Hi, I watched this because I couldn't remove the filter ('stickiness' of 2 rubber mountings), so thanks for that. Sorted. The reason for removal is to get to the cylinder head to see if the 'welsh/welch/core' plugs are corroded & leaking (a common problem apparently) as my engine is misfiring. You're very thorough and clear so it would be great to do a vid addressing this problem, incl removal of rocker cover/ gaskets, cleaning & replacing plugs etc. PS The misfiring is also commonly said to be due to a design flaw with leaking washer jet fittings (bonnet), dripping H2O onto the coils, frying them, though in my case not the problem on this occasion. Thanks again.

Many thanks I'm glad the video was helpful. I didn't know that leaking core plugs was a common issue.
I know that a misfiring engine can be tricky to track down sometimes. I purchased a diagnostics tool help with identifying a few faults and it really helped. I've bought a few for other cars I've owned then I've sold it after the car has been moved on. There are quite a few out there but I've used
I-carsoft diagnostic tools with good results. Good luck with your car.

Is it normal I did this filter replacement but noticed mine never had the small hose on the side just like a small sponge inside

I'm not sure....perhaps yours is a different engine?

It looks exactly the same, not sure 🤔 about that then. But thanks for the reply and I learnt how to change my air filter from your video minus the side hose 😀

Sorry I can't be more specific. It's great to tackle some of the jobs to maintain our cars, plus it saves money. Good lick with any other jobs. David

nice video dave. what does the small breather pipe do on the side of the filter housing? there is a filter sponge in its little holder in the housing and when i tried to change it it had been in so long it just crumbled into pieces. i'm driving without the filter sponge but the engine warning light has come on, could this be a possible cause? what actually does the filter sponge and filter pipe do? thanks again

    • @davidbaugh

That is the oil breather pipe filter. I would have thought if the pipe was a good fit even without the sponge filter the wouldn't show a fault, however I would fit one and see. Heres a link www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383936481703
If the fault persists it may be worth investing in a diagnostics tool, I have found them very useful and saved money in the long run. I have used icarsoft tools on several cars in the past.
Let me know if you solve the issue. David

little trick i've found with taking the engine cover/filter housing off is to remove the pipes/hoses then grab the left side of the box and pull up then do the other side. makes it a lot easier without pulling your back 😅

Yes it can help, however I would always advise changing the air filter at the recommended service intervals. They are generally not that expensive.

it doesnt in this car. Engine ventilation is connect BEFORE air filter. Air filter is dirty with oil and dust.

@@rafachabras2627 Best to just put a little breather filter on the crank case pipe and just not connect it to the intake at all! Much cleaner engine.

I have this ford unfortunately, it's a great car, but servicing is a fucking pain, the Spare Nissan Micra I had you literally popper off a cap, replaces the filter and job sorted

They can be over complicated at times. My brother has a Mk6 fiesta, a few months ago it would not start, just kept clicking. Logical thought, loose connector on the starter....no. Battery terminals.....no. Traced it to the positive fused terminal block for the starter. The fastener for the terminal tightens into a captive "nut" within the plastic and had worked loose. So instead of being able to tighten it, or just replace a nut etc he had to buy a new terminal block......Well done Ford.....

That’s rotten that filter mate the tor’s are inset into a 8mm bolt head and the big pipe on the left just pulls of no need to unclip
