When I see someone who could transition from chord to chord and EVEN sing, it's literally magical. I really want to be connected to music like this but my negative thoughts really grow, but I felt motivation from this video. After breakfast tomorrow I pick up the guitar and re watch n try this vid along :)
I keep doing my best to have my fingers on the strings and press down on the frets, but it seems no matter what I do it sounds nothing like this or anything I've watched. I tuned my guitar as best as I could and even when I just do one strum it sounds completely different from everyone else. I'm not sure what to do or if I'm just shit, maybe both.

Strumming pattern and timing is the hardest thing to get down but once you do that everything else just kinda falls into place... Thanks again @CountrySongTeacher
Blake Zeiter thanks for the encouragement, I did think it was going to be harder than it is, I’m more struggling with finger placement to keep fro getting those weird vibrations.

When people say "I cant play guitar" the thing is, most people probably can, its approaching the instrument in the right way and listening to people and taking the CORRECT advice. What I love about this is that you have just proven to everyone that by taking that little bit of time to get used to those relatively easy chords, you can be satisfied with playing a ... guess what ... a "SONG" with just two chords! Good job, keep up the videos!!
Matt first time I’ve ever commented, I’m self quarantining with my wife, dog and a new guitar on a couple hundred acres in south GA. Been three days practicing and have learned the four chords but having trouble with second string buzz.... Got plenty of time to get it right! Thanks for the videos GOD bless!
Yes I know them. 50 yr beginner. How sad right. Never had anyone teach me about strumming. Always heard you could play hundreds of songs with three cords. Now with you I've gotten out of the trap. Truly thank you!
Matt your the first guitar youtuber who tought me all the cord progressions. my birthday is today and I've been playing for about 2to3 years now. thank you for the lessons you've inspired me to play guitar and you have made my skills alot better though the whole process.
Mind shattering. Disabled service member trying to learn to connect with family. Love to connect with you and see about one on one talk. God bless you.

Just wanted say what a blessing you have been. I always wanted to play but thought I was to old "48" . Lol. But you inspired me! I've been playing about a year now and have moved on to the open chords but still use your 4 easy chords a lot. I've been playing and singing in my church for a few months now and have started a guitar practice on Thursday night's with some of the other men from church who want to learn. Including the preacher! So, your ministry has reached all the way to London Kentucky. Praise God and thank you my brother! Keep up the good work! You and your family be safe. I started 6 months ago but I started backwards,I learned Barre chords first, after that I learned open chords wich they became very easy, can't wait to hit my one year mark.the only reason I feel I'm learning so quick is because I put in at least 3 or 4 hours daily(everyday).thank you your videos have helped me so much.
Love the videos man. From one creator to another I just bought the guitar and piano bundle and look forward to dusting off the guitar I bought a few years ago and actually learn to play. Especially now that I'm writing a lot more modern country music. Keep up the great work.
Thank you thank you!! This is so helpful. I've struggled and your videos are great and these simplified chords are awesome. Got better in ten minutes than I have in two months😂 But I just wanna play for fun. Thanks again from the UK
Thanks Matt. Your dream to get everyone playing is one of the reasons I’ve been playing so much this summer. I live in the UK yet can still watch your videos, pausing and going back when needed. My timing for strumming is still slightly off but I love playing it and even though you’re online I feel as if I’ve got a tutor motivating and pushing me daily. Thank you.
This right here will help you learn and understand timing. Try it just exactly like Matt does it. One strum then start singing on the second strum. This little lesson has dramatically improved my playing. Thanks Matt
Once you learn something basic... You want to learn more. I have recommended Matt to a lot of beginners. Matt's awesome getting folks started. I still watch because I enjoy the videos.

Because of your lessons I now can play these 4 chords . can't quite get a Song yet but my first song will Be Travis Tritt I'm gonna be somebody. My mom asked what I wanted for Christmas I said a Matt McCoy DVD
I figured it’s not for everyone I have been playing for the past 10 years and still I can’t pass from the simple chords to something else ,I don’t even know where to go or what to learn...even when I try to play simple af songs (like stand by me or wonder wall ) the fingers are in the right position but sound awful...some people just got it some others don’t
Listen to some folk and Bob Dylan for inspiration and keep practicing, once you transition your chords 70 percent of songs are g c d and you'll catch on real quick
Matt, Thanks you for your lessons. I am much better after having watched several of your videos. I can play all 3 chords you covered, but I struggle with the hammer ons, pull offs, and rhythm of my strumming hand. Keep up the great work!!!
Great video! I have the cords down thanks to you! I still am working on the strumming part. For me that’s the hardest part. I have watched lots of your videos. Your making a difference! Thanks

Love this lesson! I saw on another video on youtube this is called the buskers technique. There are actually a couple other chords that fit in well with this too. I'm just learning acoustic guitar and this has kept me from quitting. Thank you so much for your time to put these videos out!! Can you do an easy beginner lesson on playing Puddle of Mudd, Spin you around?... If there is an easy beginner way to play it.
Thanks, huge help! Now that I have these chords down, I find the song on YT and play along with it ....try Wildwood Flower....uses these 3 chords. I always struggled with the original C . I bought myself my Baby Taylor for my 75th birthday - so I need all the shortcuts I can find! ;) It is never too late!
And I'm pretty sure that many of them skip to scales before they learn how to properly play chord progressions with different strumming patterns. Before they learn to make beautiful music from what they can do technically.
I watched this video 3 times in a row. Next week I’ll be touring. Starting in the living room for two weeks. Ending in the den for the last two weeks of the tour. And I don’t even own a guitar.
Wish there were videos that could easily teach how to fluidly and instantly transition from chord to chord and from chords to single notes etc etc. I would buy them if they did. Unfortunately, don't think such a thing is possible
Hi Matt Cheers for the brill lesson. The chords are not too bad to handle it's the strumming that gets me every time! If you can't strum like you do there the chords just sound boring and dull......what is the best way to learn strumming patterns?
this technique has made all the difference for me! it's amazing what you can do with some form of C, D, G (plus Em) and a capo. i kept hearing the song wagon wheel on your channel so i looked it up and strummed along to the darius rucker version last night. other songs i've strummed along with are fast car and learnin' to fly. keep up the good work! guitar doesn't have to be so hard. you can have fun with this technique while you work on the dreaded F barre chord and pink floyd solos. do you have any experience with baritone ukuleles or guitaleles? i think those both have some of the same strings as the guitar.
I am discouraged because my hand really is too small, BUT I purchased a thin neck guitar and can do stuff I never could before. I still can't reach, but I am fine for now. The thing is I am so discouraged because I tried for three months and calluses would not grow (a problem in my family). I had to wait for new guitar for one month, so I didn't touch anything. I came back horrible with pain from hell since what I did have, as little of a callus as they were, disappeared completely. Try playing a G chord without calluses and the string on finger #3 sinks down to the bone through the flesh of the tip of the finger. Yep, that is me. Even with short nails sanded back to nothing it digs into the fretboard because there is no callus. I am so disgusted at myself as I tried this once before 16 years ago and ended up packing everything away.
@@CountrySongTeacher Still trying, but the pain is horrible. The problem is the pain begins (even with silk and steel strings) then my fingers mess up to stop the pain. It is a subconscious move.
