Listen to the man we he talks about contaminants. I just paid $7600 to repair damages that contaminants caused. I have even always used the GM filter. Do this job with care!
Just completed my 1st fuel filter change on my 2016 Chevy Colorado Duramax with your help of your great tutorial, thank you! You really explained the whole process well and very detailed with your camera shots to clearly show what you were doing. Much appreciated!
My ZR2 Bison was in the 40 percent life on the filters and I wanted to change them. I was in process of installing the tubular transmission guards that go from the oil pan skid to the large skid that covers from part of the SCR, to the transfer case and all the way to the fuel tank. The bolts on the tube guards are beast to install on the transfer case side. I quickly realized how much work it would be to change the fuel filters later since I would have to drop the whole skid since it protects that whole left side. I decided to drop the skid and assemble all the tubes while off the truck which was very easy. I changed the fuel filters today, and with the help of a jack stand managed to put the large skid and the tubes back on and then fully bolted on the tubes to the engine skid adapter plate. I’m glad I did it this way. I won’t have to deal with it for another 25k miles probably. My truck only needed one turn of the key to prime. It did not want to prime any more after the first turn of the key so I waited a while and it did prime but no more bubbly sounds so I just started it an it was fine. The manual states just to do it once and then crank for 15 seconds. Mine cranked like nothing had changed after two primes. Same amount of starter rotations.
Just want to say Thank you again just changed my fuel filter I like to do it at 50% plus going on a long summer trip. Another plus I feel it saves fuel pump from working to hard.
Your videos are awesome! You've saved me a lot of money and I'm very appreciative of you taking the time and explaining the detailed steps and procedures for my 17 Duramax Colorado. Thank you!

Excellent video. Also shows how well your yearly fluid film treatment is doing after multiple Ohio winters. Pretty decent filter life and a much easier prime process too compared to my 6.6 Duramax. I can only get about 10-12k miles out of my 6.6 filters, which I did a fuel filter video on in my channel. Diesel running down you arm.... yuck.... but, there’s no way to prevent that.
Awesome job, Mr. Geek. Liked and subscribed. I'm doing this today. I was pleased to see that I chose the exact same AC Delco TP-1007 filter(s). Gotta find my can of brake cleaner.
Hey thanks for you video! I really appreciate your directness and fast forwarding thru the boring( draining) part! Definitely subscribed and will check out you 1st for any future repairs I'm gonna attempt on my mini max!
Excellent video. I’m drawn to the diesel ZR2, but haven’t owned a Chevy in years. How’s the reliability of the newer ZR2s? Also, is the diesel a decent choice if I don’t do a lot of highway driving? I like the increased mpg of the diesel over the V6. Thx for any help you can offer.
Don't short trip it consistently. The emissions components need to run hot to work properly. City driving fills up the DPF much quicker causing more regens. Most of the problems are emissions related. I detail my thoughts here: ua-cam.com/video/Lnq9l6UkbPI/v-deo.html
Excellent video. How much fuel should i expect it to drain? Does it drain the whole remaining of the fuel in the tank or just in the fuel filter compartment?
Other than oil changes, what other regular maintenance do you have to complete on these truck. I keep seeing comments that regular maintenance for diesels is far more expensive but can't not find alot specific to these trucks. What is different than maintenance for a gas truck
@RepairGeek, does the Gasoline 2015 3.6 L Canyon also have a fuel filtr? ont seem to find one. Some places says it comes with the fuel pump and there is no serviceable fuel filter.
It doesn't as far as I'm aware. There is probably a filter on the inlet to the pump but you typically don't service those until you replace the fuel pump.
@@RepairGeek Thanks for the reply. Ill probably have to drop my tank to find out then. Because it has been acting up, and it feels a bit sluggish at times, but has no Codes and multiple shops have said its nothing
My 2016 Colorado 2.8 duramax radio has gotten a life of it's own??? it changes stations, goes into Pandora, and beeps intermittently, this after driving maybe 10 -20 minutes. Do you have any suggestions??
No sorry mine has been fine. Have you connected your truck to your home's Wifi and checked for system updates? System updates are under settings somewhere.
I had this happen to my brand new 2022 Bison and it was all still under warranty, took to dealer and they had to replace the HDMI cable at back of the dash screen computer. Problem gone!
I'm looking at a 2018 ZR2 with the Duramax with 54K miles. Have watched all of your videos. Is everything still going well? Anything I should have the dealer throw in on the deal or otherwise look for?
Truck has been fine. Zero issues. Only thing I would do is use an OBD2 scanner and see how many miles have past since the codes have been cleared. Ideally it will be 54k indicating the truck has never had a problem. If it's low like 10 miles or something someone may have traded it because of issues.
@@jeremysmith9868 I was also curious about B20 because it tends to be cheaper per gallon than regular diesel. Some people also complained that running B20 clogged their fuel filters quicker.
It’s a good idea to use goggles and nitrile gloves. Fuel ⛽️ is absorbed into your skin and liver. It is hazardous o your body. Had the Hazardous Materials training for 33 years.

Simply excellent work!
Watching this after the dealer was charging $220 to replace it😎
DONT GET ANY CONTAMINATES IN THE SYSTEM
( use some old motor oil for lubrication on the new filters)

Excellent video. How much fuel should i expect it to drain? Does it drain the whole remaining of the fuel in the tank or just in the fuel filter compartment?
Have the same question
@Kasey i ended up doing mine yesterday. I had half a tank of diesel but it only drained few litres maybe about 2 litres or less. Hope this helps
It only drains what is in that filter housing.
🍻Thanks for the info
Fantastic video. Thank you! I use Wix filters.
Great video ! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Unnecessary but appreciated. Thank you.
Good job geek
great video
Could you show us about a water fuel separator is that what that yellow plug does
Yep thats it. If you get a water in fuel message drain the water using the yellow plug. Reprime the fuel system and it should be good to go. 👍
Maybe I’m just missing it but what is the torque?
15ft lbs.
Great video!
I'm wonder if I didn't prime it right because mine won't reset on my dashboard
You can't reset it with the truck running.
Do I have to have an empty tank ? Or is it gonna drain my whole tank I just filled up
Only what is in that housing that the filters are in will drain. It won't drain the tank.

The fuel filters and adding DEF. That's the only additional maintenance items different than a gas version.

@jeremysmith9868 the owner’s manual says B20 is compatible. From what I’ve heard, B20 is not recommended in cold weather (close to freezing)
