- Howdy Folks!
In this video I'm reviewing the Coleman Camp Oven. It's a fun a little piece of camp cooking gear and I put it to the test baking several small loaves of bread.
Watch the 2 part camping video going over all the gear, set up, and tear down from this adventure:

That bread turned out perfect. I could almost smell it. Enjoyed.
@@inthewind3675 thanks for watching! Definitely a fun piece of gear. I'll test it out on other foods in the future
Nice, 👍🤠
@@WilliamSeaman-h4b thanks!
I gotta telll ya, you are either lucky as hell or you are a master baker. haha! These ovens work great, but their is USUALLY a pretty steep learning curve. To get these results over a camp fire is truly amazing to me. I AM curious as to how smokey it tasted. Well done, indeed!
@@mikemorgan5015 well observed! I do a lot of baking at home so I at least have that going for me. I didn't notice much smokiness during the fresh taste test but going back for leftovers the next day I noticed quite a bit of smokey flavor (which would have been great if I'd used better wood). I plan to try again on a butane camp stove as well as campfire with nice clean wood. Great comment!
@@thegabeoutdoors84 Sounds right. I'm just guessing that being around the fires and your olfactory senses might have been a bit fatigued from the smoke, but that's just a guess. Again, impressive work!
@@mikemorgan5015 thank you!
You do seem to have a good bread recipe, because all those loaves looked delicious, and the stovetop oven baked very well! Good job.
@@chrissewell1608 thank you!
I have one of these and I have never used it but now I know the first thing I am going to make in it.
@@gwargumm9511 good luck! I'll be posting more videos using it so check back and let me know how your attempt turns out
Hello 🤗 New Subscriber here, im definitely going to buy this oven.

Good old fashioned oven bread
@@pakleader4 can't beat fresh bread!
I worked at a bakery! For the first two weeks it was All about the donuts and cakes!? Then came the extra Loaves of Warm Fresh Bread! Butter was scooped from the 25 ish pound Blocks!
Nothing Like Real Ingredients and Fresh!
@@mikeks8181 nothing beats fresh bread, that's for sure!
New follower that loved the video! I think you sold me on the oven. I checked and Amazon has them for about $55 or so. Do you think it would help if the door had a window? Keep up the GREAT work!
@@jailbaitandtackleoutdoors decent price on the oven. I don't know if a window would improve it, but it's sure a fun piece of gear. Thanks for watching and all that good stuff!
I think this would work well on a tent stove during winter camping
@@chadrossiter156 my thoughts exactly. I plan to test it out as the temps drop
What is your dough recipe?
@@francisagosh2175 to be honest I just wing-it. I use a high-gluten bread flour, salt, olive oil, spring water, dry active yeast... But quantities? Who knows!
@@thegabeoutdoors84 you just can’t guess, dough came out perfect
@@francisagosh2175 I've been making my own dough for awhile, you get a feel for it with practice.
Just use a good old Dutch oven your ganna run into the same problems with this as an old school Dutch oven but the Dutch oven has a coolness factor
@@texasrigged5875 some day I'll get a nice cast iron Dutch oven but for now this thing is getting the job done. Thanks for watching!
@@thegabeoutdoors84 good wills and garage sales name brand stuff for cheap!!!
Gotta get this out of the way, right from the start. YOU ROCKED THIS OVEN!!!
I'm almost 70 YO and these stoves have been around for most of my adult life and I never used one. They were designed to be used on the Coleman White Gas stoves, that have been around ALL of my adult life. UA-cam is full of folks of all ages, who have just "discovered" this stove, trying to bake with it as it was meant to be used, on a stove top of one kind or another. Who could blame them, right? They don't usually have much luck to start with and they usually get better results as they learn to make some adjustments and then they always seem to come to a point where they add things to nudge up the results even more. They'll add a square of ceramic tile to the bottom to keep from burning the underside of things. Or they'll fabricate carbon felt panels to wrap the outside with to hold heat in or keep out air. Some change their bakeware. I have seen them all. I did them all and still haven't actually used mine. Weird, huh?
Just kept looking for the guy that got the technique perfect before I gave it a go. You're that damn guy and I can't believe you did it by using the oven "incorrectly" and with just aluminum foil as the bakeware. I've never seen anyone, and I have watched a sh*t ton of videos, that just put it over a wood fire. I'm truly impressed. Very good video, young man and I will be sharing it and referring it to anyone that I see struggling to use this thing. I'll be watching for more.
@@mrhalfstep wow! What an incredible comment, thank you!
