I"m 76 and really only got to know him well over the past few months! i never had an album of his nor saw him in concert or on TV until one of his Christmas shows in 91, maybe. I love him and only wish I was tuned in back then. I don't think he ever did a concert in Missoula, mt when i lived there though.
I used to listen to this song, endlessly, when I was a teenager and suffering from depression. I did not know at the time what depression was, but if I had not found this song I would not be here now. today.

His voice had just gotten better as he aged, deeper and more assured, this is brilliant. I listen to his songs every day. John, you were wonderful and I long to get to Heaven and hear your concerts in the mountains.
I wouldn't say that he was singing more from the heart here. I just think he enjoyed giving the song a fresh arrangement. You can see his enjoyment in it. Lovely to watch.
I remember the record "Back Home Again" that had this song on it. I was under 10, and I would play it over, and over, and over. Just listen to his powerful vocals here. So strong. So clear. John, you are missed my friend.
Hello 👋 Maria, how are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Zack Hudson and am from Denver Colorado, Where are you from ? You seem like a real country girl
Absolutely the best, "Sweet Surrender", MORE THEN ENOUGH TO BE HERE TODAY, WOW. His voice is so rich, timing perfection, he has it all. What a Gift, Thank you for sharing it with us John.
I mixed the sound for all of these videos from the Newcastle concert while working at the ABC in 1994. John came in and did one guitar overdub and one line of vocal overdub. It wasn’t an ABC production but made for Sony/BMG 12” video disc with a karaoke version, which I also mixed, on the B side of the disc.
My life in music, finding my mate, and losing her to that fucking brain tumor 15 years in. I try to hold to this song, but damned if she doesn't weigh on my mind at times, nine years on.............
I can count on ONE hand the number of tunes that I consider my "Anthems" that have gotten me through rough times since I was a teenager. (And I'm 55 years old) This is one of them. This is about when I saw him, so this video has special added significance to me. (Wish I had seen him in Australia)
Gosh when I was caught up in an OK marriage, with man I loved, but I was so unsettled in my soul....this song seemed to voice exactly what I was feeling and it settles on my heart everytime I ❤ play it.
Found the refrain to be a magical mantra for childbirth. Worked well. 9.5 pounds of perfect cherub baby boy. Big baby for this body. Rapid really his birth from this smaller framed (alleged borderline pelvis) body. Home birth, perfect baby, Sweet surrender required. Thank you John, wherever you may be, great birth coach❗️🌹
Such a pity, no one understands that this is about a "transfiguration"...think about Saul and his path to Damascus, where he was stricken with blind eyes, and then called Paul, and his vision restored. He ,Saul/Paul, surrendered, to His CREATOR GOD, THROUGH CHRIST JESUS'S WORK.
I'm 63 and he was an inspiration to me as a teenager back in the 70's. Never gets old to listen to his songs even here in 2023. Sure do miss him

If this was the only song John had ever written, he'd still deserve a spot in the hall of fame.
Absolutely yes
Absolutely, John should be a Hall of FameR!!!
Arguably the best he ever did. This live version is better than the studio release; his voice got better as he grew older....
Not really. Although he was still awesome, young John Denver was epic.
Absolutely his best version of "Sweet Surrender". His voice was at it's best ever. And the banjo player, 'Just Brilliant'.
Yo know it
Yeah i agree i have this xeroxd
Absolutely! Absolutely breathtaking! No other version comes even close!
Well... That pianist was good man. He added a little extra spice.
In fact. I gotta watch it again.
"There's nothing behind me, nothing that ties me to something that might have been true yesterday." What a lyric 👌
One of many Denver masterpieces. Always alive in each well crafted note. We miss you, John.

You and me both, James. Listened to this one through high school as well. So glad we both are still here...
Glad to here this, don't give up hope life is beautiful just let your heart go there.

"Sweet Surrender" is my 'attitude of gratitude' song" . John Denver is still a precious heavenly being!
One of the most beautiful songs I've heard ever!!!!
The world's most glorious two-chord song!
I just realized that from your comment, that's how great this song is!
@@jdemarco Right?! Not to mention the finger-picking on that 12-string. Beautiful.
@@drumminwoman5646 Facts 👍
There's something so enjoyable about watching his hand go from strumming back to plucking like a cartoon. 😊
Boy, do I miss you John!
Your beautiful music and sweet voice touched and uplifted so many…

Wow what a great version 20 years from his original. Whata great voice. Miss John so much in 22
Wow this song is sooooo powerful
John sounds even better than the studio version of this song. Could it be he was singing more from the heart on this occasion. Others thoughts ?

I, too, considered this an anthem during one of my hardest life challenges. Everything John wrote and performed were healing in their nature. ❤

i💕 💕😴❤️💕love John Denver saw him 32 times
WOW . . . you are lucky. I can`t recall him ever coming to New Zealand.
If he knew what the world is like today...
They do from where they are.

At 55 this is my anthem regarding mortality, and a damn fine tune
I saw him live here in Australia bacj then but just missed out earlier in 1977 when he was here.
I totally agree with you. Greatings from Chile!!!
He hired talented musicians to back him & they're all great. What a show Sydney!!

Love Love Love John Denver! I saw him 3 times in concert. ❤️🇺🇸
My regret is that I always believed there would be time for another concert. Little did we know.
I am envious!
his music lives on...
Which another hymns would he have written if he were here still with us?
Damn he was great!
Great two chord song.
