It's always fun to watch somebody become a Band Maid convert. This whole series with each member featured is very informative and entertaining. You're going to really like the whole group.
Great to see you adding your own personal insights, Dunk, & not being afraid to be one of those people that can wear a Slipknot shirt but Isn't afraid to enthuse over BAND-MAID.🙂👍
With this documentary, the good Ohrenje (and all who are/were involved) has made himself a bit immortal to many of us Maidiacs. :) And i have the feeling by the end of this series, you will love Band-Maid not only for their music, but at least as much for the people who sing/play it. At least that's how I feel and I'm sure many others of us. :) But if I'm honest, it wasn't necessarily like that from the first time i saw/heard them. The first few weeks after I discovered B-M, I didn't quite warmed up to Saiki and was more captivated by the music that came from behind her. Today I ask myself how I could have been so blind! 🙈 It took 2 songs for it to click with me, which changed my focus, and with which Saiki ultimately stole my heart. 'Daydreaming' and the acoustic performance of 'Puzzle' that you saw at the end here. Being a fan of these ladies since 2019 I can confirm what the documentary conveys. The development and presence of Saiki in the last 2-3 years alone, has grown tremendously. The days when her nickname 'Ice Queen' was appropriate because she hardly spoke and was always so reserved in public are definitely over. Saiki is perfect as she is and, in my opinion, has long since surpassed her idol, maybe not in terms of sales figures, but in many other aspects. And yes, I agree with the statement "Successful doesn't always mean better". She is now more than ever perfect and irreplaceable for this band but also a wonderful and inspiring woman, which as you will discover is true of each of these ladies for different reasons. :) ___________________ 「 _"完璧なんてありえない" / Perfection? Just landed back in Nashville about 3 hours ago and getting caught up on your stuff. I actually went to "at home cafe" for dinner one night. That's where Miku was working when she came up with this genius plan. And being there TOTALLY explains her whole concept. Very enjoyable experience, but no photos or videos allowed 😢
Seen these documentaries many times, but always enjoy seeing them again! Pretty easy to see her shyness in the early days, especially in interviews! She has evolved into a powerful front women!
The Band-Maid Nippon broadcasts are also on UA-cam uploaded with subtitles by various folks. I'm not sure if all of them are posted as I've not seen all of them. But they are definitely entertaining.
I am very honored that Ohrenje invited me to narrate his scripts for Band-Maid. Like you, I learn something from each one. Make sure you catch the updated version for all the girls when they appear. And yes, I agree, O-san's editing for the Don't You Tell Me was a master class.
Whoa! The voice himself!!!! Mr. Michaels, fantastic job on this narration! I’ll definitely be keeping up with the updated versions of all of our ladies origin stories. I’m very honored that you found this video, and I’m hopeful to interact more in the future!
yes, absolutely, she has developed a stage presence to be reckoned with, I've seen them 3 times now and no matter how hard i try to zero in on one of the others, she always draws your attention back to her, she has become a true stage general
I could watch these documentaries over and over again. And I do! With the YT reactors! Always fun to tag along as another Maidiac discovers these gems made by Ohrenje 😎🤘
Hello. Thank you for featuring Saiki. Your reactions and thoughts on this Saiki documentary were very insightful and wonderful. I'm looking forward to your next reaction to Kanami's documentary, so I'm really looking forward to it. Thank you for your continued support of Band-Maid. from Japan.
Thanks for doing this, I hope you are having a great day. In this version they didn't touch upon how busy Band Maid was in 2016, they performed 101 concerts or servings in 9 different countries (if I remember correctly) and that doesn't take into account the number of interviews, media appearances, rehearsals and time in the studio. That would be a lot for anybody to handle. I've heard from different interviews that Saiki never asks Kanami to change the key of a song to suit her voice better, at most she will just say that will be difficult or ask Kanami if she realizes that she needs to breathe at some point. There are several interviews of the Band on UA-cam, if you are interested. The radio show that Saiki and Miku did is on UA-cam, but the videos are audio only, except the ones Ohrenje has on his channel.
Some minor trivia. The Hanshin Tigers won the Japan national championship last year, they previously won it in 1985. The are the 2nd oldest team and the song you hear here is the Tiger's club song and they were the 1st team to have a club song. Miku has had some enka training. Enka is a traditional Japanese singing style. The label they were on before Pony Canyon, Crown Records, was founded to record the songs of a famous male enka singer, Hiroshi Miyama, who Akane, Misa, and Kanami met at a Platinum Passport Awards ceremony. Enka was a big influence on Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth). PP has had a lot of acts, including PASSPO☆ whose gimmick was they were an airline crew and their audiences were passengers. Miku's idea for Band-Maid was the sort of thing they'd go for. Band-Maid seems to be their only band now. Ohrenje's documentary seems really well researched but there is so much we don't know about the history of the members before BM. Partly it is the problem of translating from Japanese and partly because Japanese musicians keep their private and professional lives separate. For example, only Saiki Atsumi uses her real name.
Great stuff and yes Ohrenje's work is incredible. His documentaries on the Maids show just how hard these amazing ladies have worked both individually and collectively, their success has been hard earned which makes these Rock Goddesses even more admirable and inspirational. Saiki has spent the majority of her adult life pursuing her dreams and goals and each time she struts onto the stage or into the studio we are all the lucky beneficiaries. What a fcken band Po 👍🍻
Saiki to Band-Maid is the equivalent of Neil Peart to Rush. Best of friends for many years but, will always be lovingly known as the "New" gal/guy. These Orenje documentaries are amazing. Thanks for reacting to it.
Yes, I love hearing Miku talk about Banda Maido. I also love that Sieke decided to learn about dancing and acting which made her an overall well rounded performer.
Always enjoy footage of their earlier performances. Thanks for your insights on this documentary Thee is footage of Saiki singing Endless Rain, with Yoshiki. I am not sure when it was recorded but I believe it was probably early on, when clearly she was struggling with her voice. It must have been a nightmare to go through what she went through.
I have said this many times , Saiki is the reason I found Band Maid . Experiencing her growth and that of the band is something everyone can be extremely proud of . The ladies are shining light in this often dark world Great reaction ty
Hi, I’m Japanese from Tokyo. Last year, AKANE said, "We've been with 5 people for about a month on the tour, but when it's over, We want to see everyone from the next day, and when someone calls one of the members, she says, 'Oh, 〇〇-chan is here now. Are you coming home?' In the end, 5 people get together. That's why we're so close that we're together with 5 people almost every day."
Were you aware that Saiki is also the one who chooses the set lists? Maybe some input from the other members, but primarily it's Saiki's call. She's done one Hell of a job!! 🤘🤘🤘
I am 4 days late but here is some expansion on the video - hope this helps. SAIKI on PIANO - CHOOSE ME - ua-cam.com/video/1z7BVaavLu4/v-deo.html&start_radio=1 MIKU thought here voice "lacked potency" she says "I want more coolness" so she went looking for another singer to do twin vocals. MIKU found SAIKI who was singing on her own. ua-cam.com/video/JJLVWEq43GM/v-deo.html MIKU's manager said that if MIKU told SAIKI the truth about the maid outfits SAIKI would probably not join. SAIKI did not like the apron that the MAID outfits have. Here is the first concert where they sprang the costume on SAIKI - Note the apron being thrown around by SAIKI in this video - ua-cam.com/video/tQPIvADL42k/v-deo.html By the way all the songs you hear in this video are BAND MAID songs. Here is Part 2 of that Japanese Interview where SAIKI talks about being "tricked". - ua-cam.com/video/YzWETTu-4iE/v-deo.html Yes it is very cool that BAND MAID considers their fans "Masters and Princesses" and a concert is considered a Serving! As in they are here for us! Not we are there for them. Cool! MIKU did not know how to play guitar until after SAIKI joined - KANAMI taught her to play. That acoustic song was PUZZLE - Acoustic version - ua-cam.com/video/ayJtzPkgZTc/v-deo.html - Rock version - ua-cam.com/video/zvuqmSQEnaA/v-deo.html
Great reaction and for very shy people staying silent for a week is a walk in the park (and empty park). If you watch some of the early interviews you'll see Saiki and MISA trying to be somewhere else and not saying anything unless specifically asked a question. That changed during the pandemic when they were on the radio show and she had to be more forthcoming, she developed the confident to speak more (plus Miku was always forcing her).
Great reaction, thanks for taking the time to share this with all of us. Can't wait till you do the others. Also, there are a number of interviews that might be fun. Seeing them all interact off stage is kind of revealing.
When you say "JustDunk", do you mean as in a basketball thru a hoop? Or a cookie/biscuit dipped in coffee? Or that your name is Duncan? Or th....Ohhh hang on you're reacting to Ohrenje's unsurpassed Maid docu's, so it's a "SlamDunk" then.😁
OK. Here's the scene in the AI prompt: While watching the incomparable Saiki documentary from our buddy Ohrenje at the NBA slam dunk contest, Duncan comes out of nowhere wearing a maid outfit to win it all by slamming an Oreo into a cup of coffee so hard he splashes the judges and the announcers. Then he shares the 100 million dollar multi-year contract he gets with the rest of us by flying us all to Japan for the sold out Band-Maid show at the Tokyo Dome. Get right on that, would ya? 🙂
Currently she is the "control tower" of Band Maid. Most of the strategic decisions or even the final form of the songs usually end in her agreement. She is the member of the band who has evolved the most deeply in these ten years. She is now a true Queen of Rock.
It's difficult to sing a song you're not committed to. They have an excellent formula for writing songs and Kobato/Saiki have a trust in each other to write/rewrite the best lyrics possible for whatever melody Mincho comes up with. All they do is produce magic musically & lyrically.
Actually, I think Saiki and Akane are the only two of the Ladies who don't do the cutesy voice that many Japanese women do. The first time I heard Miku's normal speaking voice in a Japan in Motion video I was surprised by just how low it actually is. And Kanami, when I heard her normal voice in the behind the scenes for both Line Cube Shibuya and their 2022 tour surprised me as well. And I think I have only heard MISA's normal voice once in the behind the scenes of the 2022 tour. Again her normal voice is lower pitched than the voice she uses during Okyuji's. The shirts are available through the Band-Maid Shop linked to their main page. If I am remembering right Saiki had only been with Platinum Passport for 3 months when she auditioned for Band-Maid. Saiki has mentioned many times about how Miku is CONSTANTLY busy. To the point she is suprised Miku has any personal life. If you have the chance look for Akane's birthday stream with sub-titles. There are 3 parts. Saiki mentions about how Miku is soo busy she doubted that Miku would show up for the stream/party. (She did but watch it yourself to see). All the Ladies use IEM's but Miku and Saiki also still use monitor wedges specifically for their vocals. Everything else goes to their IEM's. I have gone I think 11 days without speaking. Of course it was after I was in a motorcycle accident and my throat was sore from having a ventilator down my throat. Her voice has become much richer and colored and she only keeps getting better. Seeing her standing 8 feet in front of me in Houston where she looked at everyone in the front and sang for us, most of us fell in love. That is a two-fer you should do. Puzzle live from TGT then the acoustic from Zepp Tokyo. Saiki was and is the final bit of the recipe that makes the meal that is Band-Maid. She is also the final arbiter of what song are good enough to record and when a song is finished. Kanami has said that Saiki has told her several times "Enough" the song is done. Otherwise with the perfectionism of Kanami she would keep tweaking it.
Oh yeah, the Akane birthday stream from 2020 has immediately achieved a bit of a cult status. 🤭 I can only recommend it too, because it shows very nicely how family-like these 5 have become over the years.
@chrisegbertky she doesn't, but she does pitch her voice slightly higher on stage. I think it was Shogo who did a video on how Japanese women have two modes of speech. One for in public, and one for at home among friends and family. And how the public speaking voice is higher pitched. It was either Shogo or Meshida I think. It was 2 years ago I watched it. And in the 2022 Behind The Scenes documentary, you can hear MISA speak in a lower tone than she uses on stage. It was almost as low as Saiki's speaking voice.
Please if still up..watch the original documentry as well (in your own time)...so you can compare styles. etc. As I feel the original is a little more..playful?.. for a better word.
Ohrenje is legend
YES he is, I have learned so much about Band Maid from his content, he truly is a Legend!!!
It's always fun to watch somebody become a Band Maid convert. This whole series with each member featured is very informative and entertaining. You're going to really like the whole group.
Concerning her shyness: You have to watch the two interviews of Gold Rush (number 73 and 74). Its a must-see for MAIDiacs!
No matter how many times I watch these documentaries they always bring a tear to my eye. Beautiful.
Great to see you adding your own personal insights, Dunk, & not being afraid to be one of those people that can wear a Slipknot shirt but Isn't afraid to enthuse over BAND-MAID.🙂👍

Hi
Currently she is the "control tower" of Band Maid. Most of the strategic decisions or even the final form of the songs usually end in her agreement. She is the member of the band who has evolved the most deeply in these ten years. She is now a true Queen of Rock.
It's difficult to sing a song you're not committed to. They have an excellent formula for writing songs and Kobato/Saiki have a trust in each other to write/rewrite the best lyrics possible for whatever melody Mincho comes up with. All they do is produce magic musically & lyrically.

I don't think MISA ever uses an anime voice.
