This was during the Live Aid concert where Phil Collins performed at Wembley London, then flew all the way to the States in record time, to perform more songs to the Philadelphia audience on the same day.
*Played on his own, then with Sting at Wembley, then hopped on the Concorde to Philadelphia where he again played on his own, then with a reunited Led Zeppelin (the less said the better) then played with Eric Clapton.*
This was written at the time of his first divorce, and was left unfinished until he was asked to do a song for a movie soundtrack. 'Against All Odds', was the name of that movie, unsurprisingly. Please consider listening to, 'Come With Me', which is a good example of his later work.
Just a piano and himself.. Nothing else. In front of billions, in a LIVE broadcast around the world. I'm still shuddering over it.. I watched this LIVE at the time, whilst sat in a pub in England.
Everyone who performs in front of any kind of audience should watch this and learn a lesson, which is that you might screw up, play the wrong note, etc, but you need to persevere through it, laugh at yourself, and keep on going. It’s how you recover and keep moving than how you screwed up. Phil Collins ruled.
This song also played @ the end of the movie "Against All Odds" jn the '80s. Great flick w Jeff Bridges, Jamez Woods + Rachel Ward. Passionate performance by Phil.
This is a nice acapella performance. Seeing one of Phil's VERY rare 'flubs', his knowing smile and quick recovery illustrate the incredible degree of professionalism he possesses. Supreme confidence. A unique talent and one of the best male performers from the 20th century. (his live Genesis concerts are legend)
Some other great songs from Phil Collins: "Mama", and a remake of "A Groovy Kind of Love". Also, my favorite would be "Follow You, Follow Me". I think he was still with Genesis at that time.
A lesser known fact about Phil is that he was a child actor. So that feeds into his presence and performance. His daughter is Lily Collins, Emily from Emily in Paris.
His episode of 'Phil the Shill' from Miami Vice is golden. He show his emotional range in his performance, no singing, but great acting with humor. If you can find it, watch it.
Love your reactions! Nice to see a young Phil Collins! Hope you can react more to Gigi De Lana esp her cover of Sam Smith's UNHOLY. Its mind-blowing, even Gigi's fans were surprised when they 1st saw the video! You will love it! Thanks!
This is The Perfect Ballad, the lyrics, the harmonies, his voice.. but there is even a better live version to watch.. Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Seriously Live in Berlin 1990) .. :)
Great job as always ty for everything that nobody actually sees so you can bring us such great entertainment and a question what about someone like myself that I don't have the problem with stage fright or anything like that I would most likely be the opposite that I am over confident what should I do to ground myself more?
You need to do Emma Kok’s newest song and her very first original called Dancing On The Stars. It’s even better than Voila. You don’t want to be late to the party…lol. She even speaks to everyone before the song starts. So mature. Well beyond her years. So calm. No nerves. Amazing.
*If you want PC's remarkable stage presence, he returned with Genesis to play Wembley Stadium a then-record four consecutive nights three years later in July 1987. The one of the nights they filmed is incredible, especially the Drum Duet into Los Endos and ending with the sublime Turn It On Again Medley.*
That clunky note happened, because it was a very hot day on a white stage in London. And he subsequently sweated so much that his finger slipped off one of the black piano keys.
Phil is actually a wonderful drummer, formally of the band 'Genesis'. Please try reacting to the live version of his song 'In The Air Tonight' it's just sensational. Thanks. 🙋♂ ❤
Just wanted to mention a song by Queen - a Freddie plus guitar solo (Brian May) called "LOVE OF MY LIFE" - check out the performance in Rio! YOU WILL CRY
@@G_Demolished Of course, but then you're left with the fact that this version of the song is inferior to the original, and the poeple who hear it for the first time don't experience what they should have experienced first. It's better to hear the original first, then watch live performances second
The thing that always annoyed me about Phil Collins's Live Aid performance was, why didn't no one tell him that it probably isn't the best idea to play the same bloody song when you get over to Philadelphia?
Very good song, but horribly mismatched with a bad movie. There was no connection between the song and the two characters it was written to portray in the movie.
THis is WEAK................no imagination............sounds just like the record.........did he lip sync ?? Compare this to Queen's Live Aid performance. Pretty poor effort, Phil. It looks like he cannot WAIT to get the song over so he could get off the stage. Boo BOo Boo.......awful performance.

Yes, on the old Concord. 6.5 hrs wasn't it from London to New York? RIP Concord.
@@rabudman 3 Hrs - fastest ever crossing was the other way - 2hrs 52mins 59secs. You'd spend longer than that just going through security now.

@@MattSingh1 Thanks for the clarification. I'd forgotten the Concord went to Philly.
@@rabudman 👍
Just a piano & a legend singing!
Unnatural amount of talent for one human being
Just a little guy and a piano, literally.. Fuck this!
Another day in Paradise is another heart wrenching song.
The official video is a master's class in serious music and effective presentation.
One of my favorite song♥️ watching here in the philippines👍
One more night, a terrific little song. It’s at his peak.
Phil's first three solo album are masterpieces of song writing.
@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119 it was the high school prom song. It is a very special song, I never went to mine because I was a poor boy.

And precious little rehearsal time too, which is my there are mistakes and imperfect sound in some Live Aid performances.

Well...he was a drummer playing the piano, so kudos for going for it anyway ;)
Magic
Such a classic. How did we go from this, to just ass ass ass songs.
There are parts of this liryc that make me think about my mother. ❤❤❤
One of my favorite singer and song. As a Gen X. I love Phil Collins, Richard Marx, and Brian Adams
❤
There is a "This American Life" segment called Dr Phil where Phil Collins talks about writing this song after his unwanted divorce.
This song also played @ the end of the movie "Against All Odds" jn the '80s. Great flick w Jeff Bridges, Jamez Woods + Rachel Ward. Passionate performance by Phil.

Please do try to reacts John Farnham ,,," Help" and Rex Smith.." You take my breath away".thanks 🙏🌺
You want to see 1000 percent stage presence, Meatloaf, Paradise by the dashboard lights, it's like a stage play
He was waiting to get off quickly had to fly to Philadelphia for the US leg of the concert.
Great voice and he was hot back in the day imo!
💙💙💙💙💙💙
If you enjoy your keyboards. You really need to check out Keith Emerson ✌🏼❤️
Hardly anyone notices Sting sitting there (stage left) while Phil is singing. 😂
You should really break down Genesis - The knife ❤

3:15 yes, he feels it. It's not just a song. Is what happens to him whit his wife in those years

Against All Odds is a breakup song. Too many people failtto listen, and just hear.

Played it for my mum last year at her funeral. One of the most beautiful songs written. My mum was my life.
I really think it was a mistake to hear this version instead of the original
It’s pretty tough to comment on someone’s stage presence while watching a lyric video.
