I am drenched in Armenia during Vardavar festival! EP14

- The second day in Armenia I experienced the Vardavar festival, the water festival in Armenia.
I was warned not to go out because everyone would drench each other with water. But how I can miss that?
(this video contains a lot of screaming :P)
Vardavar or Vartavar (Armenian: Վարդավառ, Homshetsi: Vartevor or Behur) is an Armenian water festival celebrated by ethnic Armenians throughout the world (i.e. Hemshin people of Turkey, a Muslim majority group of Armenian origin)
A similar festival can be observed in China (泼水节, celebrated by the Thai minorities) and Thailand (Songkran) where they pour water to celebrate the new year of Thai.

This is the most joyful festival I've ever seen without no doubt! 😂
Greetings from Egypt to all Arminian people! 🤝👌
The legend behind Vardavar is connected with the gods of long past :D
Astghik ruled over the Ararat plains and everything was fertile, the people were happy, and her love with the god Vahagn blossomed. During a period when Vahagn was away, the dragon from a far-off mountain (or Dev, in Armenian folklore), manages to steal Astghik away. When Vahagn returns, he finds the Ararat plains dried up, the people destitute. He learns of the catastrophe and goes to find his beloved. He does save her by slaying the dragon and brings her back home. Upon seeing her lands dried up and her people dying of hunger, she weeps. Each teardrop that falls makes a rose bloom. soon, the rivers flow and the land is fertile once more. And so, we sprinkle water on one another and gift roses on the day of Vardavar, the day of the blooming (or flaming) rose.
❤
Thank you for this video. Personally I am very glad that more and more tourists from China come to visit Armenia. Chinese munnicipal councils supported Armenia diring covid, and supplied Yerevan with public transport. We will always remember your help 🇦🇲❤️🇨🇳

Interesting. Thanks for making the video. I didn't know Armenians are such fun people who are welcoming. I am pleased to see that they are Ok with Asian people.
Why wouldn't they?
I mean Armenia is in Asia so yea
@@apollinariyaakhmetovaArmenia is Asia? That was funny)
@@saxa99funNot funny, just geography. Western Asia is a really cool place )
Many Armenians learn Chinese and Japanese also. They are ok with everyone, except for turks...because of very bad history with them.

So interesting we in India have the same festival called HoLi , where we pour water and also Color on each other .it’s a festival of lots of fun and frolic 🎉
A star is born. Congratulations!
Your channel got 10k already! Congrats 🎉
they need to adopt this ritual in America so people can let off a little steam. We had water fights as kids in the 1960's love your videos .
This year Vardavar is celebrated today and I am soaking wet 😭😂
Nothing can protect you in Vardavar!

This tradition you can enjoy only in Armenia!God Blessing with you!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
52 k subscribers now :) And you more than deserve it
That super funny video Say hello to Grace
However it's not unique to Armenia - we have an exactly the same custom in Poland, we call it Smingus Dingus - you pour water on whoever you can; however Armenians make it look more fun :)
And now it's already 95k!
Bravo Armeniya ❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲
That’s a way to beat summer heat! You can’t escape from the Vardavar festival if you’re in Armenia. Next time if you go to Armenia on vacation when the Vardavar festival is coming up, bring a giant nerf water gun or a big bucket of water with you if you want to join in the fun!
As a tourist-photographer I would find this water-soaking festival a day and place to be avoided by all means. Fortunately, your GoPro camera is water-proof. (Yan - you had 76 subscribers a mere year ago? Oh, mine; you have come a long way.)
We are human, do good while we alive, no wars , no selfishness, no jealousy. Working forward to improve mankind is a duty of everyone
We need more tourists from China in Armenia. ❤❤❤
international imperialism, we Turks and Armenians confront each other; They want us to be enemies and fight... but they will not succeed... we Turks; We want to live in friendship with the sincere Armenian people...
Wow Yan you got a lotta love from the locals. Lol. This is a very fun video.
It’s crazy how you had only like 76 subscribers 2 years ago and now you’re close to 400K🎉
Now it's 76k. Subscribers. Congratulation!
Welcome to Armenia
I live your Videos, they are funny and interessant
It reminds me of a great day my wife and I had at the water park in Kunming China. Everyone got very wet.
Thanks for the video. Please more videos about Armenia❤❤❤
This is Armenian Midsommer, ancient pagan festival dedicated to celebration of summer solstice, love, blooming flowers, in ancient times they also threw flowers at each other along with water, then lit bonfires in the evening at specific locations high up in the mountains.
👍👍👍
Wow,😂😂😂. It is funny!
My husband just show me this channel.
He is Armenian, native ppl.🇦🇲
Just wondering, why we don't see you. We were spending summer vacation at Yerevan last summer.
We will back China visitv my family ppls in this summer in China.🇨🇳
Wow, from 76 to 240K! Im slowly inching my way to your more recent videos. I subscribed because I was interested with your take on rural china and eventually decided to follow your journey from the start (was ignoring it because it didn't really interest me). And I glad that I did, so here I am now in your Armenian video. :)

Things you do for us! :)
Wow from 76 subscribers to Almost 300k now, no question for that because your videos are so good. I am also hook up by your videos and now watching it non-stop 😊
Keep it up @Little Chinese Everywhere Yan❤
Anwar from the Philippines right here February 16, 2024. 🫰
That's one of the strangest festival traditions that I have ever seen!
For us, it's because it used to be to honor the water goddess! When we converted to Christianity, we didn't want to give up our fun so we kept it!
Why is it strange? And how can a "tradition" be strange? Is throwing tomatoes or colorful powder at one another strange?
Happy day in Armenia!
Yep, it is that time of the year, it is called Vartavar, people water each other
after 3 days is that day too! come again but to Vanadzor i will find you ;D
