’re making. I love the amount of effort you put in these videos. Keep up the great work! You got 1 more sub!
Fun fact not many people will know: all muggleborns have magical blood from a distant ancestor (a squib who married a muggle or fellow squib), it even says in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (by Newt Scarmander) the last name Granger!
Peeves was the biggest thing that the movies missed. He added so much in the books yet not a mention of him in the movies. I will have to reread the books and watch the movies again.
I love how you brought attention to the fantastic scene of Harry and Luna in the forest, it's one of my favourite scenes in all the movies, because not only does it set up the Brilliant theme of Harry needing his friends, but it also sets up a real friendship between Harry and Luna far earlier on than in the book series. Harry and Luna's friendship in the film is incredible and I feel like it doesn't get enough recognition.
I like their friendship, too, but I have to wonder why that friendship took so long to appear between the first book and Order of the Phoenix. I also wonder why somebody as smart as Luna didn't get sorted either into Gryffindor or into Hufflepuff (many Hufflepuff students showed themselves to be quite friendly, as evidenced by Cedric in Goblet of Fire).
@@shepwillner7507 I think she's Ravenclaw because she's quite intelligent. She is also a foil to the idea of the Ravenclaw members to seem aloof or snobbish. She's observant and quiet, and reminds me of my high functioning autistic son. She has been through trauma with her mother dying, her father being on the eccentric side but as endearing to his daughter, and she's bullied at Hogwarts in such a passive aggressive way. Her strength of character is to be solid in her beliefs, but open and even eager to friendships. Her matter-of-factness is a mirror one to Hermoine's. Luna assumes others think like herself and she isnt out to prove anything. Hermoine's character develops into being protective and Luna's arc develops into her being an integral part of a group and family to be accepted as she is. It's much more complicated and nuanced than that, but I am on break on my work so that's my 2 cents for now.
One of the big differences between text and something live is that the trope, "Talking is a free action" comes into play. It's a lot easier to have a dialog heavy fight scene when it doesn't matter how long everything takes and there aren't fight noises and special effects explosions going on.
1:18:38 My problem with the film version is that it feels a bit too much "through the power of friendship we can do anything, yay" its overall a fairly dark film and that scene felt way too happy and childlike.
for me, throughout the whole movie it's ok but that last scene it's too much. especially with Sirius just dying and to end the movie with "the power of friendship" in a kinda happy note...i don't like it plus the dialogue of the scene feels very cliche and forced.

I beat *you* once!" Basically showing just how much he respects her skill that he considers disarming her once a major victory.
yeah he def rushed making this focused more on getting it all done rather than going into detail
It wasn't Ron who was talking to her it was Neville
@@JohnBonham-dv4fu Neville was duelling Harry.

@@ivball yep!

This makes me hate the movies! Also I feel Hermione is slightly shorter than Ron and Harry!
There's a lot that happened in between those scenes
SI-RI-US
Also while reading the book I had remembered the thing being given which we later find was a two way mirror. I always felt why isn't Harry using the thing given by Sirius. Instead of sneaking into Umbridge's office, why isn't he using it. And at the end I also felt terrible, how Harry would have felt

Moody: Hey Harry wanna see all these people who died
Literally how it went. Also I find it funny in a dark way that seeing all those soon to be dead people got him out of his teen angst bullshit
Yeah Moody is such a Mood killer!
then he saw himself dead
Not to mention him being a complete badass in the Department of Mysteries, while injured and carrying around a cursed Hermione.
@@AmandaWspoon not to mention the quidditch fight. Was sooo good seeing Draco get what's coming too him.

Even though Umbridge barely resembles her book counterpart physically in looks, I couldn't care less, because Imelda Staunton was perfect for the role. You couldn't cast her better in my opinion.
Yes 100%
Some of the book characters look just cartoonish, Umbridge is a perfect example. It simply can’t be done in that same way, I’m actually glad the films modify the looks of the more cartoonish characters in the books.
At least she’s less ugly

I hated the change about Ron and Hermione's RoR duel in the movie.
In the book, Ron was appreciative of the fact that Hermione did better than him in their duels and they were playfully bantering about who is better at duelling as Harry walks along with them to the room.
However in the film, Ron is turned into an overconfident sway idiot who says " don't worry I'll go easy on you" and is rekt by OP Hermione.
I'll never forgive the films for making a joke of his character.
That scene in the books was also kinda important because it developed and hinted at Ron and Hermione’s relationship later on

- "Dolores, may I remind you I usually don't permit people to talk in my class when I am speaking?" (and the entire checkup of McGonagall's class, and that was so much fun as Umbridge was totally no match for McGonagall's quick wit).

Er, yes.... And it didn't even take me that much time to do either.
Molly and the Boggart scene
when Harry walks in and sees the boggart, it’s in the form of a dead Ron, and he’s thrown into shock by the sight.

Exactly. I was disappointed they left that out of the movie
This is possibly my single favourite scene in the entire novels. It feels so incredibly, brutally real and raw.
That would contradict the entire point of the film. Harry's character arc was him moving past his trauma and embracing the good parts of life, like love and friendship. Too add a scene which involve Harry destroying everything and ranting about how much he hates the world would go against that completely.
The movie was NOT as good as the book.

😂😂😂😂that line is hilarious
"I heard -- that awful boy -- telling her about them -- years ago."
When I read this I knew that it was an important clue. She did not say that Potter boy. That meant that it was someone else.
Who was the awful boy?
It was Snape.
Always thought she was referring to james
another difference is that the twins were careful not to disrupt the exams, since they knew it was important for most of the other students. Unlike in the movie
That stood out to me, too!
I really liked the part when Sirius' mum screamed at the top of her lungs everytime a noise made her awake . It's eerie and fascinating. Too bad they didn't put that in the movie.
All of house Black's backstory was so fascinating to me as well, read the first chapters really fast
They put it in the tie-in game for the movie. It scared the crap out of me when I was younger, because I forgot about that part if the book.
That was so cute
I really wish that scene had in the film. It was such a cute scene

LOL!! I was thinking of a counting game, or something like the license plate game on a road trip. "There it is again! How many does that make now?"
My favorite thing in the movies that wasn't in the books was the "I'm sorry Professor. I must not tell lies" line in the forest.
That line is great, but the entire buildup to it is better in the book.
It was a good one indeed. But the centaurs in the book grabbed Harry and Hermione and had a debate about what to do with them as the centaurs were hostile to them as well albeit not the same as they were to Umbridge, so Harry and Hermione weren't out of the woods yet (pun intended)
That might not have fit in the books, but it was cool in the movie
It's logical that it wasn't in the book. It sounds too over the top for that situation. McGonagall and Peeves already had many fights with Umbridge, the book doesn't need that line.
@@dannyjorde2677 You sure? I feel like using that line is essentially using Umbridge's own words and cruelty against her. Which makes it so dang satisfying

The most heartbreaking thing that happened in this book was Harry spending a full day crying, after Sirius' death.

Kloves favoured Hermione more than Ron which resulted in the change of lines ( which is wrong on Kloves part due to adapting from a book)
Goldenburg atleast adapted this well ( an 800 page book with many sub plots in it) by keeping the lines in the corresponding characters and pacing it properly.
I noticed it as well. Goldenburg should have done movies 4-8.
i personally liked the GoF book over HBP (which is a close second) but yeah ur point still stands! :D
I don't think OotP is the least popular book, I think it's CoS, but either way they're awesome books.
Omggggg just what I needed I’m studying for my degree finals and you really help me focus and to hear that you just happened to put out your longest video!!!
I love how Voldemort in the movie tempts Harry to just kill off Bellatrix, a servant who is madly in love with her master! Shows us how little Voldemort cares for others!
And in the curse child he has a baby with her like wtf
@@rampagexcross7100 not canon, JK gave some weird writers freedom
@@immagonko4261 but it got jk's approval so it is cannon 😭
@rampagexcross7100 her hand didn't touch it, she wasn't involved in writing this so no
@@rampagexcross7100lol JK has said a lot of things that are "supposedly canon", so no. The cursed child is not canon, and not everything she says is right ( iykyk )
"I'm sorry professor... I must not tell lies" easily one of the greatest movie moments that wasn't in the books. So satisfying
They really should have kept the "Have a biscuit, Potter" scene. It was so funny 😂😂🍪
i kind of like sirius in the books more. it doesn’t show him as this super supportive, emotionally intelligent father figure to harry. it makes sense that he doesn’t have the emotional capacity to comfort harry at these times and isn’t always super optimistic. he spent more than a decade in the most depressing prison where his happiness was sucked away when he knew he wasn’t guilty for the crime he was convicted to. the movie gives unrealistic ideals, which is nice throughout the dark themes of the movie, but in my opinion, isn’t as good as the sirius in the books
I agree - and I think the movies in general have more sweet/"sappy" moments.
The relationships and dialogue in the books are far more down to earth - strong bonds, but not a lot of vulnerable conversations and beautiful words.
I don’t know how Order of the Phoenix is your least favorite Harry Potter book. It’s the definition of pure perfection. Anyway, great video
@@AP-jz1eh tbh he had every right to be moody as everyhitng that was going on
its my favorite also!
it was real emotional and interesting
I wished the films added these two pivotal Ginny scenes:
1) The "lucky you" scene when Hermione coerces Harry to talk to them.
Indeed that chocolate frog scene is amazing I still don’t understand why it’s so important tho I guess it shows there friendship developing more
I love how the ending when harry realised that he actually had the "saving-people" attitude as Hermione said, and that he could just not do anything about it.
Every institution needs an anarchist to keep things fresh.
@@Ballin4Vengeance you mean Chaos Goblin to be accurate, because Peeves is the true definition of one.
I absolutely love those drawings/paintings of the book moments

You must have worked so hard for this 100 mins long video. Thank you for such amazing content.
1:18:38 My problem with the film version is that it feels a bit too much "through the power of friendship we can do anything, yay" its overall a fairly dark film and that scene felt way too happy and childlike.
To be fair it is a really good message. "You can get through the darkest of times if you have loyal friends."
Love is the most powerful magic in the Wizarding World
it felt cringe when I saw it honestly
i agree. i much more like the way the book pushes this message through the sorting hat and nearly headless nick
for me, throughout the whole movie it's ok but that last scene it's too much. especially with Sirius just dying and to end the movie with "the power of friendship" in a kinda happy note...i don't like it plus the dialogue of the scene feels very cliche and forced.
