      If only the grain wasn't spiraling, then I'd breeze through it much faster

    That's big I would noodle it or wedge but I hand split 😊 Take care of your back ..

      I would hand split all, but more accurate with the splitter. I donsome hand work in a future vid with these big boys. Most had a track so I could've easily quartered them. Although I give away the sawdust, I can't save up too much without running out of bins to store so I noodle less if possible

    Nice! Slow going, but does all the work for you.

      A little finicky with the grain, otherwise it should've went faster. If so, I would've been making some oversized old school door stopper pegs 🤣🤎

    Noodle the log into halves or quarters. Much easier to handle.

      I tried with the maxhine to make good content for a video, but I could've popped em open with the mail axe because they were so straight, plus they had a crack going through them which would make it easier with the maul. Even though I give away my sawdust, storing it and cleaning it up is extra time that I don't want to use up.

    I had a large dead ash tree that I wanted to drop and cut up for firewood - the tree had a lot of dead branches on top so I had to be real careful - a large Linden(Basswood) tree was in the way so I had to cut that down first - well I drop the Linden tree then the Ash tree - cut up the Ash and brought the wood up to where I have my 35 ton splitter - then I brought a pickup truck load of the Linden to split - wow what a surprise - the wood wouldn't split down any grain but just shredded into hair like strings - never saw anything like this - I don't like waisting any wood but I don't know if it is worth trying to split this wood - you ever had any experience with this wood?

      There's a lot of linden here and I'll keep some for myself to burn because I like the smell. It is very soft, but I've never had it act mushy when splitting. Maybe your 35 tons over my 25 on my SpeeCo just pulverizes the wood! It can get knotty too, hampering a nice clean split

    • @firewoodathome
      @firewoodathome 5 місяців тому +1

      It splits stringy, holds a ton of moisture, and when dry is very light like cottonwood. Smells great when burning.

      I dreamed it together my friend. I designed the whole thing and learned hydraulics in the process and since I had no welding skills, I asked a customer if he could weld it together for me, so he used his scraps from his business and I traded him a massive amount of wood to put it together. It could have been built better, but after some initial breakages, I sorted out the weak spots and bow ita very reliable.

      @bradleykuechle7586 thank you, I could split all day with it if Ll my wood came in nice and straight. This would be even better for straight slim forest poles!

      I am looking at a splitter that a guy built on a trailer that is similar, the guy owns a welding shop and it is very similar to a tempest or wood mizer. Unfortunately the guy is very busy and I’m trying to get a demo of the machine but it’s taking a long time to test it out.

      Them big rounds are always a challenge no mater what kind of splitter you have but they do produce a lot of nice splits .
