Why is it that most videos of strumming, dont really mention that you dont have to strum all the strings on an up stroke? Thank you for making that so much easier.
Your fun to watch, high energy. But the most important thing is when you just go off the hip creating a song - while your teaching. You set an example of how much fun simple guitar playing can be. Thanks for the inspiration and the lesson.
Hi, I' Ron Holloway and I really appreciate your teaching, I am 75 (trying to learn) and have learned more over the last few months than I ever have before. Just want to thank you so much
I like you, man. You’ve got a nice easy-going teaching style. It’s great to watch how you get into that zone when that music takes hold of you and you just start singing away and forget that you’re teaching. Got a huge kick out of that. Happens to me all the time. And I’ve been playing for going on 30 years so I don’t think it’s going to be changing anytime soon. God bless. Learn something from you. I mainly a finger picker so this using a pic thing is not my strength right now.
57 yrs young and have been playing about 5 months. Have the Am Pentatonic and Blues scales down but wanted to start playing songs with a bit of strumming...yes I was frustrated. My Wife is on the front lines of COVID19 as a Medical worker and I just needed a bit of a pick me up so I started strumming... Here you are with this great video on this Easter Sunday and I feel blessed to have found your lessons. Thank you. God Bless from Florida
Every now and then I go back to this for some basic strumming practice - excellent instruction - and your ditty "One of these days I'm gonna / Start going to the gym / One of these days I'm gonna work out" always makes me smile. Good work.
I'm terrible at strumming with a pick (so much so that I bought a classical guitar and took up fingerpicking). I decided to give my pick and steel string another chance, thanks for getting me off to a better start!
I'm so glad I found your channel. I started playing about 5 weeks ago. I am finding your videos very useful, and I thank you for sharing. I purchased your Country Song Book bundle and I'm loving it. I have found a couple of the major chord transitions can be a little difficult, but I started using the Cadd9 and Dsus4 to play songs and it is so much easier. I'm still practicing the C and D, but when I want to play songs a little cleaner, I use the other variations. Strumming is getting better, but I struggle with the swing of Wagon Wheel. I know it is the 2nd pattern in this video, but I struggle to get the timing of the swing just right. I'll keep strumming. Thank you again!
Brother, two things. First, I was recently accepted as a member of the Worship team at my church. I couldn't figure out if I wanted to sing or not. i love the guitar, but it always overwelmed me, because I thought I had to be all fancy. That leads me to my second point. Your videos have shown me that for a beginner like myself, simple is better. Keep up the great work. I love your videos!!! I'll be using these skills on the team.
Thank you so much for your time and efforts. In Feb.2018 I turned 50. I bought a acoustic guitar and subscribed to your channel. I watch your videos, but I never touched the guitar. 2 years ago I bought a electric and took lessons for a month and was disappointed with my progress. This is the year you will teach me how to play my first note. I will push the truck from a dead stop starting tomorrow. Thank you.
I just started learning guitar three months ago and my best piece of advice to a fellow beginner is this, STICK WITH IT. Very frustrating at the beginning, but there’s a wall you’ll break through and become hooked super quick. Just stick with it and it becomes very rewarding very quick!!!
Here there. Just turned 52 this February 24th. Had to go on disability so I bought a Yamaha solid top steel string acoustic as well and subbed to this channel. Sucks being on disability (probably for a few years) but at least I have plenty of time to practice 😁.
Hi, I am 67 and recently started to try and learn guitar. I’ve watched a few different instructors but like your style and simplistic methods that even us old guys can make progress with. Thanks for your efforts.
You are the man. 69 year old with a D-18 Martin teaching my 11 year old granddaughter. Talk about string change outs and guitar set ups sometimes. GOD BLESS YOU MAN.
Hi from Ireland Matt, I just found your channel today it's great you have a great teaching style!! I'm sure I will be learning lots from you thanks pal 👍
Holly Cow I found some more of your video's and the strumming beginners must learn an it has help so much an glad I found it for I was having so much trouble with it and couldn't get a grip on it thanks again .
Hi Ron, You are great teacher. But I do have a problem with this video. You quit playing I'LL Fly Away" TO SOON. I love that song and it is one of my favorites. You had the same style as me, and I was right into it. Thanks for your lessons, and my God Bless you beyond measure. You are one that I could jam with all night and if I messed up it would be okay. I am 69 this year and loving it.
I just found this video. I have been in a rut for a while now just trying to learn and this video has kinda gotten me back into it. Have to practice that third one tho I didn’t really have that one.
WOW to hear ya got a lot of good things coming up and then knowing what came up for us all...yeah but I love ya and true God loves us! Love the lessons I get from you matt. Been with ya since around this time from what I can recall. I am no where near the player I want to be but I am no where near the wannabe player I once was. I was more a collector because I had a few guitars but didn't know how to play any of them. I can play a little something on them now though thanks to you. ❤️🙏🏻
Great video and really love your teaching style! Just turned 52 like the comment below me (John Weirman) and recently subbed to your channel. Unfortunately I became dissabled and cannot work (was an LVN nurse). For how long I will remain on disability I don't know (2-3 years?) but on the up side I now have plenty of time to practice 😁!
Just found your channel and it’s been a big help to me. I’m just picking the guitar back up and your videos make it so much easier to learn! Thank you!
Man that's a real good jam fly away. I never heard it before. It sounds really good on the cords being used also including the hammering technique. I'm going to try to learn and hammer that song tonight.
Matt I love the 3rd strumming pattern but you went so fast I couldn’t keep up!! is there another lesson with this pattern? Or a place where you have the chart? You are a wonderful and kind person and teacher!
Man you've done wonders for me. Bar chords though are killing me. Don't have the longest fingers and they are not terribly thick but man its killing me. Any info or advice and I practice daily would be appreciated. Love your faith in our Lord. God bless.
You'll get past it. Make sure you have an easy to play guitar. I traded my old one for a Taylor GS mini koa. Much easier for me. I yelled a lot getting back into it. For WEEKS. I know electric guys who ABSOLUTELY REFUSE acoustic for that reason, lol.
I'm trying to learn your easy chords on your easy song on UA-cam I was curious to have a question I'm a beginner and also I have small hands and I'm dyslexic is there any way possible somehow you come up with a solution where I can be able to staying with my hands easier to hit the cords right and strum at the same time
It's like I can play the faster stuff easier than the slower stuff. Like 👇👇👆👆👇👆 pattern seems to be my default my go to like it comes natural or something the slower stuff the timing stuff is the harder stuff for me. Idk lol
That was a pretty cool song did you actually start to write it out, if not you should sounded real catchy could be used in a heath workout commercial, cha, ching, cha ching, lol.
nope, you lose me again with the strumming. this video is the closest i have gotten to understanding what you are trying to teach but again the strumming makes no sense? why do you play C,D and G differently to what all of the books say???
Why is it that most videos of strumming, dont really mention that you dont have to strum all the strings on an up stroke? Thank you for making that so much easier.
Your instruction is great and you're giving glory to God is the best
Thank you so much
You are the best!!!…Rookie forever!
💪🏻

You know how you get so frustrated you tear up and then get mad that you’re tearing up and make it worse? That’s me rn
I’m doing this pretty good & I’m gonna work this until I get it. My hammer ons are nothing like yours. I can’t even hear them
Do a Alan Jackson week
I found it's easier to follow along if I put the playback speed on 0.5x. Life hack for those who are a little slow like me.
Seems so easy but I've been playing 30 yrs and still can't strum.i can play, just can't figure out why strumming is like calculus.
I can strum, but remembering hand picking isn't easy.
Sir please post your gospel song videos
subscribe to my acoustic selection channel! i have thousands of vids.
That was a pretty cool song did you actually start to write it out, if not you should sounded real catchy could be used in a heath workout commercial, cha, ching, cha ching, lol.

where are some new videos.
Down, down, up, up, down, up ... b... a ... start. It's like an old Nintendo code.
My car still isn’t moving....
nope, you lose me again with the strumming. this video is the closest i have gotten to understanding what you are trying to teach but again the strumming makes no sense? why do you play C,D and G differently to what all of the books say???
There is more than one way to hold a chord this is the easy way for beginners to learn guitar.
