The bigger the plane, the greater the optical illusion - but I remind myself that the air under the wing is heavier/denser than the plane. We think of air as being 'nothing' and yet I read that the air pressure on an average adult male is equal to a ton and our bodies are equalizing that pressure from the inside, and if we were to find ourselves in a vacuum, like space, we would virtually explode from the inside out... what a piece of trivia to start the day... lol. But air is HEAVY MAN!

The massive bulk of the 225 rose above the trees as it climbed off runway 23R at Manchester. That bulk, and then the smoke from the 6 engines, kept us in the dark for quite a while!

People don't realize how big this honker really is. It dwarfs a 747. It is the largest airplane in operation today. Believe it or not, the infamous spruce goose is still bigger. Not as powerful, not given the piston driven engines of the day, but still larger in wingspan. Believe it or not, Rolls Royce Aircraft makes a jet engine big enough that one could power this thing. They would never do that, but it could. Two would be the minimum they'd ever use for saftey reasons.

The structural loading on the aircraft frame as those 6 engines produce a total of 309,600 lbf of thrust while waiting to roll. She holds the world record for an airlifted single-item payload of 189,980 kilograms (418,830 pounds), and an airlifted total payload of 253,820 kg (559,580 lb). The Antonov 225 was built in 1980 and is still in commercial use today. One of its contracts was, ironically, to airfreight 216,000 prepared meals, weighing 187.5 tons from Stuttgart, Germany, to American military personnel based in Oman.

What a sad ending.for probably the most famous plane in the world it's iconic, it's been on TV programs Dramas etc in the UK, no doubt other nationalities have had it on TV programs etc, with the parts particularly the fuselage from the plane that was never completed she has to be remade even if it's not adsatly the same plane at least another can be built alot of nations have offered to help remake another plane. I'm not into planes but hope she's reborn.
