I feel like they made this product as a first step to dropping the charging port on the iphone. Like they dropped the headphone jack.
This is 100 percent what Apple is doing. It doesn’t feel very Apple-like to have a USB C port on the iPhone 13.
Hope Apple doesn’t drop it for IPhone 13. We aren’t at that stage where portless will work.
Obviously lmao
@@cityplanner3063 yeah we are
I think that would be a mistake on their part to force users to wireless data transfer only. Also would be a major negative hit to wired CarPlay vehicles but maybe they’d sell an official wireless adapter if they did that. That would be kinda nice.
Actually, you CAN remove the charger by only ONE HAND: just hold it, use your index finger to push it from one side to the other, and once it is no longer in the center, it pops off!!
I just posted a similar comment. This method also saves some wear and tear on the cable for those who have been pulling on the cord to remove it.
And most important for me... Some how I always mess up the charging port on my phones. So with wireless charging that won’t happened.
I came to say the same thing.
I’ve always used one hand to remove it.. I have no idea what he is even talking about.
Yea I use one finger to remove myself. This video is just bullshit Apple hating.
You can actually push MagSafe to the side to disconnect it. You don’t need 2 hands at all.
I love how the biggest complaint in this video isn't something inherent in the wireless charging or magsafe design just literally Apple being dumb about something that could have very easily at basically no cost been made better (slightly longer or detachable cable)
@Mutombe Apple is too clever for us mere mortals to understand
Here’s one hack: I used 2-sided tape to tape it down on the table or whatever. Bam! don’t need two hands anymore.
This is what I'm planning on doing when I get the magsafe charger
Here is another hack: a mobile phone is called like that because you can take it with you , let’s say on vacation ... the charger would be a good idea to have it with you too... but hey, it’s “glued” to the table .... too bad
@@tudorstanciu6588 Two sided tape is different than glue duh 🙄

I’m a year late and then few, but I really wanted to say thank you for including captions! A lot of tech reviewers don’t include captions, which is so weird and frustrating. I can hear just fine, but really feel that having captions make it easier for me to look out (literally) for the details I’m interested in.
Thank you!
I try to add them with my scripted videos and sometimes I pay to have them added on others but I miss some now and then.
Planning on getting one of these to use as a car charger so that I can keep my aux cord plugged in. Kind of pricey but when you compare it to the price of traditional wireless car chargers that mount to vents or the dash, it evens out. I have had numerous issues with traditional wireless car chargers.
This is exactly why i want it. To charge and still be able to plug and play
why the f are you using aux over Bluetooth?
Went to Ross to look for the cheap counter item products, found a car phone mount. It even chargers your phone and works really well all for 12 bucks. Something cheap and simple would suit you better.
OK, this started out OK, and then became ridiculous. I use mine at my desk with no issue. The cable could be longer, but it's no issue for me. If any of these weird issues affect you, don't get one - plenty of alternatives, but most of this is nonsense.
I can see both views
I've had magsafe for a couple weeks and I can easily remove it with one hand.
I was about to say the same thing but figured that there might be loads of comments on that

So is it a wireless charger?
Maybe he’s just weak
One major benefit of Magsafe vs wired charger: wired charging plugs can be finicky because they can get clocked with dust and gunk and then you can't charge your phone at all! Better to have at least the ability to charge your phone via Magsafe. Not saying your complaints aren't valid, but I can still see the value of this item.
I never had that problem ever with wired chargers
@@GreatGrandmasterWang I did. I had to wiggle the cord and hold it in a particular position to work. I tried a different Apple cable - same problem. I tried an electronic parts spray cleaner - nope. So, I just bought a MagSafe charger and the problem is solved.
Don't do apple bro
Fair points, but you can also use an extension cord for your power adapter. Also, if you use a multiport charger that connects to the outlet with a cord, it also solves the problem with having to be really close to an outlet. Good points about having to use both hands to remove it…magsafe seems to be better suited for stationary docks.
That's what I did, I bought a little cable extender and it works well with the charger.

Sometimes u have to improvise! Get an extension cord. The charger allows you to orient the cord where you want it. The magnets’ keep charger attached to phone securely while moving phone. All in all a good setup for hands on during charging.
Thanks for the video. I was considering trying the magsafe charger but you make some very valid points... enough to keep me from getting one.
They should have made it with a usb c port, so you could change the length of the cord.
Sum valid points ?💀 you can’t be serious
One option: embed it in a table. That way, it’ll clip on and off your phone fairly easily. Of course, designing a piece of furniture to use a specific puck that might not work with the next gadget Apple decide you need is rather insane.
lol
Let's not forget, not everyone owns a router to route the pocket needed to put the puck into the table...I mean I guess you could do it with a knife if you were really that desperate? I mean, everyone has a knife right ?

Thank you for the heads up! I was going to use it as a mount for my car to charge while I'm driving.
To me the benefit is not having to use usb cord 3 of my iPhones charging port have gotten lose and stopped working. Also I have used wireless chargers before and it’s super annoying when you place it overnight and because it wasn’t in specific spot it didn’t charge.
Honestly the only reason why I’d invest in MagSafe at this point is for the Belkin charging stand. It would consolidate the two power bricks I plug into my outlet, and make a nice nightstand piece. I probably would seldom use the MagSafe puck on its own. Honestly a 30W brick and a decent Anker cable is the way to go!
Agree with all of that.
I love how your videos are so honest!
I returned mine because the cable was way too short.
Very much appreciated!
The magsafe charger also leaves circle burn marks around the magnets or where the apple logo is. It also leaves burn marks on the apple leather case and silicone
You actually told the truth about how you feel about this! How refreshing. Nice to watch an honest video w/o being interrupted with a sponsorship info of stuff that's completely unrelated. The hallway fiasco was pretty funny! Love that you took a side instead of hmming and hawwing. Thanks! Thumbs upp'ed.
Simple solution: just put double sided tape on it and stick it to your desk. That's what I did. Works great in my home office. I prefer the magsafe charger over other wireless chargers because it's faster and, as you said, the magnets ensure that it's always alligned correctly.
That being said, I agree that it's a bit annoying that it sticks to your phone (if you don't use my solution). If you want a charger to bring around with you and don't mind the cable getting in the way then I would probably just get a regular wired charger..
Grovemade has a cool solution for this as well it has a holder for the charger and stands your phone upright at an angle
what double tape did you use if you don't mind me asking
@@kesiahruiz2894 Personally I used Gorilla tape. It's never going to come up with my phone. Way over kill though
Now I have to buy double sided tape too ?!
@@kefler187 and scissors or blade to cut the tape😂
I saw the MagSafe charger as a direct replacement to the lightning cable, *not* wireless charging pads. People haven't ever gone on and on about why lighting cables are too short or require two hands, so I'm confused as to why this accessory is being held to a different standard?
What have you seen people say that was positive about the charger?
Making fun of apple gets views.
If it is a direct replacement for lightning then how can you justify the additional cost?
@@JerrySchulze The same way we justified AirPods from EarPods. Maybe one day Apple says no more lightening port.
Things change over time especially on the tech side, and it’s not like people paying extra for products from a premium brand like Apple is a secret.
@@kaydens6964 I have not problem paying apple prices. I just don't understand this item.
Hiii! As a first time iphone user and having the iphone 13 pro, I'm so happy I came across your video!! I was actually planning to buy this (together with the power adapter brick and wire thingy for the earphones) cause I thought it would be convenient and whatnot, now I realize I dont even need it! Plus it would really save me more money! So THANK YOU!!! 🥰
The wireless benefit is setting it down with ease, not picking it up since taking off a wire doesn’t require looking for a port or a wire. I don’t think that’s a big that you need two hands to unplug. Instead, it’s a feature because you can use your phone while it charges unlike a regular wireless charger.
The benefit I see is cable orientation for wired charging. I tend to set my phone upright on a table or my chest when I lay down, I can’t do that plugged into the lightning port.
Hey Jerry thanks for the video, I was looking up stuff about MagSafe charging and was curious if I was missing anything over the lightning to usb C since the case I bought isn't magsafe compatible.
Anyway I picked up an Anker 33w dual port charger from walmart today, the usb c port is 18w and the usb a port is 15w. According to Apple support documentation, i should be good for fast charging. It says 18w and better, and it says third party chargers with usb power delivery, and the usb c port is marked with PD. I just upgraded 2 days ago to an iPhone 12 pro Max from a 7 plus.
The other benefit I've already found with the Anker Charger is, it can also charge my iPad air 2 at the same time as the new phone, and I don't need to use the separate iPad charger now.
So, i actually got more from Anker, than I would have from Apple for about the same price.
That is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
I am looking at buying this, there seems to be a lot of similar products as well, you have to buy the MagSafe cable separately but it makes it simple to remove.
Also, 3-feet is the standard size for 2-reasons, it’s used for I/O to a computer, that’s what an iPhone is. 2nd, it’s for performance, longer cables are for things like printers that usually use batch processing.
Also, the new Pro Max provides 28-hours of video playback, so I doubt many will need to game and charge at the same time.
You are absolutely right. I’ve returned mine. Now thinking about belkin 3 in one. Would you please review this. Many thanks!
Great vid! I don’t have the 12 but still super informative and great info 🤗
Thank you!!!
Nice. Never thought of those issues you mentioned. Seems the benefits don’t outweigh the inconveniences.
Doesn’t look like it for me.
My application is that I want to connect it to a stand and use it for work at my desk. It easier to just pull it than to unplug constantly. My situation is unique though and I think its worth it for people using it at a desk or attached to a charging station where it doesn't require 2 hands to pull apart.
I double sided taped mine to my night stand so I can still see notifications and it still unlocks with Face ID love it
My black silicone case already discolored it. If UA-cam is running, it will not charge and still get hot. I’m not too happy with it.
Wait, it won't charge when you are using it?
Haha well gaming or UA-cam the phone gets too hot and the charge will sit at 84%. Also holding the metal puck with the phone is heavier than a wire. Im pretty sure I’m returning the MagSafe ha
Thanks for the info.
No problem!
I have not had an issue with charging and gaming at all some have mentioned. As long as your using an official apple 20w charger charging while gaming. An this was with CODM, pubg, N GENSHIN IMPACT ON HIGHEST SETTINGS.. IN OTHER WORDs apple chargers only.
Precisely and very helpful for my decisions. Thank you!
Glad it helped
Yeah, I agree with the fact that it is mostly unnecessary to spend those money for it.
I thought the same thing, if you just could drop the iPhone without the need of separating it from its magnet the it was another thing. But so I don’t see any difference.
But I’m sure they will do it more properly for the future.
This was a funny well informed review. Enjoyed the sarcastic examples and the straight to the point summary. 👍🏾
“If ur willing to spend $40”... then goes on and recommends u get 30 Watt adapter plus long usb c cord*
You can definitely slide the puck off w/ one hand🤦🏾♂️
My truck has a 120v outlet just under the display screen. I keep the anker cube and magsafe plugged in all the time. It’s pretty convenient as well. Connect my phone, lay it on my console while I drive, done. The three foot cord is actually perfect for vehicle applications. The 120v outlet doesn’t stay powered up when the truck is off like the regular car charging port does so I don’t worry about battery draining issues. When I’m not using it, I just slide the puck In between the middle console seat to keep it out of the sun. I have one for the house but I rarely use it since the 12 pro max holds a charge for a good while.
Nice! I have been trying to find a way to rig it up in my 2020 Ram. Tried a few things but nothing stable yet.
Can you use the double-sided 3M adhesive tape? So it will stick to the table while removing it off?
Was going to order it but glad I watched your video...Thanks!
Hope it was helpful, was fun to make.
Some other chargers do actually work at full speed, with PD 9V / 2.2A. On Apple's own page they also say it supports 9V / 3A. May require PD 3.0 though - but it's standard, doesn't need Apple's charger, just has to support this charging profile in PD 3.0.
Thank you for your honest opinion! I was trying to find a reason to buy this because it is a nice gadget in the first place but comes short when it comes to delivering what it needs to. When I am in bed on my phone and I go to sleep, locking in the magsafe if way easyer I guess. But the short cord and high price … The video I needed! Thank you
I think the magnet is pretty neat yes you have to put in a little more work to take it off the phone but you can be on your phone laying down without worrying about it falling off so I like it. And you don’t have to worry about the problem of getting shortages due to bending from having it on your chest or table while charging and scrolling through your phone. To me it’s saving money from constantly buying chargers every 3 months.
Surely if you’re buying new chargers (portable battery packs?) every few months then you’re buying the worst performing brands/models?I’ve had my ankers for at least 4 years and still going strong
I was thinking of getting a MagSafe charger for my room when I’m laying down it should be good there but this guy made excellent points it would suck if it’s your every day charger that u have in your bag to take every where in case your iPhone dies
And buying multiple of these for your house or office would kind of suck if u always have to pull it off a regular wireless charger would be better then
I agree, and not to mention i would be careful about what comes in contact with the puck because of the magnets inside them. Like other electronics or something with a magnetic strip. Maybe not strong enough to do anything, but why chance it.
I use mine just like I would use a normal charging cable. but being a wireless charger means i can move the cord while holding the phone to keep it out of the way and I don't kill my battery. its also very easy to remove with one hand...
I found this vid very entertaining as well as informative thx
Glad you enjoyed!
These items listed here are my very sentiments exactly regarding the MagSafe charger --- along with the fact that the charger does not work if you use certain cases on your device. I have the 12 Pro Max, and purchased a protective case with a 'pull-out ring' in the back that allows you to easily hold the phone etc. But my MagSafe does not work while that case is on the phone. Yes, I know there are some cases out there that are MagSafe compatible.
However, in spite of these issues, I think the MagSafe does have potential, since you can use either an extension cord and solve the short-cord issue; and 3rd Party manufacturers may soon release 6-foot and 10-foot cord MagSafe chargers anyway, so I don't see that aspect as being a huge deal since it is easily solvable. Anyway, I'm not a fan of MagSafe for many of the reasons you listed....but I know the potential of the technology since it could also be applied to data transfer as well. I think it's a technology that simply isn't being used to its full potential just as yet. But if the MagSafe was able to work regardless of whatever protective-case is being used on the phone, it would be closer to phenomenal.
Man, am impressed how you thought about the whole scenarios. ❤️❤️
Thank you!
Yeah this guy is seriously thick. It’s funny people like this exist, at least it made me laugh
LMAO, that was the comedy of the video. Like who would take a charger that's clearly meant to stay in one spot and do all this with it...I'm thinking, "Is he making fun of the mentally challenged "????? . I'm not sure if I should make fun of him or give him a medal.
Knowing that it only privides the 15W (low compared to other phones) when using the original charger brick did it for me. No go for me now. Thank you for the information
So, I’m interested to get one of this for the new 15 pro max. Sometimes i use it while cooking and i like that it’s stays on it, and also i can move the cable on every side. Combined with 3£ ikeea wood stand, it’s amazing
I agree. I don’t think there are actual benefits to this “wireless” charging pad over wired fast chargers if you need 2 hands to unplug it. But I’m really looking forward for the Belkin 3-in-1 Magsafe charger since I use AirPods and the Apple Watch.
BTW great video
Thanks! I am excited about future magsafe accessories. Hopefully more than wallets.
There are - cable can come out of any way, and you safe space by no need for port and also get better water proofness, in future
@@DepressedMusicEnjoyer You are right. But I usually don’t use my device when it’s charging so for me it’s not a big deal and I don’t plan on diving with my phone anytime soon.

Wired fast charging degrades and damages batteries minimally twice as fast as wireless charging does. When you have a phone that easily lasts a full day as most iPhones do it’s pretty pointless.
I love the MagSafe charger I purchased with my iPhone 12. I especially like not putting wear on the lightning port. When I am streaming music to my audio system from my phone I just leave the phone on the charger. I use the Apple charger. I expect to use this stuff for years so it’s fine on cost. A gamer? This is one the most comprehensive reviews I’ve seen on the MagSafe charger. I could not agree with you more! I’ve been using my 18w charger from last year, with my 12 pro max, and I could not be happier. It’s blazing fast! I’m convinced, that I don’t even need the 20w brick, let alone MagSafe. Terrific review!!
Wow! Thanks. It was a little satire and fun to make but I stand by it.
@@JerrySchulze You’re very welcome. Aside from all the great points, your video was thoroughly enjoyable in its entirety!
I bought one recently and it’s the slowest of the slow. It never reaches the advertised watts
I understand your reasoning about removing the pucks… I think when this came out no one had really even considered that these pucks would eventually become mounted themselves in devices like stands and car mounts…. Sure we all have a few free ones but most end up stuck in a puck holding mount of some type…. I think magsafe is barely used for what it can give us… but at least we get all this cool unique dollar store junk to hang off the back of our phones!!!!
So does the plant improve the wireless connection? Sorry I don’t really get it haha
When i can get a car magnetic mount that will charge and support CarPlay I'll be interested. So far my Qi Anker phone stand is the perfect charger on the bed table and it has all night so I don't care about charging speed.
Could always use two sided sticky tape on the bottom of the charge of the hold it in place, that way you can just pick it up off the charger with one hand
So whats the point of getting this then? Just get a cheaper wireless charge pad.. the whole point of this wired "wireless" charger is so you can still lift it up. Even typing this sentence makes me think how stupid this product actually is. The fact that the magnet might also leave marks on your case or scratch the phone if people go caseless, oh and also the price tag..this is a HARD pass for me. My $20 anker fast charging cable is more than fine.
Love the MagSafe. The charging port on my iPhone does not work anymore. Not sure why. Couldn’t charge my phone ‘til I bought the MagSafe.
Same. I guess it’s not „waterproof“ after all.
I see the main advantages of the MagSafe charger are that it saves having to line up the port and plug and it saves wear and tear on the port on the ‘phone through repeated connections and disconnections. Extension USB cables are available quite cheaply. To complain that you have to use both hands to disconnect sounds ridiculous to me
I see the real potentional via, it is a one time purchase to sort of replace micro usb.
1 i never destroyed an iphone port in 12 years of usage and only a few model change
2 the purpose of going wireless is … not having to handle a cable
3 magsafe stations are the way to go imho
@@farodopi5170 I just hate micro usb with a passion. Who thought it was a good charging format should have been casterated due to how fast you got to replace those, but iphone ports seem well designed.
I have it and it is good but it warms my phone hot like really hot I got the overheating notification a lot
The benefit is you don’t wear your lightning port. I pull it off really fast in a hurry. You can’t really pull a lighting cord quickly without wondering if you’re going to harm your phone or cable. I also like how I can charge my phone and listen to wired headphones at the same time
i got one for my gf because charging and using phone in bed was breaking cables. the benefit is its more secure than qi chargers. And i used her mac power brick which seems to give enough power
Thank you for your comprehensive and not boring review ! I needed this video to talk me off the Apple ledge.
1. Third party longer cables are available at very competitive prices.
2. It’s not true that third party power bricks only charge at 10W. Anker’s Nano 20W charging brick actually has a throughput of 16W, which is faster and cheaper than Apple’s own equivalent one. As long as the brick supports Power Delivery 3.0 it will provide power at the advertised speed.
3. No wireless chargers are designed to be hand held, so taking a dig at Apple for that leads me to believe that you created this video with the intention to discredit the product, instead of presenting an accurate and unbiased review.
4. This product claims to wirelessly charge MagSafe compatible iPhones at 15W, and it does what it says on the box.
So I say you should 100% buy it if you need it. Hope you found my honest review useful. Enjoy! 😆
You’re awesome dude

The best magsafe review out there.
i agree with him. a wireless charger only make sense if you don’t need 2 hands to use it. otherwise it’s just a wire …. cable..

the whole purpose of going wireless is … not having a cable to connect to the phone
a magsafe charging dock make much better sense than this cable.

For all the money we spend on smartphones (again, iOS or other) anything under a 10” cord is an insulting slap in the face. I now buy my charging cords from my usual 3rd party but since Apple decided to stop sending the chargers with the device I’d like the option to have them keep their lame crappy 3” cord as well. Since they seem to think the wall wart is with $40 then give us the option to get just the device and drop $60 off the price. I could then use that money to buy my 10” cord and wall wart while still pocketing the remaining $20. Fair is fair .
indeed ah why did they even bothered to put the short cable in the box.
to be honest i left it there as indeed i use longer cables or wired or magsafe charging stations.
I keep it there in the box as spare.
and that magsafe cable? jesus what a slap in the face as well. totally useless.
they indeed would rather drop the price from the d’évidé itself
This looks like an Infomercial :'D loved it. But still buying the mag safe using the velcro idea of Riley Olson
People have mentioned Velcro and 2 sided tape. Seems inelegant to me and another work around to make this product work they was it should.
It's because of simple minded buyers that Apple keeps pulling shit like this.
Love this comment
Yootech has a $8 MagSafe charger with a 5 foot cable and the end can switch between regular usb and usb c. Absolutely great and fast with the anker 20watt brick
Thank you so much.. great help 🤝
If I had one of these, I’d stick it to a counter/nightstand etc with some good double sided mounting tape. Wouldn’t have to worry about pulling the charger off the phone each time. Would essentially function like a regular Qi charging base
I have blue tacd it to my desk and it’s awesome.
I just got the MagSafe charger just 2 have it, it’s looks good and I already had an adapter for it so it’s good for me
Cool. I hope it works well for you. Lets us know if you still like it after a few weeks.
I’m a little late to this.. but I remove mine with one hand and love that vs lightning and which I need two hands.. with MagSafe I pick it up and push it off with a finger on the back.. I’ve loved the one handedness of it.
I have this charger in my bedroom. My partner often goes to bed earlier than I do. It’s easier to put my phone on the charger than fumbling around in the dark to plug the cord into the end of my phone.
Hey Jerry, can't you just extend the cable length with an extension?
Yes, you can and I did. But that is extra money you need to spend and I will test it but may reduce charging speed.
I’d rather have to use two hands to disconnect the charger, than have to awkwardly hold a regular wireless charger on the back of my phone if I want to use it
who does that?
@@JerrySchulze if you’re laying in bed and your battery is nearly dead for example
@@JerrySchulze or want to play a game or just use the phone without it having to be laid on a wireless charger
Thank You for Saving My Money. Appreciate it. Video helped me a lot
If you guys do not mind there is also a similar magsafe by anker which can charge at 7.5W but is 5 feet long and is able to work with any usb c adapter. It is also cheaper than apple and you can use anker nano which is a 20W adapter but with less price than apple.
i’ll get it when they bring out a longer or 3rd party one
Yep, I can’t wait for good third-party stands.
I think you kind of missed the point (at least partially). I don’t think it’s about it being a wireless charger, more something like a hybrid between the regular cable and a wireless charger, being able to rotate where the cable goes out from but using it as a regular charger, not stopping the charging when you pick it up. I think the main problem is the cord length, since you don’t get to change it (ridiculous!). In general, I’d be thinking of this more like a fancier regular charger, since I think this is what Apple’s trying to replace long-term. It’s slightly more flexible; you can have the chord go any way you like, charges pretty fast, and it snaps right onto place and you don’t have to stab your phone every time you want to charge it. The only problems are the cord length and the price. Don’t think that universally outweighs just the element of snappy satisfaction and just the novelty of the concept. For me, it does. I’m not getting it, but if I did sleep on money, I’d be totally getting myself one.
That is pretty useful for drivers you can just get rid of bulky phone holders. Plus the ease of use
Definitely need a longer cord, I use an anker 10’ cord and it works well.
