He went to drama school but became a rock drummer instead of acting. When he got successful he decided to branch out and come back to acting. His music is best, but if wanting to see him act, I suggest a short film noir piece called 'Calliope' (1993) and only 16 minutes long.
When I was in college, each fraternity put together a musical act for something called "Greek Sing". My fraternity did this song and one other. I was exhausted halfway through, but I learned why guys form bands. Hearing girls screaming is addictive. Ola, another great song by Phil is "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven".
