Firstly, thank you. I never knew this. I actually really wanted a MagSafe battery pack and was holding out for the September event thinking they’d get upgraded to USB-C. When they didn’t I was annoyed and just went to my Apple Store on the Friday and just purchased one. Never knew they were being made extinct. I did notice I purchased the last one and it wasn’t on the shelf tho… So basically in the space of a week I’ve purchased two dead products. 13 Mini and MagSafe pack 😂🤷🏽♂️
I absolutely adore the magsafe duo and despite its price, it’s one of the few first party accessories that I find that’s truly worth the price as it’s hard to find reliable alternatives with the same quality and versatility. Might pick another one up for the cheap in case my first one dies.
Great Vid. Well done. Ihave the 13promax. And the Anker 5k mag charge is the bomb. Its nver gottn hot, and I can mag charge phone or charge by cord, Off the battery. And with phone completely dead, battery will recharge to 100% In about 45min. The magnet is strong and attaches really well. And it wsnt $100. I bought it on a special day in July for $35.00. And tht ws about 2yrs ago. It still goin strong. And its charged off usb-c.😉
FYI they did not move over to USB C because they give a f, it’s because Europe has updated the standards on all chargeable devices to have USB C to be able to sell in europe. Europe also set a date on when every phone has to have a replaceable batterie that your grandma can do without unscrewing the phone, I think it’s sometimes around 2027.
MagSafe Duo is phenomenal, absolutely love it for traveling. I have the Anker cube you show but it’s not necessarily the most travel friendly. Also the AirPods Pro were actually updated for use with the Vision Pro, which is why you can’t just buy a new case.
I wish that Apple would sunset accessories like these instead of just making them suddenly vanish from the store. Give people who were on the fence about something that kick of “final warning: if you were interested then make up your mind and get it now or forever hold your peace”.
Great video, thanks for addressing this topic! I love both products, hope that they eventually have usbc versions or something better is created to replace them. I only use my duo to charge my watch and AirPods overnight so I could care less about phone fitment or qi 1 charge speeds. Will be keeping both for now. The duo needing a lightning cable is a little inconvenient but not the end of the world, you could probably find a lighting to usbc adapter somewhere. As many others here have said, the magsafe battery pack not having usbc is a non-issue, it can be reverse charged via your phone.
Great, interesting video, first one of yours I have viewed. Impressed with the fast pace, clear delivery, packed full of info and no gimmicks. Good stuff. Subscribed.
Apple magsafe battery pack is the best for most users; however, most users do not know how it is supposed to be used. It is meant to go on your iphone and sit there all day. The software is key. It only charges your iphone when your iphone needs a little extra juice. It doesn't just charge and charge, wasting its capacity and damaging your internal battery. It also doesn't charge when your phone gets hot. It is efficient in these ways so it can be a smaller capacity. It can be reverse wirelessly charged so if you have your iphone plugged in (whether that is an iphone 15 or older), your battery will charge as well. All you need is one cord. It is expensive but for me it was worth it. I hope they come out with an updated version that has usb c, can be charged via magsafe, etc. Imagine your iphone being connected to the battery pack and on the other side, the battery pack is connected to a magsafe charger. Both getting charged at the same time overnight with optimized charging or whatever. You wouldn't need a cord at all.
I used mine today with my iPhone 15 pro max. I use the 80% max charge feature. Had it on the phone from 8am until it said it was dead at 6:30pm. My battery is at 77%.
Excellent video but to be honest the battery pack never worked great for me, but I do love the Duo and still use! For the first time in years I’m skipping the upgrade for IPhone 15 and waiting until next year and keep Using the IPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB & Ultra Watch which still is amazing!
I‘m using the battery pack every day.. can‘t understand why people don‘t like it.. they even use it wrong, they think it‘s a powerbank while it‘s a battery EXTENDER.. hope they bring it back with USB-C
the thing that's really good about the MagSafe Battery Pack is that it doesn't charge that quickly--no, seriously. While charging quickly is obviously great, wirelessly charging quickly generates a lot of heat, which is not good when it's hot outside and the phone you're using overheats quickly (i.e. my old iPhone 12 mini)
I’m predicting the MagSafe battery pack and MagSafe duo will launch at a spring event early next year. If I had to guess Apple didn’t want to flood a ton of new product updates all at once but did want to get rid of lightning iPhone accessories. Perhaps at a spring event we could see a 2nd gen AirTag with the updates ultrawide for better precision as it did feel sort of weird they bragged about the updated ultrawide but the AirTags ,which is the main product you find ultrawide functionality in, is still running on the old chip from the iPhone 11. Seems like they’d want to show off a much bigger range like they did with the find my iPhone ultrawide where it showed 70+ ft instead of the AirTags 30ft max.
As much as I would like things like the magic mouse and keyboard to be USB-C, I suspect it will be a while before Apple makes that switch because they will want to get as much money out of the lightning cables as possible before having to retire them
i own a magsafe battery pack and im happy with it charges up to 40% of my pro max which is 4 hours of use and it doesn't drop battery when not in use, i didn't use it for 2 months almost and it was still 100% battery so it is 100% worth iti, i was considering magsafe duo for my apple watch and airpods , but im not sure if i will commit to it i have magsafe charger for iphone that i never use, but considering it is going away im even more interested in buying one, idc if it charges slowly it brings me 2 benefits, showing me time and putting my watch somewhere, and charging my airpods also with one wire, plus soon i will buy airpods pro 2 so i will own 2 pairs, so thanks for making this video, in 2 months at earlyest i will buy it, this and next month i have renovations.
are there any magsafe batteries that also can be charged wirelessly, apple magsafe battery couldnt charge on its own wirelessly, i was wondering if you knew if one that does that also fits a iphone 13 mini?
@@beardfm oh, that sucks, im trying to embrace a life of never plugging in my phone or any small rechargeable peripherals, i look forward to it one day, i have a 12 pro max and a 13 mini that have never has a cord plugged into them not once, im sick of those ports dying and how slow and dated lightning is either way.
The MagSafe battery (and all wireless batteries) are kindof dubious as a concept. I like mine, but for the size and weight, a wired pack would have double the capacity and double the charging speed. It’s good to slip in a pocket for a full day of messing with your phone (good for travel) but it takes quite a while to impart a charge, and it is only good for ONE ~80% charge. With a wired pack, you could have multiple charges with a few 10 minute plug-in sessions.
Didn't even know that the magsafe battery pack was discontinued; was waiting to pick one up on Black Friday from Best Buy or Amazon for my 12 mini but when I checked I found none on Amazon Canada and only one remaining at my local Best Buy! I picked it up from them just in time, so thanks for the heads up! Local Apple Store has none btw, as expected for a discontinued item.
@@beardfm I ended up returning it! It lost charge ridiculously fast while not being used, so it couldn't be counted on to have enough charge when needed. Plus, the led light that only flashes amber or green depending on whether it's charging or finished charging, but doesn't stay on in either case, means you're always wondering about the battery pack's state of charge (unless you're staring at the battery the whole time it's being charged, you could easily miss the green light flash that indicates it's fully charged!). The only way to truly tell is to periodically attach it to the phone while it's being charged and use the battery widget, which is a hassle. One of the more stupidly design electronic gadgets I've tried in a long while; no wonder it was discontinued by Apple!
From personal experience the MagSafe battery not only DID get hot when I was simultaneously using my phone but it also barely charged it. It was near impossible during summer for my phone to get charged. Of course when I wasn’t using my phone it charged fine, but then again you were better off buying a 15 buck power bank and charge your phone with a lighting cable bcuz it was much faster and actually charged your phone even if you were using it. The idea of MagSafe is really good being able to use your phone without a cable dangling from your pocket to it but the actual product wasn’t even worth 100 bucks like I honestly felt like I was scammed from buying an overpriced and less effective powerbank.
The Smart Battery pack just got me through a full three weeks in Japan charging it up every night - never ran out of battery or felt any battery stress even doing long 12+ hours of navigation, camera use, music listening, and much much more. I hope they killed it off to follow it up with something better, but I'll be holding onto mine for a while.
For all the flak that Magsafe battery pack got, I think everybody forgets that this is the only battery pack that doesn’t stop charging the phone due to heat. I’ve tried other magsafe battery packs and it stops charging frequently due to the phone being hot.
I bought the MagSafe Battery Pack before I even read any reviews of it. I was bummed when I went online and saw so many people absolutely trashing it. Almost three years later, it has charged my phone every single day. I slap it on the back on my, now, 14 Pro when I hop into bed and that's it. Also, I take it on flights and road trips, etc. It's been phenomenally easy to use and now in 2024 I wonder what all the fuss was about. Sad to see it go.
I def see the battery pack returning w usb-C before the end of 2023. Apple has sold an external battery pack/case for most of its models since the iPhone 6 I find it hard to believe they won’t continue to cash in.
My wife using USBC and me having lightning is gonna be such a pain in the ass when traveling. And I’m not excited about android people asking to use my charger either! Lmao I wish they made the change years ago before we bought AirPods with lightning ports.
Verizon was selling both of these for 25% off after Apple removed them both. I was able to snag a battery pack and it’s been amazing for my 13 mini. Definitely feels like people that hated on it weren’t using it correctly because for me it’s been absolutely perfect and doesn’t get hot at all

Love them both. Battery pack is so small and handy. Always take mine with me when using the phone as a hotspot which always drains the phone battery. Plus also handy to charge my AirPods too.
I have a iPhone 15, USB-C AirPods Pro and a M1 MBA. That's a quite nice combination, particular with an usbc external monitor. I hope the apple magic keyboard and the magic mouse are coming soon in an usb-c version.
I really want them to bring back the smart battery case. I’ve currently got it on my iPhone XS and I get around 24 hours of charge. The MagSafe battery just doesn’t seem like a seamless product compared to the battery case. It’s the only thing holding me back from upgrading
@@beardfm it’s great, it’s one package, and doesn’t slide off. Not to mention it’s faster at charging and you can charge both of the devices at once with fast charging. The MagSafe battery pack is slow and for you to get the same performance as the battery case I’d assume you’d have to charge both individually rather than just charging the case, as the bottleneck is the wireless charging.
Couple Notes: 1) "Qi 1" can support 15W, it's called the Qi-EPP (Extended Power Profile). It could actually support up to 30W (though as far as I know nothing actually utilized that high of a wattage), Apple just chose to support Qi up to 7.5W and limit 15W behind their MFI / MagSafe system. Sony and Motorola phones, for example, support 15W via Qi-EPP. Google and Asus support 12W. 2) The reason the Apple Magsafe battery doesn't get so hot is it charges your phone at a slower speed (as a wireless charging powerbank should). Wireless charging generates heat, as does drawing power from batteries can converting voltages, so a powerbank should charge slower than a standalone wireless charger. But none of the third party manufacturers can control themselves and basically all support the max 7.5W an iPhone can accept over Qi. Hell, many of them actually support higher than that for some reason, meaning if you use one of these Magnetic Qi powerbanks with an Android phone they can get scary hot as they output even more power. I tested some with my Pixel phone which supports 12W and the power banks which didn't turn themselves off after a few minutes felt like they were going to melt.
I love magsafe duo but not the battery pack. Honestly I don’t care about the reverse charging ability. It just doesn’t have enough juice, it was at most keeping my iPhone at the same charge and sometimes does reverse charge unexpectedly. I like simple products, if I get a powerbank, it should charge my phone, not the other way around. I bought Anker’s battery pack and handed off my Apple battery pack to a friend. I’m pretty happy with it
It seems that Apple has been facing some issues in bringing new products to market lately. A few products appear to be lagging behind, either in adopting new technology or in production.
Apple has always been slow to adopt new standards, like USB-C, and it may be they're culling some devices that aren't as popular (like these) to focus on Apple Vision Pro and the like
Guy declares that Apple's battery pack was overpriced...... Then literally goes on to list why it was better than cheaper third party options.. After about 20 year's, I'm tired of people declaring that an item that no one has to buy is overpriced. Apple has never been a budget consumer products company. Imagine someone buying a Porsche and then stating it's overpriced because Honda's exist. This is what people do every single day with Apple and it makes zero sense.
They didn't offer a separate USB-C case this time around because the case is tied to Find My now. The OG Airpods case was just a vehicle to store and charge them. Now the 2 airpods and case are all 3 together in Find My. Unregistering one of the devices unregisters all 3 devices.
PIcked up the last Magsafe Battery Amazon had just now. It's for my Fiancée who has a habit of just not charing stuff. I figured the price is over doubled but if she would fail to charge her phone often enough there is no way she is going to charge a second device attached to the phone.
Lighting & Magsafe are still way more reliable then USB-C! USB-C is better than Micro yes does not beat lighting they only did it due to EU being a douch and making it a standard for the country. Btw you are not prouncing. Qi2 correctly.
I was watching another YTer who tested Qi2 vs Qi and found that after initial boost in charging rate it was managed down to about the same output. Why pay the premium for a small performance gain. My Anker or Morphie never got hot when charging in my pocket.
In Asia. We laugh at this product. 3x. More expensive than the next best option….. no. Asians are a little more pragmatic about the Apple distortion field ……Asia. Represents more than half the world’s population btw….

I did notice I purchased the last one and it wasn’t on the shelf tho…
So basically in the space of a week I’ve purchased two dead products. 13 Mini and MagSafe pack 😂🤷🏽♂️
they fit great together though!
good picks!
Beth beloved by many, so you may have made the right decision!
Anker has one with usbc
@@helantopia ugreen too
I absolutely adore the magsafe duo and despite its price, it’s one of the few first party accessories that I find that’s truly worth the price as it’s hard to find reliable alternatives with the same quality and versatility. Might pick another one up for the cheap in case my first one dies.
I’ve had two since launch and it’s been great. Still the most compact MagSafe charger for two devices
I travel frequently for work and I love the duo! Hoping they bring it back with the fast charge for the Apple Watch
There are dongles available in the Apple store to connect to the USBC cords with a lightning end. Problem solved.
We own 3 of them in my house. Fantastic charger. Two of them get used for travel. Way overpriced but still worth it imo.
I bought another one
No, they knowingly developed these soon-to-be-tossed-away products to save the Mother Earth 😂
That was a looong skit in the middle of the event…
Great Vid.
I'm not an Apple user, but the simple solution is a lightning to usb c adapter...the world is not coming to end because of Apple going usb c… LOL
I use Anker 321 5000mah battery pack, it has temperature sensors that help managing heat during charging.
The MagSafe Duo is perfect for me for travel. I only really charge my phone and watch overnight so having a slim charger was super convenient.
FYI they did not move over to USB C because they give a f, it’s because Europe has updated the standards on all chargeable devices to have USB C to be able to sell in europe.
Europe also set a date on when every phone has to have a replaceable batterie that your grandma can do without unscrewing the phone, I think it’s sometimes around 2027.
i have ambrane pb magsafe charger which doesn't get hot and it is a great device for the price also usb c and only 35$ in india 😂
I HAVE A DUO! *need to fix my watch* I need a buy a MagSafe Pack online but I have a 14 PM💜 I heard it’ll
Only give like 40% or so in total,
Love the magsafe battery. Comes in handy when you're traveling and need to use directions even for walking all day.
that s kinda my use case, also shooting videos, is battery pack enough on 12 pro max? Also, how it's been after 8 months since you commented?
MagSafe Duo is phenomenal, absolutely love it for traveling. I have the Anker cube you show but it’s not necessarily the most travel friendly.
Also the AirPods Pro were actually updated for use with the Vision Pro, which is why you can’t just buy a new case.
How does a charging case affect the Vision Pro?
I wish that Apple would sunset accessories like these instead of just making them suddenly vanish from the store. Give people who were on the fence about something that kick of “final warning: if you were interested then make up your mind and get it now or forever hold your peace”.
True! They did that with the OG HomePod… maybe that means an update *is* coming but just isn’t ready 🤔
@@beardfmexactly what I thought too!
I want a nice stand or mat from apple like AirPower I don’t do third party on anything lol
I will be using the reverse charging for battery pack, good point!
saw one of the reason on twitter/X on why magsafe duo was discontinued is cause the iphone 15 pro can't fit on it 😭
Great, interesting video, first one of yours I have viewed. Impressed with the fast pace, clear delivery, packed full of info and no gimmicks. Good stuff. Subscribed.
Really appreciate that 🙏🏻
Apple magsafe battery pack is the best for most users; however, most users do not know how it is supposed to be used.
Probably wise! Next year is supposedly the big update for Apple Watch Series X so will be a good time to upgrade then.
Agreed! It was the only one I found that didn’t get crazy hot
I was just looking for it and couldn’t find it they don’t make them anymore 😢
They’ve discontinued them! Shame. Qi2 chargers should be coming soon though
I’m hoping so. Or even just a quiet Re entry into the store with USB-C…
Do they need 2nd Gen Airtags? The iPhone 15 can point to you
Airtags 3x faster.
As much as I would like things like the magic mouse and keyboard to be USB-C, I suspect it will be a while before Apple makes that switch because they will want to get as much money out of the lightning cables as possible before having to retire them
Can you imagine how much of a stockpile they have of those ports?
MagSafe duo doesn't properly fit the iPhone 15 Pro. 99% sure about this. I wonder if the battery wouldn't fit either... 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Will be testing when I get it, but the Apple Watch Ultra already struggled on the Duo!
Remember the MagSafe battery pack will wirelessly charge off the iPhone so if you only have a usb c cable you can still charge
True! And I’ll keep my battery pack around
My MagSafe Battery Pack gets hot AF and stop charging as I use my 12Mini for 10 minutes. All that at room temperature (22c). Horrible experience tbh
It’s probably the 12 mini no the batter pack.
i own a magsafe battery pack and im happy with it charges up to 40% of my pro max which is 4 hours of use and it doesn't drop battery when not in use, i didn't use it for 2 months almost and it was still 100% battery so it is 100% worth iti, i was considering magsafe duo for my apple watch and airpods , but im not sure if i will commit to it i have magsafe charger for iphone that i never use, but considering it is going away im even more interested in buying one, idc if it charges slowly it brings me 2 benefits, showing me time and putting my watch somewhere, and charging my airpods also with one wire, plus soon i will buy airpods pro 2 so i will own 2 pairs, so thanks for making this video, in 2 months at earlyest i will buy it, this and next month i have renovations.
500 dollars for headphones 🎧??? I hope those are made in Japan or Germany 😒
dude can you fanboi harder?
I would go to usb c iPhone once they allow super fast charging. Until then the 14 pro max is better
are there any magsafe batteries that also can be charged wirelessly, apple magsafe battery couldnt charge on its own wirelessly, i was wondering if you knew if one that does that also fits a iphone 13 mini?
Hey there! I'd love a battery like that too but I haven't found one that exists yet.
I like my apple battery back I just can shake it all I want and it stays on, my mophie battery pack falls off with one shake
Yes it definitely stays on better than most other battery packs
The MagSafe battery (and all wireless batteries) are kindof dubious as a concept. I like mine, but for the size and weight, a wired pack would have double the capacity and double the charging speed. It’s good to slip in a pocket for a full day of messing with your phone (good for travel) but it takes quite a while to impart a charge, and it is only good for ONE ~80% charge.
With a wired pack, you could have multiple charges with a few 10 minute plug-in sessions.
Wired completely defeats the purpose. If people had access to an outlet when they needed juice, what would be the purpose of the battery pack??
@@chris7077 …a wired battery pack, that you connect with a usb cable…
@@chris7077Uh, you can use the wired battery pack without an outlet.
Phew made it in under the wire! I still use mine regularly
And they all get much hotter than Apple’s
Erm… it always stops charging when hot. Additionally it discharges while using the phone
I still use my MagSafe duo on my 15 Pro Max and Ultra watches. The ultra fits perfectly
You don't have to bend it back at all? I still use mine occasionally too and it certainly works!
@@beardfm not bent one bit
I bought the MagSafe Battery Pack before I even read any reviews of it. I was bummed when I went online and saw so many people absolutely trashing it. Almost three years later, it has charged my phone every single day. I slap it on the back on my, now, 14 Pro when I hop into bed and that's it. Also, I take it on flights and road trips, etc. It's been phenomenally easy to use and now in 2024 I wonder what all the fuss was about. Sad to see it go.
I still use mine too! Hoping Apple updates it with USB-C
I def see the battery pack returning w usb-C before the end of 2023. Apple has sold an external battery pack/case for most of its models since the iPhone 6 I find it hard to believe they won’t continue to cash in.
Thank you for letting me know about Qi2, I almost bought a UGreen 10k mAh Mafsafe, it claims to be 15W for wireless but is Qi1 :(
Awesome video! Yep, kinda knew this was coming, the 'transition' phase hahah. Still glad USB-C is finally here!!
Thanks! And I'm glad for USB-C (finally) too!
Definitely feels like people that hated on it weren’t using it correctly because for me it’s been absolutely perfect and doesn’t get hot at all
Same, bought 1 for mini 13, congrats on the sweet price, if I had known I would have waited 2 weeks for better price 😅 but yea it seems made for the mini
😳 "WROOOONG!!!! 🙄.......The "BEST" is (Mophie) magsafe powerstation Type C 5,000 mAH dual charger at $59.99/$49.99 ☝️😁....And the (Mophie Magsafe Powerstation 3+1 port Pack at $89/$75.99 ✌️😁....APPLE= EPIC FAIL!!!" 👎 😶
I'm so glad I went to a 3rd party battery back. Anker Magnetic Battery 20w usb-c. 10,000mAh
I just bought a new Magsafe Duo on a discount. The fuck does it matter if it's connected by lightning? The other end is USB-C already anyway!
Same! Maybe with an M2 or M3 iMac this month or next...
I really want them to bring back the smart battery case. I’ve currently got it on my iPhone XS and I get around 24 hours of charge. The MagSafe battery just doesn’t seem like a seamless product compared to the battery case. It’s the only thing holding me back from upgrading
Love of people want th battery case back for sure.
I despise that they stopped making their battery cases. Only to push less effective mafsafe accessories
The reason: They didn't, they'll refresh them with USB-C soon.
Couple Notes:
1) "Qi 1" can support 15W, it's called the Qi-EPP (Extended Power Profile).
Apple has always been slow to adopt new standards, like USB-C, and it may be they're culling some devices that aren't as popular (like these) to focus on Apple Vision Pro and the like
@@beardfm well, I wouldn’t say always. Laptops, FireWire and original USB come to mind. Also I’d hope a $3T company can multitask.
They need to bring back an Apple battery case.
People loved the battery case! Personally I like the MagSafe battery for flexibility and ease of on/off
PIcked up the last Magsafe Battery Amazon had just now. It's for my Fiancée who has a habit of just not charing stuff. I figured the price is over doubled but if she would fail to charge her phone often enough there is no way she is going to charge a second device attached to the phone.
I still love mine so great snag!
You forgot one more thing about MagSafe battery pack, it’s size
This battery matches with iPhone mini, but now Apple can make it bigger, because there is no more iPhone mini
Oh that’d be nice!
The MagSafe Duo is still my go-to travel Watch and AirPods charger and I always carry it in my work bag.
It's so light and compact, will miss it!
Everything been usb c by the way I brought a iPad and MacBook before I got the 15
Apple MagSafe Duo is available on Amazon! I got mine not long ago from there.
