This was so uncomfortable to watch. I was and still is. I decided at my late 20's I did not want to be a loser anymore! I went back to school and with severe ADHD the odds were stacked against me. I didn't care. I got A's and Bs 😀. I still was a loser but wanted to finish a degree. I took shitty jobs and got abused at work. I read self help books that were critical and took the shame in pride. By my 30s I finally got a degree and then got an average wage. I moved out and then worked 50 to 70 hours a week for a few years. Now in my 40's I make 90K. I am about to get a home but still I had a late start. I wish I was raised better but at least I got out

Just a reminder: living with your parents is not a universally “low value” quality. Some cultures, specifically those which retirement investments and retirement homes are not commonplace, living with your parents show responsibilty. It’s a mark that you don’t just leave the people who took care of you when they are old and incapable of taking care of themselves.

That’s a good point! Not everyone is American lmao. And the trend of parents gleefully kicking out their kids the moment they turn 18 is weird. You should have kids to love them and give them a good life, not just because you wanted a cute baby for one year. Your child is your child for LIFE not just 18 years.

A couple more signs of low value men:
    1. Constantly judging other people.
    2. Being offended by everything.
I grew up with a father who did a lot of these two things, and unfortunately some of it rubbed off on me, and I've had to work to eliminate these behaviors.

Good stuff. A similar story for me too. Add to the list "constant complaining". I grew up with extremely negative and toxic influences around me so it's been an effort to make sure I don't follow in those footsteps. Because sometimes I would find myself acting like that, but thankfully managed to recognize it in myself and not like it enough to want to change. 👍

He kept the daily lists to show that he had made progress. It worked.

Signs of a low value man (my list):
    1. They can’t handle adversity (most of the time).
    2. They lack discipline.
    3. They usually act in panic, stress, fear and bug out.
    4. They say negative things about people.
    5. They have poor work ethic.
    6. They dwell on the past
    7. They’re people pleasers.
    8. They lack purpose in life.
    9. They don’t take care of themselves. physically and mentally
    10. They don’t think for themselves hence have herd mentality.
    11. They make bad choices and don’t learn from them.
    11. They want to do as little as possible
    12. They’re argumentative and rude
    13. They lack morality and are antisocial
    14. They venerate people with high status but they degrade people of lower status
    15. They are dishonest and lie a lot.
Most of these use to apply to me however I’ve developed myself personally as I grew older. I still struggle with 9,6,5 and 3 sometimes, but I’m getting better.

I understand this was meant to promote emotional intelligence for men which was a taboo for years but a part of society took it the wrong way. Thus allowing and normalizing men to have a "victim" mentality.

I would clarify that you shouldn't engage in self-improvement for results, to get women, or impress people. People don't care. You're unlikely to improve so much that you stand out, probably just become normal. I made a big push to change at 27, got a master's degree, excelled in my career, got in the best shape of my life, saved and invested my money, learned an incredible amount by reading and studying. I'm better for it and I feel like I can live with myself now knowing I'm not a complete waste of space. But did it make my life easy, do I have women lining up to date me, does anyone really care or notice that much? No. It can't be about that. I know I'm in a better place today and I don't have regrets. I know I didn't waste my time. And I'm in a position for life to keep getting better. That's all it is. Not super exciting, but so much better than the alternative.

I’m morbidly obese, no friends at all. I have my dog, however. I’ve tried for several years to get a different, better paying job but to no avail. Also in terrible debt with student loans, credit cards, etc. I have severe depression and anxiety for which I take six different medications. While I don’t blame others for my problems, I do blame myself and low intelligence for most things gone awry. I do feel like I’m angry in general most of the time, mostly at myself. I have zero motivation now after countless failures and severe depression. I don’t ever really see myself digging out of this one. I only dig myself deeper. Not sure if anyone else is in this type of situation.

I went through these hard impossible times also. Luck only did I get past it. But then Entitlement got me. I now have a "why even try" thought pattern. Then I answered, "Sorry but I can love a man so much but if he's lazy and never takes responsibility for his life, then how can I continue to love hime??" He calls it being picky and I call it having standards.

Until a year ago, I was in a relationship with a girl who was satisfied with being a career barista and she had zero ambition. The way she lived her life leaked into my mind and I started to become that too. We broke up and it did hurt, but I'm now a thriving single man, making more money than I've ever made before, and I'm actually typing this comment while waiting for my chemistry class in college to start. I'm well into pursuing an engineering degree and HOPEFULLY well on my way to becoming this "high value man" everyone speaks of! My ultimate goal it to build a kingdom for my future wife and kids, and be the best father and husband I can be. It is a very challenging road, but it is worth it! God bless you all!

I was bullied too from an early age, first and second grade/prep school. I always tried to get attention and received it but I was trying too hard and it was a waste of time. I wanted everyone to like me and was deeply affected by being mistreated and others knew this so I received what I received. As a child I struggled with normal anxiety and maybe a touch of ADHD symptoms. I didn't have a long lasting friends until high school and college. I only have had one best friend that I talk to several times a week, including today but I haven't seen him in several years due to distance. I never tried to escape reality though. I stay disciplined in my work and my hobbies and take fitness seriously. Now there's still bad vibes that come your way though even your hobbies and social environments at any age. Many test or try to treat me like garbage...especially in recent years with basketball and peers from the game that I play and coach. There's not One Life-Long friend I'd ever gain from the sport. I do coach basketball and I'm coaching at the prep school I attended in elementary school (3rd year) and we won the district championship this past season in March.
I have probably had my best confidence moments in life though in my higher paying jobs I have had since earning my college degree at age 23 (Operations manager retail stores and later in 2015 --> in supply chain management)..First I was a store manager at Abercrombie and Fitch for 4 years and did some city recruiting as well as being involved in all store operations. From 2005-2012. I really had left my mark as a high value personality with good social skill and I always treated everyone with respect and simply just cared. I was a master of praise and encouragement and was well liked...I'm an emotional person and its a characteristic that could be good and bad.... I never try to hurt people but and always treat people the way I want to be treated. Others can take me down though as they know certain things will affect me..some many think I'm weak. With this I know I'm not weak but others will think this once they get to know you and your personality. Fast forward to now I'm a licensed behavior consultant in my local area..I served the local schools families and communities. Not sure that this comment will help you but I can relate to how you are feeling so I'm posting this here. This video reduces a complex issue to a winners-losers dichotomy. "Man up" and those kind of things. That's toxic. I was bullied in school too and that left a mark on me, I've struggled all my life to value myself and it is something that requires constant effort and a lot of wisdom but it is possible. If you value yourself by the perception of others you'll end crazy (you, me and anyone). The video is right about the need of effort and a plan to get out of vicious circles, but it expresses that in a bad way. Any man can be a winner one day and get fired the next day, and biceversa. Or have a marvelous girlfriend and be dumped for no good reason. Everyone goes through bad times in their lives, but we can focus in the things that are under our control and start from there.

But now I teach my kids how to eat and how to live best I can. You are strong for sure...keep doing what you do!. if you have a plan and goals you are not a failure. Just because people have it worse doesn’t mean his pain is not valid due to his parents in his early life. Yes, some people never had no parents to begin with but it doesn’t mean his pain is not valid about his parents.
Other people having it worse has nothing to do with what he said about his pain/struggles. There will always be people who have it worse doesn’t mean he also hasn’t gone through pain with his own Parents.
People really need to stop saying this it’s not compassionate and it’s not supportive.

As a teacher, mentoring young men, and of adults at university, I'm going to start using this video and my own TV show episodes that harshly point these thigs out. Several of my mentees, over 21 have children out of wedlock despite my years of counsel to not have children until after 30/getting a degree. I was writing about my family and why I haven't gone down the negative road some of them have and honestly why I've cut off so many of them---it's because they are Low Value and mired in it, their pain, anger, envy, etc.. I'm grateful that my mother and father pushed themselves and therefore the needle enough for me to look at my parent's strengths and weaknesses and focus of development of the strengths of my own and avoidance of their weaknesses. I told them before they died that their lives and deaths were both Mentorship and Anti-Mentorship---what not to become.

[6M] Add what I call _microsocialism_ to the list of findings that suggest a low value. People with that characteristic do not have clear boundaries that separate themselves from others. They will borrow money not realistically expecting to repay it when their buddies have it, and they will irreversibly lend or otherwise share it when their buddies are out of cash. Other boundary violations exist too, but the money one is easiest to observe.

Most of the rich people I've talked to seem to be content with their lives and have no desire to humiliate others for their lack of money. However, some of the rudest people I've met are people who are either struggling to get money or conceited people who are middle-class and think they are rich because they spend money on expensive stuff.

Thank you for this. I broke up with a girl after a year and nine months. I always took care of her as if I had deal with dad if I did not. When I broke up with her I was not angry nor did I make any kind of scene. I carried all her stuff to her truck. As I carried a generator that belonged to her she told she had given it to me, but did not tell me. She told she appreciated everything I did for her and decided to give it to me.
The notion of keeping the generator was rather freaky to me because it is not a cheap peice of equipment. Even as I write this I feel bad to keep it, but I understand why she gave it to me and I should appreciate her thoughfulness.
Before I broke up with her I did a mental cost/benefit assesment of our relationship. I took the Meyers Briggs personality test, I would ask her if I was any kind of bad to her, if I ever spewed any anger towards her, and I would periodically ask her if her dad would approve of the way I treat her. She would always say she felt safe with me and that her dad would approve of the way I treat her.
The reason I checked myself with the personality test, and all the other things I did to check myself was because I did not want to mistreat her and if I was not being good I have to change the way I interact with her for benefit. I wanted to always be good to her as if I had to deal with her dad looking at me holding a "side by side" in his hands. Her dad is deceased, but she told me that I am very much like her dad and that we would have gotten along very well.
Even though we got along well, did much stuff together, and had many things in common the relationship was really serving really serving me. I will say that she is a very good woman and any man ought to be proud to have her, but the relationship was not serving me as well as it could have. We had a good run, but I thought it better to end it.
By the way, the Meyers Briggs test says I am an ISTJ. The personality type is very protective often getting in jobs as military and law enforcement; I am a Veteran and I do work in law enforcement. Finally, I viewed this video because I wanted to check myself again. It's just what I do as I strive to be good to people especially a love interest.

A buddy of mine went from the pressure cooker overnight to a free and easy retirement in Florida. No debts, no worries. He lasted six years. (Of course, the pack a day habit and the single malt Scotch didn't help things any).
