Salut Chris, with regard to the Mas 36.
My model was manufactured in either late 1944 or early 1945. The US forces liberated St Étienne in August 1944 and production restarted almost immediately. MAS is the model name denoting that it was manufactured at the arms plant in St Étienne. It is the same naming convention today with the French FAMAS assault rifle referring to it being a fusil (rifle) automatique manufactured at St Étienne.
The MAS 36 was the last bolt action battle rifle (carbine) introduced by a major power. The main purpose for the design was to equip conscript troops rather than professional soldiers who were meant to have the MAS semi auto. The design is very clever and the action mimics some aspects in the bolt of both the British Lee Enfield and the German K98. Two aspects of the design show the type of user the model was designed for. All the screw adjustments to any important element of the carbine have screw heads requiring a gunsmith’s tool not a screw driver. The rear aperture sign is adjustable for elevation only. At he time of manufacture the armurier would test fire each particular firearm at a target contains 50 individual boxes. Each box had a corresponding rear aperture unit designed specifically to be that point of impact.
The MAS 36 is still in use in parts of the various Middle East conflicts. Mine cost me 1000 Euros a couple of years ago en France where I am resident. It is an excellent shooter with very low recoil. Cordialement RB

Users interested in a MAS-36 need to note the sites are peep and single post and not as accurate as most other WW2 bolt rifles. Another thing users should be aware of is there is no safety on this rifle. French Military Philosophy at the time was the rifle was to be carried unloaded until you went into combat. That being said I enjoy my MAS-36 and take it to the range a couple times a year along with my MAS-49/56 as both fire the same round 7.5x54 aka 7.5 French. The 49/56 is by far more accurate as it's sites are similar to an M1A or AR15.

I love that Colt .380! My first gun ever (1990-just out of the Army) was a stainless steel Series 80 Colt Combat Commander .45 ACP. I love that gun. I used to take it to the range all the time. I still have it in the blue case, but the cardboard box disappeared long ago. I then bought a Ruger P85 9mm that I never liked, and an AK (ban-era with the stock/grip cutout, and 10 round single-stack magazines).
Around 10 years ago, I bought a Colt M4 Carbine, and the question I have for you is, would I be wrong to upgrade the rifle with a new hand guard, optic, charging handle, etc.? I kinda wanted to modernize my AR, but I don’t want to hurt the value of the rifle. Should I just invest in a Saint, or an AR556 and trick that out instead? I’ve been told already that I own too many guns! (40)

There is no such thing as too many guns.
If you want a fairly cheap AR that you can trick out, look at Diamondback.
I bought one for cheap for a project & it ended up being a short project because it was wayyy better than I thought a cheap AR could be.
All I did was add optics, sling & change the stock/charging handle.

Salut, Many of the MAS 36 surplus models were refurbed at St Étienne (as mine was) and re chambered in 7mm-08, which is not a “war round”. For many years en France the public could not posses war round firearms such as 9mm, .45 etc. That is no longer the case. However the MAS being a bolt action rifle is not a restricted Cat B firearm (max of 12 allowed). It is Cat C as are shotguns and lever actions. All semi auto carbines, pistols and revolvers are Cat B. My CZ model 527 bolt action is unfortunately an exception. It is a restricted Cat B as it is chambered in 5.56 NATO / .223 which very much are still considered a “war round”.

It is possible to lose money on any investment but if you know what you are doing you will almost never lose money on them really the only guns that will go down in value are new guns when they come out with the newest model but that's not to say that in the future the first model may be worth the most price jumps up and down every day but something that is collectable today usually always will be

    The right to self defense.
When bullets fly through the air, they do so at amazing speeds. The fastest bullets travel more than 2,600 feet per second.
Explain how an unarmed person, confronted by a bad guy with a weapon or , baseball batt, knife, etc.
    A outruns a bullet.
B has time to get the phone out.
C has the calm or wherewithal to call law enforcement.
The bullet travels over 1,800 miles per hour. To put that in perspective, it's amazing to realize that bullets travel over twice the speed of sound
Explain how law enforcement is supposed to travel faster than a bullet traveling 1,800 mph to save a life.
Even if they get a call.
Sadly Innocent people everywhere are defenseless, when confronted by the bad guy .
There is no superman or super hero like on TV faster than a speeding bullet to save the day.
Why don't politicians who believe in firearm control give up their weapons and have body gaurds without weapons.
This is why I believe in the second amendment and self defense.
You are your own first responder.
Call or write your local politicians and the ones in Washington to let them know how you will vote if they don't represent your rights.
