LOST FILE - EASY & IMPOSSIBLE ELM SPLITTING

  • I found this video on an SD card and it is from Aug 13th of last year. I finally sorted out my issue with the chainsaw not cutting straight. The problem was that one of the files in my Stihl 2-in-2 sharpener was dull so one side of the teeth were getting reduced in size while the other side wasn't filing down and shrinking in size in unison with the other side.
I had some American elm and Norway maple to cut and split. Some of the elm split easy and would've split in my homemade splitter, but some of it, I could not get to split in the SpeeCo splitter.

Good one Anthony. Elm is hard stuff to split.

Ya definitely a waste of time business wise, but I like having the variety of species. I liken the grain to cotton balls in fiberglass resin 🤣 If I could sell a lot of boiler wood, I'd take all elm available and split what I can and cut the rest into boiler wood

Found this on ans SD card, figures it came up when I was trying to catch up by slowing me down. A bit more. A 2 month backlog became 2.5 months even as I was pumping them out, but I was making lots of videos with the mild weather. I shpuld be releasing one of two of last year's fishing trips tomorrow and one more filmed this week.

@travisdoesfirewood ya lost a lot of revenue during fall viewership. All cuz of a couple crybabies who thought they had to cover some bases that somehow yotube never didn't know or was able to take care of themselves

I just had some elm come, though, and it was not that bad to split.
Its funny how a 3 dollar file changes everything too..😉👍

I usually try to avoid it, but I took a round back to the woodyard for a test before coming back to get more....I got duped by the test piece 🤣
Ya it took me a while to figure out the uneven cutting issue

Thank you! 30 to 50 cords a year. Not bad for a part time gig lacking heavy equipment!

One time I came across elm that was practically impossible to split, the ram would go all the way down and then I had to rip it apart by hand because there were strings still holding it. Now if I ever come across that particular species of elm or something else that’s difficult to split I just boiler wood it.
On another note it looks like you’re in the totality bullseye 🎯 for the eclipse, if Trudeau has found a way to tax you for that?

Ya if I could sell more boiler wood, I would take any elm I can get. There's tons of siberian elms here in backyards, rarely the front yard fence and lots along streets. Every now and then ibget lucky with some easy splitting red elm.
I saw your post about the path of the eclipse and I figured I'd be pretty much right in it.
I knew that comment was coming, maybe we don't have an eclipse task, but our new mayor, former wife of the well liked deceased Jack Layton wants to impose a rain tax based on your pavement to grass ratio. Last name Chow, looks like she's turning out to be the dragon lady. We can thank the Toronto libs once again for awesome election results in Canada

We’re 95% covered in the eclipse, I was thinking about doing a livestream in the middle of it.

Yeah I don’t sell much boiler wood either. If you have boiler you should be getting the wood yourself. But sometimes people have health reasons why they don’t or if it’s a harsh winter and they didn’t get enough

@JoesFirewoodVideos I sill have a full bin of boiler wood. I'm gonna have to cut and split whatever I can for reserve sales until I get a buyer
