A big shout out to the people of Mauritania for their hospitality & noraly too for showing us the true Mauritania.
I've done my fair share of ruff traveling back in my days ,.. oh the good old days! Good to see that all is still possible to experience today. People in the outback are always most welcoming to visitors. And you can trust to safely drink their water. It's the cities where you have to look out for disentry and bad people,.. and politicians and bankers...

what are stereotypes about Mauritania? I doubt most people would know how to point it on a map! let alone have any idea about what the country or the people are like

@haronclement seriously! I never knew the country existed, until Noraly visited.
He's talking about the fact that Mauritania has a 20% slavery rate (as in buying-and-selling kidnapped humans old school slavery, not modern slavery) and overall crime and terrorism threats are very high. As always many people there will be lovely (as witnessed by Ahmed doing this lovely thing for Noraly), but sadly as a generic whole the country has some legitimate problems that are in no way a 'stereotype'.
What a top lad Ahmed is. He was absolutely impeccable. The nomads in the desert seems to have a pretty tight sense of community and always looking after one's in need. Legends!

Dont wanna sound cynical, but he is from the Ministry of Tourism. Probably is his job to guide her safely. Public relations is not bad though. Its good to drive safely through a difficult country like Mauritania.

Ahmed picking up random people along the way what a legend.
It's a different mind-set when you live in places like that. I've travelled and worked all over the world as well. It's the same up north in Alaska, the Yukon or Northwest Territories; you never pass someone on the side of the road between communities without stopping and asking if they are ok or need help. You pay it forward every time you do that, because one time in the future it might be you who needs help. City folks down south simply don't get it. Heck, most city folks don't know their neighbor's first name.

That part of the desert you crossed today is called Tiress, it is a well beloved desert there. Every single part of that vast area has a name, and you can't imagine how many times do those places appear in poems and songs (both in Hassaniya, and classical Arabic poems).. Tiress has a mysterious charm, its air is beautiful and its plants/weather are healthy for camels.. lovely to see you cross it and enjoy a well deserved rest in the beautiful oasis of Atar ! :)

Somehow I feel your anxiety and nervousness having to traverse the desert with 1 bar of fuel left! But the comfort is knowing you have Ahmed with you!

What a super wonderful man you met that helped you get out of that horrible situation of your motorcycle not starting. Then, he took you to his place and later accompanied you to a new destination. He is one of the angels that you will find along the way. You are not alone, Noraly. I also want to point out that I had noticed how all your motorcycles always started on the first try and how frustrating must have been for you when "Alaska" did not start. Wow! What a great adventure. Godspeed, Noraly.
Achmed is an amazing gentleman to escort you to your destination safely. To all the people there, thank you for protecting Noraly. I hope you can get the transmission issue sorted soon. At breakfast yesterday, my old biker buddies are all talking about you and how you are so capable of handling sand now, and you are complete in your riding skills. And your winning smile makes friends everywhere you go. An amazing woman you are.
Ahmed saved the day! I can't imagine what would have happened if he hadn't offer to help. That was a lot of desert to cross by yourself unguided!

@@paulwassenaar8351 I will do that. I did not get the impression from this video he was hired though his employer though, or that he was hired to guide her across the desert. Thought Noraly called him and he came to her assistance initially because the bike would not start and then went further to accompany her across the dunes. Still I am there would be no harm no fowl if his contact for others were available.

As a fellow geologist I must say that I truly do envy you Noraly. We spend time at mining and exploration sites all around the world, but never really get the chance to explore the countries that we are in because we are paid to fly in, work and then fly out. You have charted a unique path for yourself and I commend you for that. Stay safe and great adventures to come!
I studied geology at Virginia Tech (though I got my degree in something else), and it's my favorite part of her expertise. Her trip through Namibia was amazing.

In several ways Noraly's experiences in the last two episodes reminded me of her experiences in Nevada/Utah in season 6. First, the bike crash injuring Noraly in the US and Alaska in Mauritania. Second, the rescue from a saviour summoned by her for help. And finally, a guided tour from the saviour over the area which she intended to traverse herself had no crash occurred. We are all so grateful for those who have gone out of their way to help another human in need.
Noraly, thank you! I have found through travels in many parts of the world that people are mostly helpful and kind. You find a person who is willing to help you when you are in need. You find the police who are ready to provide shelter when you are in need. You find random people who invite you into their homes for refreshments. That reflects what I have found as I have traveled many places. Of course, there are others who want to take advantage. They are everywhere. But, across the world, there are far more who want to help, to show that their country is good, to protect us from harm.
I am enthralled by the beauty and compassion you show us every week. Thank you.
Amazing terrain, Amazing people. Outstanding hospitality is part of their culture. Ahmed has been a very good Ambassador for his country. We are all getting a great feeling about this area without politics and religion getting in the way of the humanity. This could not be any better. Proud of Noraly.
Wow, when Noraly says she is going for a ride in the desert, she is not kidding!!! Ahmed was a life saver. Best time I have ever had seeing nothing but sand.
Ahmed is the man. A "Roger of the Western Sahara" if you remember Roger out of Wallace, Idaho from Season 6.
I buy and burn gasoline by the gallon (except when infrequently riding in Canada). So, when Noraly arrived Atar and Alaska took two tenths shy of capacity I incorrectly thought it wasn't too bad- I've done that a number of times. Then I remembered it is two tenths of a liter not of a gallon! That converts to a mere 7 ounces remaining in Alaska!
This brings me back to Ahmed. His hauling of Noraly's luggage was key to Alaska not running out.
I cried through most of this one, I actually cry through most of them😂simply because of the beauty. The beauty of the people the places the interactions. SO MUCH BEAUTY. Feel it so deeply. Thank you for sharing these amazing experiences. Love to you Noraly, love to your guides and hosts and helpers. ❤ 🫂

When I watch Noraly go through deep sand in an endless desert I can feel my muscles gripping the chair arms. I can feel the desire to stand up a bit and tell myself, as if I was riding, to hit the gas! or no, no, not that way, this way.

What a blessing Alaska's non-starting became: Achmed to the rescue, turned out not to be major mechanical problem, but brought Noraly's escort and pathfinder. Had she needed to cross that desert track loaded with luggage on her own, we might not be watching this episode so quickly. As much fun as solo riding can be, for me having a fellow traveler allows me to relax more. Thank you, Noraly and Achmed for a great adventure.

Said it before, but this is definitely your toughest terrain. The distances should be measured in hours, not kilometres. I know how independant you are on your adventures, but Ahmed really helped with navigation, and load carrying this time, and no shame in that. Great season so far. 🌞

NORALY thank you for informing us that you settle with Ahmed all the cost of his incredible gesture and reaction to your call for help...certainly the disposition and eventual response speak a lot about the type of good person that he is . About you I can say that you give a much needed lessons to other overlanders and motorcyclist and backpackers that do not show empathy or understand the harsh conditions that people that they see in the journey have. Incredible, Noraly pulls the best out of people in the middle of NOWHERE... I now understand the randomness of tracks in the desert. Everyone just knows were they want to go and make tracks in that general direction. There's a rock formation that is a way point, a dune etc. All sorta eyeballed/close enough. They make it to their destination.. This is better than the Amazing Race that I USE to enjoy years ago, because of the different cultures...
This may be your best season yet IMO. You've done more for tourism in Mauritania than anyone else. Achmed will praise you for years to come I think.

They say you can navigate by referring to the stars at night, but what about the day time…there are no stars but there is Ahmed (and where is he driving tooo…) it’s just amazing how Noraly has that desire to venture into the unknown for her fans and continue to experience lifetime memories…for us all….simply amazing with continued breathtaking sites… safe travels Noraly… “it is unreal….”

Congratulation for this episode. It was a long all day ride. Yes you deserve a couple days break ! I would like to point out like many others in their comments the extrem kindness of Ahmed. He didn't just go that extra mile !!! And also I would like to point out Ahmed's style so elegante, so graceful ! That Man literally flow to help out Noraly !
