  • Better longboard surfers told me to address this problem awhile ago and I didn't listen. Don't be like me! Enjoy!

    My fav. video of yours yet! Thank you for creating. Question - at 5:00 min mark you say to check your trim before bringing the back foot forward and there's an arrow that says notice trim adjustment (or something like that). Can you explain a little more what you did to subtly adjust? Did you put more pressure in your toe side rail, lean a bit, adjust feet in? It was hard to tell and those micro adjustments are so important but so hard to put into words! I am exactly the surfer you described who 70% of the time gets hung up on steps 3, 4. I'm going to play around with holding that 3rd step!

      Awesome you got it!
      Regarding the minute 5 mark, I don't know exactly what's happening, but I'm just adjusting the trim to make myself and the board stable. My point is you should be in balanced trim before taking the next step, even if that means stopping and adjusting your trim before taking that step.
      Let me know how holding that 3rd step works out! Sorry for the late response, life has been nuts over here!

      Same here.. the more I'm slowing things down the better i'm getting, but more importantly I'm having more fun hehe

    In all the slow motion close ups, especially front side, I noticed you are not loading the inside rail. Why is that ?

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  Рік тому

      by 'loading' I assume you mean 'engaging'? If that's the case, it's probably because i have the board pointing more towards the beach because i'm about to lose the wave. Let me konw if that makes sense

      @@LongboardSessions At the 3:24 mark you discuss about stepping smoothly to not upset the rail in the wave's face. In the accompanying drone shot, you bottom turn and walk to the nose mainly along the stringer. If your white board diagram is correct, then you should place your feet closest to where board and wave face intersect. By walking near the stringer, it causes more power to leverage the rail away from the wave. Walking to the LEFT of the stringer will LOAD the inside rail.

    Awesome video! You mentioned you need to wait an hr to wait for the waves to get better. I’m curious to hear your thought process on timing conditions (tide, location) at various spots. Would be super insightful!

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  Рік тому

      Thanks Alex! I think on this specific day I was waiting for the tide to get higher, but I don't remember exactly.
      That's a hard question to answer exactly, but basically I make a note (whether physical or mental) when the waves were good. I'll write down where I was, what the tide was, and the swell direction. When I see similar conditions in the forecast, I'll have a good idea of where to go. So I have certain low tide spots, certain high tide spots etc..
      But the biggest thing for me is i'm looking for more 'longboard friendly' waves. NJ is known for steep waves and I'm specifically trying to find flatter waves. This means messing around with high tides. Most surfers in NJ hate high tides, I love them! However, the waves have to be big enough for that so it depends on the swell.

    How are your boards glassed? How much do they weigh? Im surprised that you dont have more Subs, great channel. After seeing this vid i think of reducing my 10.5 glass on with one with less profile

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  Рік тому

      My board is pretty heavy. It's the traditional longboard glassing system.. i forget the exact oz.. maybe someone else can clarify that. 1 layer 6 oz bottom and two top? I forget how it works

    In my "Nov 17, 2022 Me Only" video I did the cross and hold drill (:08 and :26), and it's a great drill.
    Note that when you point and say "watch this next," it doesn't show up on my player. Maybe add link in description?
    I learn best from bad examples, so it's good to show the wrong way followed by the right way. Maybe you can intentionally create some bad vs. good vids.
