You sir are a UA-cam gaming legend. Your videos bring joy to many hearts. These comparison videos are my favorite. That being said, I do prefer Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the Genesis.

Hey Joe, quick correction: you can actually play with traffic and cops on Need for Speed for Saturn and PS1 if you choose head to head mode and play on the 3 original 3DO tracks (Coastal, Alpine, City). And both Saturn and PS1 version has 3 FMV intros, they are all the same and are played randomly whenever you turn on the game.
Cheers for the mention in the ending skit 👍. Much appreciated 😊 By the way, have you ever played the Japanese version of Saturn Need For Speed featuring only Nissan cars. It's vastly inferior. You can't even crash the cars. I'm guessing because Nissan wasn't in to that.

i have a lot of fond memories with the 3do version of Need For Speed as well. Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the SNES is such a fantastic two-player game. The password level-select system isn't that great because you'll start with base weapons and items if you use it.
I always look forward to your videos Joe. Just commenting for the YT algorithm, and to say I've watched all your videos more than once. All the best for the new year Joe.
Sure it's nice that Zombies's passwords are only 4 digits, but you really wish they weren't because they don't encode your inventory, which means skipping ahead means you start with nothing but your water spray gun, which makes later levels next to impossible.
My request for a game to see on multiple platforms is - Joe & Mac by Data East. Great game!!! Cartoony caveman adventure platformer type game. I rented and loved that game on snes. I grew up with the Genesis version of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and loved it. It is pretty much the same game as the SNES version, so either version is great in my book, though the SNES soundtrack is better. I had the 6-button controller, so the controls weren't much of an issue for me. I remember reading about the hidden flamethrower and finding the secret spot, but being really confused to why I couldn't actually find the weapon. Did not know it was only in the SNES version for some reason until much later. This has been the game I've always wanted a modern sequel to. Ghoul Patrol is a sequel, but I heard it wasn't that great, cause it wasn't originally developed as the game's sequel (I have both games on Switch now so I should try it). But there hasn't been anything since. I always thought a sequel would have been great for the DS/3DS as the bottom screen could have the radar and other elements while the top could be the gameplay. It's such a fun and unique game that just hasn't been replicated since.
Correction, YS The Oath in Felghana was made for the PC in 2005 and later ported to the PSP, you can find it on Steam for a very attractive price and the game runs perfectly, but the Nintendo Switch is due to receive a remaster of it soon so I recommend waiting for its release.
Oh, as for the car licensing in NFS - there was none. Same with Test Drive (NFS is the spiritual successor from the same team). The figured they could get away with it as they had Road & Track onboard. That's why there are no manufacturer logos or official fonts anywhere. No way in Hell you'd get away with that today. You can read all about it in issue 3 of NZ Retro Magazine that you're also featured in, Joe :P I wish that was a shameless plug but the mag is no more...
How was there never a remake made for Zombies Ate My Neighbors after all this time?! It's got to be one of the most universally loved classic games that still hasn't been officially revisited.
Sweet Jebus do I love Need For Speed on the 3DO. Yes, the Saturn version has a superior frame rate and gameplay, but the 3DO has the guy with the 90's TUUUUDE!! 😃
Yes! Please cover the Y’s 4s! I’m so fascinated by the differences in those, even with the canon version we have now, because I remember the one version having an interesting ending.
A whole episode of games that had a version on all three of SNES, Genesis and TG16 would be interesting, though I'm not sure how many games actually fit this criteria
It was awesome that the Saturn version of NFS could be played in 2 players even in the history mode. I think I never saw a racing game with 2 players in history mode after 16 bits.
There is a much easier way to grind for levels in Ys III. This was done on the SNES version, not sure if it will work on any other versions. The spot is at the end of Tigray Mine 2. Position yourself where the Raddel enemy can't touch you, but you can kill it and it respawns without you moving. Now, place something on the attack button so Adol will keep attacking. I usually do this before I go to bed. When I wake up I have a fully leveled Adol with max ring power and gold as well. A family member discovered this and since then, I have been finding other games I can use this on to level up while I sleep or go to work or whatever. This was my first introduction to AFK grinding or more like AFC. Also regarding Ys: The Oath in Felghana, It was first released for Windows in Japan in June 2005, then for the PSP in Japan in April 2010 and later in North America and Europe. The American PC version was localized by Xseed Games in March 2012 (info from Wikipedia). I have both the PC and PSP versions and I like the PSP version a little more because of the Double Boost and New Game+.
33:5036:18 No, it's not. The fairy necklace keeps Garland from coming back after you defeat him and leave Galbalan's Island, so you don't have to fight him a second time when you re-enter. If you don't believe me, try it.
I actually like how NFS1 looks. It's got a charm. It's like in that middle between realism and Pixel-art. It's just nice to look at! I vaguely remember playing the PC version at school once back in the day.
I thought you were gonna let us all down, Joe by only covering the saturn port of Need for Speed. I am ashamed I doubted you! Ys III on TGCD has choppy scrolling, but the input and character control is done at 60fps. That's why the choppy scrolling is easy to get used to; because Adol controls fine and responsive. The music really sets the environment. I played the SNES and MD versions back in the day as well, but the lack of the CD sound track - I always went back to the CD version. The TGCD version barely uses any of the system's color sub-palettes. Like 2 for the BG layer... out of 16. No idea why they did that. That has nothing to do with it being an original CD 2.0 game either.

Of course I have wondered about the differences between different versions of multiplatform titles. That's why, besides Game Sack, I also watch Console Wars. Are we doin this?!
Great video as always. I always hated the non-3do versions of Need for Speed. They switched from sim to arcade racer and I believe it was a totally different team that ported it too. When I first "upgraded" to the PS1 version I was taken in by the better frame rate and sense of speed, but after spending time with it, the car mechanics felt so much less impressive. I still regularly play the 3DO version hah. I do have to adjust to the sluggish controls and framerate, but once I do, I still have such a great time trying to beat my (and friends) best scores.
At one point I had both SNES and Genesis versions of Ys 3 and decided to do my own comparison. It’s definitely a strange feeling playing basically the same game on different platforms. Sure you have notable differences but essentially the same thing. Really wish there were more game that could straight up compare the SNES and Genesis like this! That way we could definitely prove which system was, in fact, the best of the two! In the end though, it really depends on your preference 😂
I mean it's probably better that games are pretty much the same across platforms but I am definitely nostalgic for when they were different. It was fun to rent the Genesis/SNES versions to see how they differed and in some cases like Mortal Kombat, I owned both versions because they were different enough to warrant it.
Yeah I liked it when they were different to. I like playing the different versions of Mortal Kombat, especially the Snes where it's sweat & the finishing moves like Johnny Cage are funny as he sticks his foot into you.
What are some other games with multiplatform releases that you'd dare me to compare in the future?
Mortal Kombat sega vs snes?
Grandia , Saturn vs ps1 .
Ghostbusters. Most versions suck ass but there's some differences across them.
Resident Evil 2 Dreamcast vs ps1 vs n64 vs GameCube
Any Fighting games, remastered vs original, Resident Evil series, Street Fighter series, Marvel vs Capcom series, Alpha series

11:05 -- 'It's Game Sack!' 🥳 Happy New Year, Joe! 🎉
Genesis Valis iii music is awesome.
Great video! Love these types of comparisons and I get to learn about games.
Love these videos, love the salt and pepper look, love you Joe! ❤❤❤
I’d love to see a gamesack video on the contents of that journal with all your dated rentals and other intrigues
Never misses a chance to talk about Ys and I'm here for it.
I only watch this when I'm totally stoned. I'm so ripped right now. It's 7 in the am in Florida on Sunday.
never get stoned, life is too short
I mean it's probably better that games are pretty much the same across platforms but I am definitely nostalgic for when they were different. It was fun to rent the Genesis/SNES versions to see how they differed and in some cases like Mortal Kombat, I owned both versions because they were different enough to warrant it.
Yeah I liked it when they were different to. I like playing the different versions of Mortal Kombat, especially the Snes where it's sweat & the finishing moves like Johnny Cage are funny as he sticks his foot into you.
