  • Today we are going to talk about risk of recurrence for stroke. We will also talk about the risk factors for stroke recurrence. A stroke happens when the blood vessels that carry blood to the brain become blocked or burst, paralyzing the part of the brain that has lost blood flow. Approximately one-fifth of patients experience a new stroke within four years of being released from the hospital, and slightly less than half pass away during this time. A stroke increases the risk of another one occurring by up to ten times. The risk of having another acute stroke is greatest in the first semester after it. High blood pressure doubles the risk of stroke if uncontrolled.
Many symptoms, including facial paralysis, a severe, sudden headache, especially if it is accompanied by vomiting, paralysis on one side of the body, aphasia and language disorders, and vision loss or difficulty seeing in one or both eyes, are common to both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.
Imaging tests are used to diagnose strokes because they can show as well as the affected area of brain type of stroke. Strokes can be either ischemic or hemorrhagic. Ischemic strokes happen when an artery is blocked, preventing blood from getting to the brain, and hemorrhagic strokes happen when an intracranial vessel bursts. The most popular imaging technique for the initial evaluation of acute ischemic stroke, showing early signs of ischemia, is cranial computed tomography.
A thrombolytic drug administered intravenously to the patient may be used to treat ischemic stroke, a treatment method that has been used around the world for many years. In most cases, four and a half hours after the onset of symptoms is the cutoff point for initiating intravenous thrombolytics for acute ischemic stroke. The medication's purpose is to dissolve the blood clot that is obstructing the cerebral artery and causing hypoglycemia. Hemorrhagic stroke is typically treated by reducing blood pressure, hemorrhage, and any potential side effects like seizures. In some circumstances, a catheter is inserted to measure the pressure inside the skull, which rises as a result of the brain swelling following a hemorrhage.
👉 Best READING SUGGESTION You Will Read on this topic: book entitled "My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey" (available at: amzn.to/3vvX03y). A transformative experience for a brain scientist who experienced a massive stroke in the left brain hemisphere. This book presents an excellent history and great description of the anatomy of the brain and its functions.

I had 2 strokes first was Hemorrhagic stroke in 2020 for which open brain surgery was done , second was ischemic stroke in 2022 for ehich mechanical thrombectomy was done. Occurance of stroke depends upon level of stress, life style and various other factors. It is better to consult with your doctor to avoid future occurance of stroke.

Great comment! That's exactly what you commented. The same patient may experience more than one stroke episode. Therefore, medical follow-up is essential to reduce the chances of new events. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the topic! I'm sure it will help many patients! Do you take medication to prevent another stroke episode?
