      On the other hand, this doesn't look like a game which really requires a "training mode", so, I think the whole thing is something of an elaborate joke. Or, maybe the training mode is only intended to teach advanced techniques or tactics, and they deliberately left it out to make it easier to get into playing the game on easy (in which case, beating the game on easy could itself be considered the first part of the training mode).
      I can think of a few games where beating it on easy basically requires no real skill, but where you have to learn a whole new set of skills to actually beat it on the highest or second highest difficulty settings.

    Wanna nitpick? This game has some weird-looking walk cycles. I feel like the animation in SoR4 was more skilfully executed, although this does look nice and smooth. Nitpick? Sure!
      1. They don't even teach or tell you that block + special = rush attack.
      2. There's no medium difficulty. Just either hard or easy.
      3. They put the default difficulty on hard.
      4. There's only 3 characters, which are Final Fight knockoffs.
      5. The music and stages is a ripoff of Streets of Rage 2
      6. There's absolutely no continues, credits, or saves.
      7. "Easy" mode is just 2 extra lives and it's still not easy.
      8. You have to beat arcade mode to unlock training mode.
      9. The points don't matter, there's nothing to unlock with it.
      10. It's $25 dollars, about the same price as TMNT Shredder's Revenge.

    With all due respect, everything you demonstrated in this video for Final Vendetta made me actually turned off from the game.
    I personally believe Streets of Rage 4 did an incredible job taking the classic series and modernizing it. The graphics, music, and gameplay are all top notch. It’s beefier size and variety make it an amazing package and I’d say it’s the greatest best-em-up ever made.
    Final Vendetta was clearly made with a lot of love, but the difficulty, hidden options, and lack of variety make it much worse in my eyes.
    Streets of Rage 4 just seems like the better package between the two. I grew up on the SEGA Genesis and when I wasn’t playing Sonic the Hedgehog, I was playing Streets of Rage 2. So, while I love that old school feel, I feel Final Vendetta could’ve been so much more.
    Great video though and I’m really glad I got to watch this!

      I grew up with those games too and anything that potentially captures the magic of that era immediately gets my attention. So I pre ordered this. • @danielpagan2848
      @danielpagan2848 2 роки тому +3

      SOR4 is a top 5 game of the past generation for me! Its deep AF and I think a lot of people just aren't skilled enough to discover and pull off some of the craziest combos just like a lot of people will never be any good in Street Fighter. It's no doubt the deepest beat' em up ever made and an absolute masterpiece. I'm having a blast with TMNT but SOR4 is the pinnacle in the genre. I think people who don't really get the game need to see a few videos of what it's really possible to do and that would open their eyes to the depth of the gameplay. It's leap and bounds better than Final Vendetta and Joe has clearly not played Mania mode when he says FV is more difficult.

    • @N7-ElusiveOne
      @N7-ElusiveOne 2 роки тому

      Yeah, I almost clicked off the video. SoR4 is the best in the genre without question. Final Vendetta only manages to emulate the feel of why people like beat-em-ups. The soundtrack while correct for the genre, is forgettable. The balance is insanely dated. Lastly, I have no idea what made them decide to make the game as ugly as the oldest of this genre. It's got all this great animation work, but all the sprites are derpy, and lack any kind of style. They got the soundtrack right, the combat feel, but didn't think any of it should look cool. Interesting choice.
      EDIT: The club track: Club Tigre is truly a banger worthy of the genre. FV's soundtrack is on average better than SoR4, as that game has some bangers but also some utter trash.

    Streets of Rage 4 is not nearly as divisive as you claim. I assume Shredder's Revenge is the only project like this faithful enough to please certain OCD 40-year-olds. It's amazing that unless it feels exactly like TMNT 5 by the original devs on MVS hardware, it will be considered "divisive." Now look what you did. They tried to make this game more "faithful" to the stiff, janky crap we had and they nailed it. Nice work everyone...

      Streets of Rage 4 is fine but it’s one of the better ones. The style of animation in general looks cheap to me. Having borders around every character. Unfortunately Shredder’s Revenge has that too even though it’s pixel art and it looks really bad to me.

    • @craigluft7453
      @craigluft7453 2 роки тому +1

      when the trailer dropped the art style was divisive. when all we had was a trailer the art style was all we could judge, so we did. once the game released, and the gameplay was embraced by most players, and high level players started uploading runs with insane combos, the art style was put on the backburner and is just accepted now.
      if the game had straight up sucked, the art style probably would have been thrown under the bus with it.

You can do a pretty simplistic combo set, power up your ninja attack during a slight break, use your ninja attack, and repeat that indefinitely. Mix in some rush attacks, and your good. I haven't figured out how to 1 cc the bosses yet though. All the characters have a different move set and rhythm, which is where I think it gets interesting in terms of mixing up your attack moves.

      It cause of nostalgia. If it doesn’t look like what came before then people say “ it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the series”. However, if didn’t look exactly the same after all these years, then would say “ why didn’t they change it up or innovate? It’s not the 90’s anymore; this looks dated. It offers nothing new “.
      I mean, remember how upset some fans were when street Fighter 3 and 4 came out and their art styles and visuals were completely different from all the previous entries we had up till that point; even though they looked so much more detailed and had better fluidity.

    Thank you for doing an excellent review, that tells the pros and cons without beating around the bush.
    While the game does seem to have its charm, the fact that it doesn't offer any continue is really holding me.
    There's a reason why most console adaptations of arcade games used to cool down the difficulty compared to their cabinet counterparts, and that's because with arcade, assuming you had enough quarters, you virtually had unlimited continues.
    I don't think it's a good move to make a game "arcade hard" if you don't keep this feature... or maybe it's just my older self who doesn't have the time or will to play an entire afternoon to beat the game in one rush?
    Maybe they'll patch it later? I hope they do, that would actually make me consider buying it!

      From what I've seen it looks like they're adding a "casual" mode. While I have heard the game isn't as hard as it first seems, I'm with you that lack of any continues is a problem. Looks like they'll be fixing it fairly soon, so keep an eye on it if you're otherwise interested.

    It looks ok and wouldn't have looked out of place in the arcades back in the 90's. The problem with the graphics is the lack of dithering which makes everything look flat, especially the player sprites. There are scenes (12:04 for example) where it's used decently and it looks pretty good.
    Good dithering is what made Capcom and Square games shine.

      Sure if you put it on easy, higher difficulty do give a challenge. Still has the classic beat'em up tropes, bosses ignore stuns, enemies can hit you despite already in jump kick. Controls and moves are amazing perfect. One thing they got right is the pace. You move from fight to fight instead of regular walk speed...why final fight and streets of rage.

    Gotta be honest it looks a bit too old school for me, in a bad way. The core thing I liked about SoR4 is that they actually modernized the gameplay. The combat is way more skill driven than actual 90s beat em ups, it's the kind of game you can actually make it through without taking any damage whatsoever if you're good enough. But not only that there was clearly a lot of thought put into the character attack strings. You can still mash and have fun if you want, but if you really get into all the nuance it's possible to pull off a lot of elaborate combos thanks to the wall bounce system (which is easily one of the smartest designed decisions they made with the game, enemies being knocked/thrown off screen in beat em ups is so annoying.) And it's not just for show as the game has an active ranking system. S ranking each stage requires having an understanding of what all the enemies can do and how to keep the combo meter from resetting.
    Personally I think beat em ups died because they never really evolved their gameplay, which is why SoR4 is so great, and you can already see its influence spilling over into other games. The new TMNT game actually uses wall bounce in the exact same way as SoR4 and it's so much fun just juggling these enemies with your combos. Not to mention you have a pretty big moveset in TMNT and can cancel your normal into most other actions. Final Vendetta just looks like it's rooted in the past in all the wrong ways unfortunately. I am willing to give it a chance if it's cheap enough, but all the footage I've seen over the last few days is really killing any interest I had in it.

    • @turtleman7360
      @turtleman7360 2 роки тому +1

      I played this game and there is more going on in the combat then you may think. As Duke for example you can start the basic combo, cancel it into a special move and then go into a dash attack to prop them up for a juggle combo. Does the combat have as much depth as Streets of Rage 4?
      Not really, but TMNT Shredder’s Revenge doesn’t either and that game is still fun. I’d say it’s worth a look as there are some cool mechanics and the core gameplay feels satisfying but I can understand the apprehension.
      Especially for around the same price there’s Fight’N Rage, River City Girls (RCG 2 comes out soon as well), River City Ransom: Underground, Jitsu Squad (getting new modes and characters later in the year), and Dawn of the Monsters which have all come out within the last 5 years and are some of the best the genre has to offer with juggles, special cancels, different ways to set up combos etc.
      I’d also throw in Ninja Warriors Once Again (or Ninja Saviors outside Japan) and like Shredder’s Revenge it doesn’t have as much depth as the others I’ve mentioned but there’s still some as there’s different ways to combo enemies/juggle them etc., all the characters feel distinct, boss fights are pretty fun, decent enemy variety, and is overall satisfying to play.
      We are in a beat em up Renaissance and as a fan of the genre I couldn’t be happier that there’s been a lot of quality titles recently (quite a few this year alone) that show why the genre still has a place even in 2022.
