When I first started Skyrim, I: 1. Spent nearly 2 hours going on Reddit to figure out what starting race to pick and trying to understand what they meant by thief build, stealth archer build, battlemage build etc 2. Accidentally hit a chicken and got confused for 30 minutes wondering why unkillable NPCs were trying to kill me. 3. Got introduced to the Nord Space Program via Giant's Club 4. Didn't know you could ride a carriage, assumed it was decoration and ran to Whiterun, Riften and Solitude before spotting it. 5. Got owned by a dragon while panicking about how to make it come down because I only had an iron sword on me. 6. Got confused at how to swing a sword because I was on the Switch and didn't check the controls and was stupidly flailing the controllers around thinking motion controls were still on. 7. Got caught for stealing a sweet roll 8. Died trying to fight the guards 9. Got lost in the Ratway trying to find the Thieves Guild 10. Nearly pissed myself when I went to my first dungeon and got jumpscared by a draugr Good times.
This is the exact same thing that happened to me during my very first playthrough. With the exception of 1&6. Because I'm too lazy to research and I played on the ps3 version.

I was like ‘OK’. Then turned into a werewolf and killed everyone in the cabin. Then did it again in the sanctuary. 10/10 I ain’t taking orders after being kidnapped sorry
Are we just going to ignore the awesome carriage driver that takes us far distances day and night at extremely low rates? With the current state of Skyrim I's charge like 200 septims minimum lol.
That carriage driver is thinking in his head, "Man, this is the life, I keep getting paid like 50 gold a pop, and all I do is wait for them to board the carriage, then I open my map and click on 'Fast Travel'.
The problem is that I already got gold falling out of my pocket and nothing to spend it on. The prowler's Profit is useless as a award because Gems are basically gold. Even if you know where they are, some are locked behind quest lines.
The best reason to not kill Astrid, I think, is just to hear Babette's story. Veezara: "Ha ha ha ha! Again! Again! Do the part where he tries to buy you some candy." Babette: "Okay, okay. Wait. Here we go. "Ooh, you are such a pretty little girl. Would the sweetie like a sweetie? Oh yes, how about some chocolate?" Oh yes, please, kind sir. My mama and papa left me all alone, and I'm so very hungry. I know a shortcut to the candy shop. Through this alley. Oh ya, very good. Very good. My it is dark down here. Oh, but you are so beautiful. Such a lovely smile. Your teeth... your teeth! No! Aggghh!!" I don't know who her victim is, but it was obviously a child molester.

Imagine telling a guy you killed the leader of an assassins guild and he trusts your word with no evidence to back it up and he proceeds to trust you with killing the rest of the guild...

You can just kill Grelod the kind before meeting Aventus Aretino to save time and this actually opens some extra dialogue where Aventus tells you your more amazing than the dark brotherhood.
also if u go to bleak falls barrow early before going to whiterun then when the jarl said farengar need help to get the dragonstone u get a special dialogue too
One time I was in Blackreach and when I found that research lab I decided to take a nap because why not. I already killed the old lady. So basically I was abducted all the way from Blackreach.
In my first playtrough I was deep into Volkihar Castle, right before Valerica's study where you have to open a secret passage and somehow I thought sleeping inside one of the coffins would've done the trick. Astrid went to a remote island of the shore of Skyrim into a vampire infested castle just to kidnap someone that got rewarded with a plate.
When I met the Dark Brotherhood: How DARE you try to pull me into this unlawful activity you shall all die!! When I met the Thieves' Guild: lol sign me up bro y'all are cool
I feel Bethesda wasted potential for a quest line where you individually hunt down members of the brotherhood and protect emperor Titus mede from assassination attempts For rewards they could have had some unique armour and weapons and even the ability to call a squad of penitus occilutas (I probably butchered that spelling) to help you fight and maybe you could have been awarded a player home like if you sided with the dark brotherhood It would have made being a good guy worth it Oh well
Ide settle for a shadowmere alternative, she's just too good, i'll never forget when i came across a dragon and i was like well bye bye horse then shodowmere proceeds to kick the dragons ass. also found out how to use her to level up, 3000 gold just doesn't cut it.
Destroying the brotherhood just isn't worth it financially. By the time you knock off the resale price of that armour it wont even match the 20k for killing the emperor. Not to mention all the assassination quests that pay rather handsomely. Add in that it you finish upgrading the dawnstar sanctuary the shrouded armour randomly spawns on mannequins throught the cave. There are also people to torture to find stashed chests with cash and armour in them. As a whole the questline must give you nearly 100k gold + loot and shadow mere. (Maybe someone could complete it without spending to see the total amount at the end of the questline?). To give that up for a measly 3k and some armour is plain stupidity. The only reason to do it would be for role playing reasons
My favorite way to do this optional quest path is as a werewolf character. As soon as I wake up in the cabin, transform and howl and the fun begins. Pretty ironic for Astrid to be eaten by a werewolf.
fun fact: After you kill Astrid you can go to windhelm and report this to a stormcloak soldier and he will still ask you to report to the empire officer.
I killed Astrid in my first play through because I had gone to sleep in my house and how dare she kidnap me from my own home with my precious sons sleeping downstairs??
I just wish there was a way to kill the thieves guild and remove maven from power. Also interesting note. You kill everyone before Cisero moves in. So he can still take the night mother to Dawnstar and rebuild the dark brotherhood

I always play a good character so I have a hard time joining the Dark Brotherhood because I roleplay. Unlike Oblivion where all the people you kill for the Dark Brotherhood are actually bad people, the victims in Skyrim are not so it is hard to motivate it. But I wish that the quest to destroy the Dark Brotherhood was longer and had better rewards.
My main issue with the kill the dark brotherhood quest as role-playing a noble character, is that you cant do it without rolling into the orphanage and chopping off some old ladys head in front of a group of children. Yeah I get shes not a good person, but thats too extreme for certain roleplays.
Well, and you get better rewards if you join the brotherhood. At the end you get 10k gold, a hideout and some followers. And you can still get the assassination quests
@@mchapman2424 There's a mod for that. "Innocence Lost Alternative" allows you to report Grelod's abuse of the children to a guard who will then confront Grelod. Grelod resists arrest and is killed by the guard. The quest proceeds normally from there.

But I agree this comment even when I joined the dark brotherhood on my first play through of the guild I felt I was walking down a grim path because these are bad people. Actually in some of the contracts in Skyrim some expected it. Most of the people didn’t deserve it. So yeah it’s hard for me too to also motivate it. Especially when you side with the legion and and then also have to assassinate the emperor. Also very few deserve it in Skyrim like one of the people in the contracts was a vampire and fought me. Overall 99% of the people in Skyrim don’t deserve it. Sadly it’s better to do it to a point where you can spawn a spectral assassin. TDLR: they make the Thieves Guild in Skyrim look like saints since they don’t kill unless it’s one of their own.
@@mchapman2424 I usually bought enough pickpocket leveling to be able to wait until she sits down, after her horrible speech to the children, and just poison her with a strong lingering damage to health poison. the health bar just shrinks away until they make their last exclamation. and the children were so happy.

i remember trying to sneak kill everyone in whiterun after killing grelod. i ended up killing most of the people in dragonsreach but the jarl was asleep, so i slept in his bed for 1 hr to see if he woke up. found out astrid kidnapped me and i thought it was punishment for trespassing in the jarl's bedroom
Amazing, how Astrid kidnap a fully armed guy and then like "Yeah, let's make just him choose to kill one of the 3 person, when he can literally turn on me cause he got better equipment than me."
Do you ever realize that this kid butterfly effect-ed to the point where he either promises the downfall of a large group of assassins or the death of a emperor.
I mean, the fact of the matter is that the regular Dark Brotherhood quest line is much longer and more in-depth than this one. I imagine it would’ve been cool if these agents used the black sacrament to call fake hits on people, then sent you to stop them once they arrive. Or something. I feel like they could’ve used a different character to start the quest so that Astrid could be the final kill in the quest, much like the Emperor would be her counterpart. Heck, maybe you could even stop her from trying to kill the emperor or something. These are just ideas, but this optional quest detailed in the video seems pretty lackluster compared to the alternative.
It could be like that one mission in Fallout New Vegas when you have to either protect or assassinate the NCR president depending on who you sided with.

In summary, this is why she says "Well done." It is because the player, in her eyes, killed the person who had committed the greatest crime and deserved death over the others.
Right? The Shrouded Armor and Savior's Hide were both made, I'm convinced, exclusively for female characters. A male Nord wearing the Savior's Hide looks like the kind of dude that would stand in a mirror doing the "would you fuck me? I'd fuck me. I'd fuck me so fuckin hard" thing.
stanley lee not the quest the Night Mother gives you. Once you end it she gives you another right after. The only escape is for pc used that can fail the quest by console commands.
There is a glitch in this guild quest line : when Astrid first takes you to the abandon shack and you have the pickpocket perk to take equipment, you can steal her blade of woe and then go through the quest line and Astrid will drop another blade of woe when she dies
speaking of glitch I found a glitch by getting two dawnbreaker's on accident .... right before you pick up the sword if you use a powerful magic that give a good explosion that makes everything lose fly around, the sword will pop a clone out and still be stuck in the same spot lol then you pick the one off the floor and the other from the normal spot a tadaaa two dawnbreaker's lol
The fact that they put in a quest that most people don’t usually do at first and is mostly not discovered and still took the time to make this redemption story is incredible I love Skyrim so much
Shame you couldn't purge Riften of the thieves guild and black briar. Yeah you can exile them during the truce but it's not the same as having their heads on a platter.
This option is very satisfying for a pure, good person play through. I've done it countless times and commend Bethesda for even including the option. Someone's gotta think of the people that want to RP pure characters.

Honestly, it does show that she's a cut above the usual assassins that come after you I mean, she manages to somehow abduct you and drag you, the all mighty Dragonborn, off to some hut in the middle of nowhere, no matter where you decided to take a nap Meanwhile, the normal Dark Brotherhood assassins fail miserably at even sneaking up on you
@@floydlechner2445 You do realise the reason why the Empire signed the White Cold Concourdent is because the Empire needed to regain its strength to fight against the Aldmeri Dominion. And not to mention when worship of Talos was banned people just started secretly worshipping him and the Empire didn't really care. It was only when Ulfric made the Stormcloaks did the Empire start being violent to Talos worshipsers because the Dominion got mad about it told them to do it and the Empire had too regain its strength. Ulfric and the Stormcloaks only think short term while the Empire thinks long term. The banning of Talos is a necessary evil to eventually destroy the Dominion.

I mean, they must be strong. I was exploring a Dwarven dungeon and a was low on potions them i said to myself "why not take a nap?" so i did. woke up with a woman telling me to kill some folks, i will never will forget this massive bruh moment.
Killing Astrid in the cabin is what I did the first time I ever played. Though in actual cannon, Titus Meade gets assassinated during the time of the last dovahkiin, whether the player does it or not

You know, if you have a pickpocketing of 100 and the perk points needed to steal equipped items, you can get TWO blades of woe. You'd need to pickpocket the dagger from Astrid either when you first see her or in the sanctuary. You'll get the second one for performing the Black sacrament on Astrid.
goodenuff4mii it's easy to make a better dagger, you can disenchant the blade of woe first. Also if your smith skill is high enough you can make a daedric dagger and then enchant it with absorb health. Also you can sharpen the blade to make it legendary. one more thing as well that if your enchanting skill is really high you'll be able to enchant it into absorbing more than just 10 health.
People miss this quest so easy! I just told my brother about this quest the other day and he had never known it existed. Though during my recent playthrough I'm still finding nifty quests that I've never seen before. Turns out you can also doba quest for cicero before you join or destroy the daek brotherhood. He can be found on the side of the road on skyrim stuck with a broken carriage transporting the night mother.
Kyrenaz Kanir You can find cicero some where random in skyrim. If you approach him he tells you that his carriage broke down and you can even see the night mothers coffin inside. You can then kill him and take the clothes off his body or you can help him by fixing the carriage. (not sure if you can kill him thw)
He is essential according to the game files. Not sure what you did War Machine, but you might have a mod or have lurked around in the console. But one more thing, by getting a hold of his clothes is another big mistake as you miss out on the best follower in the game.
Astrids last words are "well done" after you striked her down. So it´s the right thing to kill her and her matres. If you kill one of those captured, your just Astrids henchman. Or her Dog.
I always clean out the Dark Brotherhood. I do not like being kidnapped and told to kill somebody I do not know. Even if they are fictional people! I figure anyplace without assassins is a better place.
I noticed that too, though, I did kill one of the three after killing Astrid. I killed that filthy Khajit by beheading him. Felt pretty good about it. Something about him threatening me and one of his titles being "defiler of daughters" part really irks me and that's when I'm playing as a good guy in Skyrim
That is a pretty big MISSED chance to do some great questline. Killing the Dark Brotherhood members in Skyrim could've been the trigger to rebuild the guild by yourself. Imagine, right after you killed everyone, the voice of Night Mother reaches you and flatters you for a great, great killing. Then she begs you to rebuild the guild with Cicero's help, you recruit some NPCs, and then you get the chance to do the other contracts on the original questline, but without some like Kill of an Empire. The fact that it's so obvious that it's not worthy to destroy DB, actually told you that it's not how you are supposed to play this, so it makes pointless the possibility.
Or if you've joined the Legion, telling Commander Maro about the DB you will be asked to participate in the assault and after offered to join the Penitus Oculatus.

I always do the brother hood quest line because the perks are good. Tons of gold from contracts, summon spectral assassin, shadowmere, and the dawnstar sanctuary is cool
It’s already been said I really wish there was an equivelent of this for the thieves guild and Maven Black Briar. The Questline isnt even that good, my dragon born doesn’t do petty thievery, I want Mjoll’s Respect, and I want my soul to go to Sovngarde when I die and not eternally belong to Nocturne. Only reason I’d do it is because Nightingale Armor and The Eyes of The Falmer are pretty sick.
Wow, after all these years, only now I noticed that the Dagger on the Dark Brotherhood's map is placed on "Riften" and it's very likely related to the Black Sacrament that Maven Blackbriar has on her basement. Probably to kill the Jarl or the Lioness. Like you said, "The Dagger is for ongoing assassinations", makes sense.
I want to know who put a black sacrament onto the dragon born. It is weird someone in full dark brotherhood gear tries to kill you, and they also have a note saying to kill you on their persons.

You know, there's something that's always bothered me: Why is Mercer Frey the "bad guy"? He sabotaged a criminal thug syndicate whose sole purpose is gleefully rob people's hard earned stuff for shits and giggles, thus improving the lives of literally everyone except those douchebag robbers. Then he plans to completely wipe them out by emptying all of their resources then disappearing as a rich man whose main prize (Falmer Eye gems) isn't even stolen, but rather excavated. He takes away the criminal syndicate's ability to function, so that everyone's lives are better and lawfulness prevails. I mean, remember what Karliah says the moment Mercer is killed and you ask what's next? "Why, the biggest crime spree in all of Tamriel!" Wow, good job player: you've now ruined the lives of everyone except Maven Black-Briar by ensuring that no one's valuables are safe from the douchebags you've empowered. The people who Mjoll ranks eviler than the Dark Brotherhood are back in power...unless you don't help them and let them rot. Remember those annoying murderous thief random encounters? If you help the Thieve's guild, they thank you while stating that they've been successfully stealing and murdering others for their stuff. Fuck the Thieve's Guild.
+Vedumr Not at all. The Thieve's Guild has always stolen from random people, with the rich simply being the more lucrative targets. But the Skyrim branch has COMPLETELY reversed their mantra; they now steal from the poor and leave the rich alone (the literal first 2 quests is extorting the poor).
+Vemundr The argument for Mercer Frey is that, despite undoubtedly being an asshole, his assholery actually results in a ton of good results for everyone even if those results are unintentional on his part. This is contrary to the Thieve's Guild in its entirety (even Karliah) who claim to be on the moral high ground when, logically speaking, their actions don't benefit anyone but themselves to the point where they can very easily be considered evil. Mercer can be compared to Gaius Maro in that both do something extremely dickish to the player for a selfish reason which creates a vendetta, but both of them do technically benefit the literal entire world if they succeed in doing those selfish, dickish actions despite both of them not giving a shit about the world.
Honestly, I found this quest on my first play through. I didn't want to kill anyone so I introduced Astrid's face to my warhammer. Not worth it in my opinion.

@ESO I noticed the Penitus Oculatus had a faction notice like a bounty message when you attack/cast spells at Gaius Maro or Commander Maro when you aren't in the Brotherhood and make them hostile. Maybe joining the Penitus Oculatus was a faction-based bit of cut content in the game?
Could've been a very interesting alternative. Join the Penitus Oculatus and get to hunt dangerous criminals and assassins, reveal and arrest Thalmor spies, and solve crimes.

the fact that shadowmere fights doesnt make difference because horses are terrible in skyrim for fighting and arvak is always with you because you can summon him just take 2 seconds(and level up conjuration) shadowmere can die and is super slow to make him come back and you can use arvak prtty much everywhere, like in solstheim and blackreach
Shadowmere is training.... useless he's shitty at it. Giants and Mammoths are far more effective for training armor skills and any enemy works for weapon skills. You can train ten times faster using actual enemies then you can using the stupid horse. SO what if he fights? Its a mere 10dmg per hit. Completely useless. He's more likely to get in the way then actually contribute to the fight. The entire point of a horse is to ride it, to get to one point to another a little faster then walking. Or a lot faster if your over encumbered. Its for convenience and in that regard Arvak wins with bonus points for being able to ride him in "outdoor" places you normally can't bring a horse
In 2019 I bought a windows computer, and the person I bought it from says, "Oh yeah, this will run Skyrim just fine" I get it home and install Skyrim, and it won't get past the initial load screen.. FUCK! Bought an Xbox 1 shortly thereafter, and bought another Skyrim and I modded the hell out of it.. still playing it.

lol probably does the sacrament and is perplexed by why nobody shows up and you just kinda keep milling around like nothing happened. That would be so satisfying, even more so if she eventually got dialogue along the lines of, I heard rumours that you destroyed the dark bortherhood, then contracts you to work for her but you get an option to throw it in her face and walk away.

@@hithere439 I don't think it's true. She thinks she has everything but I have no doubt that of she was actually put to fight against the dragonborn it wouldn't be hard to kill her at all. Not only that but people would actually thank you, the only people who would really do anything about it would be her children besides Ingun. And if anyone is sent by them it won't be hard to get rid of them. She's not honestly as powerful as she says, it's just fear she gives others.

When I first started Skyrim, I:
1. Spent nearly 2 hours going on Reddit to figure out what starting race to pick and trying to understand what they meant by thief build, stealth archer build, battlemage build etc
2. Accidentally hit a chicken and got confused for 30 minutes wondering why unkillable NPCs were trying to kill me.
3. Got introduced to the Nord Space Program via Giant's Club
4. Didn't know you could ride a carriage, assumed it was decoration and ran to Whiterun, Riften and Solitude before spotting it.
5. Got owned by a dragon while panicking about how to make it come down because I only had an iron sword on me.
6. Got confused at how to swing a sword because I was on the Switch and didn't check the controls and was stupidly flailing the controllers around thinking motion controls were still on.
7. Got caught for stealing a sweet roll
8. Died trying to fight the guards
9. Got lost in the Ratway trying to find the Thieves Guild
10. Nearly pissed myself when I went to my first dungeon and got jumpscared by a draugr

In my first playtrough I was deep into Volkihar Castle, right before Valerica's study where you have to open a secret passage and somehow I thought sleeping inside one of the coffins would've done the trick. Astrid went to a remote island of the shore of Skyrim into a vampire infested castle just to kidnap someone that got rewarded with a plate.

I feel Bethesda wasted potential for a quest line where you individually hunt down members of the brotherhood and protect emperor Titus mede from assassination attempts
For rewards they could have had some unique armour and weapons and even the ability to call a squad of penitus occilutas (I probably butchered that spelling) to help you fight and maybe you could have been awarded a player home like if you sided with the dark brotherhood
It would have made being a good guy worth it

What a waste
Destroying the brotherhood just isn't worth it financially. By the time you knock off the resale price of that armour it wont even match the 20k for killing the emperor. Not to mention all the assassination quests that pay rather handsomely. Add in that it you finish upgrading the dawnstar sanctuary the shrouded armour randomly spawns on mannequins throught the cave. There are also people to torture to find stashed chests with cash and armour in them. As a whole the questline must give you nearly 100k gold + loot and shadow mere. (Maybe someone could complete it without spending to see the total amount at the end of the questline?). To give that up for a measly 3k and some armour is plain stupidity. The only reason to do it would be for role playing reasons
My favorite way to do this optional quest path is as a werewolf character. As soon as I wake up in the cabin, transform and howl and the fun begins. Pretty ironic for Astrid to be eaten by a werewolf.

I always play a good character so I have a hard time joining the Dark Brotherhood because I roleplay. Unlike Oblivion where all the people you kill for the Dark Brotherhood are actually bad people, the victims in Skyrim are not so it is hard to motivate it. But I wish that the quest to destroy the Dark Brotherhood was longer and had better rewards.
My main issue with the kill the dark brotherhood quest as role-playing a noble character, is that you cant do it without rolling into the orphanage and chopping off some old ladys head in front of a group of children. Yeah I get shes not a good person, but thats too extreme for certain roleplays.
Well, and you get better rewards if you join the brotherhood. At the end you get 10k gold, a hideout and some followers.
And you can still get the assassination quests
@@mchapman2424 There's a mod for that. "Innocence Lost Alternative" allows you to report Grelod's abuse of the children to a guard who will then confront Grelod. Grelod resists arrest and is killed by the guard. The quest proceeds normally from there.

But I agree this comment even when I joined the dark brotherhood on my first play through of the guild I felt I was walking down a grim path because these are bad people. Actually in some of the contracts in Skyrim some expected it. Most of the people didn’t deserve it. So yeah it’s hard for me too to also motivate it. Especially when you side with the legion and and then also have to assassinate the emperor. Also very few deserve it in Skyrim like one of the people in the contracts was a vampire and fought me. Overall 99% of the people in Skyrim don’t deserve it. Sadly it’s better to do it to a point where you can spawn a spectral assassin.
TDLR: they make the Thieves Guild in Skyrim look like saints since they don’t kill unless it’s one of their own.

I mean, the fact of the matter is that the regular Dark Brotherhood quest line is much longer and more in-depth than this one. I imagine it would’ve been cool if these agents used the black sacrament to call fake hits on people, then sent you to stop them once they arrive. Or something.
I feel like they could’ve used a different character to start the quest so that Astrid could be the final kill in the quest, much like the Emperor would be her counterpart. Heck, maybe you could even stop her from trying to kill the emperor or something. These are just ideas, but this optional quest detailed in the video seems pretty lackluster compared to the alternative.
It could be like that one mission in Fallout New Vegas when you have to either protect or assassinate the NCR president depending on who you sided with.

There is a glitch in this guild quest line : when Astrid first takes you to the abandon shack and you have the pickpocket perk to take equipment, you can steal her blade of woe and then go through the quest line and Astrid will drop another blade of woe when she dies
You could do that anytime before the final quest lol

speaking of glitch I found a glitch by getting two dawnbreaker's on accident .... right before you pick up the sword if you use a powerful magic that give a good explosion that makes everything lose fly around, the sword will pop a clone out and still be stuck in the same spot lol then you pick the one off the floor and the other from the normal spot a tadaaa two dawnbreaker's lol

The fact that they put in a quest that most people don’t usually do at first and is mostly not discovered and still took the time to make this redemption story is incredible I love Skyrim so much
Shame you couldn't purge Riften of the thieves guild and black briar. Yeah you can exile them during the truce but it's not the same as having their heads on a platter.
This option is very satisfying for a pure, good person play through. I've done it countless times and commend Bethesda for even including the option. Someone's gotta think of the people that want to RP pure characters.

You do realise the reason why the Empire signed the White Cold Concourdent is because the Empire needed to regain its strength to fight against the Aldmeri Dominion. And not to mention when worship of Talos was banned people just started secretly worshipping him and the Empire didn't really care. It was only when Ulfric made the Stormcloaks did the Empire start being violent to Talos worshipsers because the Dominion got mad about it told them to do it and the Empire had too regain its strength.
Ulfric and the Stormcloaks only think short term while the Empire thinks long term. The banning of Talos is a necessary evil to eventually destroy the Dominion.

You know, if you have a pickpocketing of 100 and the perk points needed to steal equipped items, you can get TWO blades of woe.
You'd need to pickpocket the dagger from Astrid either when you first see her or in the sanctuary.
You'll get the second one for performing the Black sacrament on Astrid.

goodenuff4mii it's easy to make a better dagger, you can disenchant the blade of woe first. Also if your smith skill is high enough you can make a daedric dagger and then enchant it with absorb health. Also you can sharpen the blade to make it legendary. one more thing as well that if your enchanting skill is really high you'll be able to enchant it into absorbing more than just 10 health.

People miss this quest so easy! I just told my brother about this quest the other day and he had never known it existed. Though during my recent playthrough I'm still finding nifty quests that I've never seen before. Turns out you can also doba quest for cicero before you join or destroy the daek brotherhood. He can be found on the side of the road on skyrim stuck with a broken carriage transporting the night mother.
I agree, missing out on Ancient Shrouded Armor and Jester's clothes is a big mistake as far as I can see.

You can find cicero some where random in skyrim. If you approach him he tells you that his carriage broke down and you can even see the night mothers coffin inside. You can then kill him and take the clothes off his body or you can help him by fixing the carriage.

He is essential according to the game files. Not sure what you did War Machine, but you might have a mod or have lurked around in the console. But one more thing, by getting a hold of his clothes is another big mistake as you miss out on the best follower in the game.
I did that like 5 years ago on the console and I never used mods. I may be remembering incorrectly but I remember finding his carriage near Whiterun.

I noticed that too, though, I did kill one of the three after killing Astrid. I killed that filthy Khajit by beheading him. Felt pretty good about it. Something about him threatening me and one of his titles being "defiler of daughters" part really irks me and that's when I'm playing as a good guy in Skyrim

That is a pretty big MISSED chance to do some great questline. Killing the Dark Brotherhood members in Skyrim could've been the trigger to rebuild the guild by yourself. Imagine, right after you killed everyone, the voice of Night Mother reaches you and flatters you for a great, great killing. Then she begs you to rebuild the guild with Cicero's help, you recruit some NPCs, and then you get the chance to do the other contracts on the original questline, but without some like Kill of an Empire. The fact that it's so obvious that it's not worthy to destroy DB, actually told you that it's not how you are supposed to play this, so it makes pointless the possibility.
Or if you've joined the Legion, telling Commander Maro about the DB you will be asked to participate in the assault and after offered to join the Penitus Oculatus.
That would be brilliant. Might be able to still get Shadowmere as well.

Wow, after all these years, only now I noticed that the Dagger on the Dark Brotherhood's map is placed on "Riften" and it's very likely related to the Black Sacrament that Maven Blackbriar has on her basement. Probably to kill the Jarl or the Lioness.

Why is Mercer Frey the "bad guy"?
He sabotaged a criminal thug syndicate whose sole purpose is gleefully rob people's hard earned stuff for shits and giggles, thus improving the lives of literally everyone except those douchebag robbers. Then he plans to completely wipe them out by emptying all of their resources then disappearing as a rich man whose main prize (Falmer Eye gems) isn't even stolen, but rather excavated. He takes away the criminal syndicate's ability to function, so that everyone's lives are better and lawfulness prevails.
I mean, remember what Karliah says the moment Mercer is killed and you ask what's next? "Why, the biggest crime spree in all of Tamriel!" Wow, good job player: you've now ruined the lives of everyone except Maven Black-Briar by ensuring that no one's valuables are safe from the douchebags you've empowered. The people who Mjoll ranks eviler than the Dark Brotherhood are back in power...unless you don't help them and let them rot. Remember those annoying murderous thief random encounters? The argument for Mercer Frey is that, despite undoubtedly being an asshole, his assholery actually results in a ton of good results for everyone even if those results are unintentional on his part. This is contrary to the Thieve's Guild in its entirety (even Karliah) who claim to be on the moral high ground when, logically speaking, their actions don't benefit anyone but themselves to the point where they can very easily be considered evil.
Mercer can be compared to Gaius Maro in that both do something extremely dickish to the player for a selfish reason which creates a vendetta, but both of them do technically benefit the literal entire world if they succeed in doing those selfish, dickish actions despite both of them not giving a shit about the world.
Honestly, I found this quest on my first play through. I didn't want to kill anyone so I introduced Astrid's face to my warhammer. Not worth it in my opinion.

I noticed the Penitus Oculatus had a faction notice like a bounty message when you attack/cast spells at Gaius Maro or Commander Maro when you aren't in the Brotherhood and make them hostile. Maybe joining the Penitus Oculatus was a faction-based bit of cut content in the game?
Could've been a very interesting alternative. Join the Penitus Oculatus and get to hunt dangerous criminals and assassins, reveal and arrest Thalmor spies, and solve crimes.

the fact that shadowmere fights doesnt make difference because horses are terrible in skyrim for fighting and arvak is always with you because you can summon him just take 2 seconds(and level up conjuration) shadowmere can die and is super slow to make him come back and you can use arvak prtty much everywhere, like in solstheim and blackreach
Shadowmere is training.... useless he's shitty at it. Giants and Mammoths are far more effective for training armor skills and any enemy works for weapon skills. You can train ten times faster using actual enemies then you can using the stupid horse. SO what if he fights? Its a mere 10dmg per hit. Completely useless. He's more likely to get in the way then actually contribute to the fight.
The entire point of a horse is to ride it, to get to one point to another a little faster then walking. Or a lot faster if your over encumbered. Its for convenience and in that regard Arvak wins with bonus points for being able to ride him in "outdoor" places you normally can't bring a horse

In 2019 I bought a windows computer, and the person I bought it from says, "Oh yeah, this will run Skyrim just fine" I get it home and install Skyrim, and it won't get past the initial load screen.. People seem to forget that the 20,000 gold you get from killing Titus Mede is less than the amount needed to furnish the Dawnstar sanctuary.

lol probably does the sacrament and is perplexed by why nobody shows up and you just kinda keep milling around like nothing happened. That would be so satisfying, even more so if she eventually got dialogue along the lines of, I heard rumours that you destroyed the dark bortherhood, then contracts you to work for her but you get an option to throw it in her face and walk away.
If lockpick your way into her home, you can find a room where she visibly has attempted to summon the Brotherhood
