    Do you love prunes? I love these dried bits of plums so much, but have never been a fan of the more chemically-laden commercial prunes. GET FREE PRINTABLE RECIPE CARD HERE: www.thepurposefulpantry.com/dehydrate-plums/

      Any plum works. I'm just using the generic plums we have easy access to, but all plums work the same way.

    My great grandmother used to thread them together and hang them in the hot attic to dehydrate them. She had 8 kids and her husband died. She was able to keep them all fed despite being dirt poor

    The plum tree is ready to harvest & this is a great way to process them. Thank you. We are looking forward to tasting them this way. 😋

    I have done Italian prunes, but only sliced in half, takes forever to dry, think I will try cutting them down into smaller slices. Will also try plums.

    I've got to try this. I always think that they're going to turn out like the store-bought prunes and the kids would never eat them. But this looks delicious. Looking forward to Plum season

    I laughed at the speed up part! I've been working on dehydrating meets and now on fruits. I love jerky and bananas.

    I will be doing this soon I hope. We love plums and this would be great! My husband loves them even more than the rest of us and this will make a great snack for him to keep on his desk at work. :-) Thank you!

    I have to admit to loving commercially produced prunes, I like them soft not crunchy. However I would like to try the plum powder.

      @@ThePurposefulPantry I will have to get a dehydrator first! Lol! I gave mine away, along with my canner and supplies 😣
      I was planning on relocating back to the US but that's been put on hold. However I have materials to DIY one and use the good old Mexican sun 😁

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 роки тому

      Good luck!! One of the tips I saw when looking at sun drying them was to turn them inside out if you're doing halves. That way, you don't have to worry about that skin being an issue. Then make sure to pasteurize after!

      @@ThePurposefulPantry How do you suggest I pasteurize?
      I mostly did tomatoes, and frozen veggies.

    Could you punch jokes in the skin with the cake slicer tool? Would that prevent case hardening?

    I bought a large mandolin. Could not wait to use it. Bad decision. Could you send me where you bought your metal glove or which video has it listed. Thank you so much.

    I have never used plums...I eat the fresh.
    Can you blanch them like a peach to peel them? If they weren’t as ripe as you wanted could you make jam?
    Disclaimer: I’m pretty new to this preserving thing...😁👍🙏🇺🇸

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 роки тому

      That was recommended during the video ;) You can make jam out of any fruit you'd like.

      It's a Nesco Dehydrator - what is avaialble in the UK is going to be completely different than the UK - start with Amazon to see what is offered there, and then find your best price.

    I love prunes but....those are not prune plums. They make prunes from the dark purple oblong plums not round plums. Totally different fruits.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I know :) You can make a prune out of any plum, but there are certain varieties that are better than not. I put that information in the blog post because it was more info than what I could fit in. And I even explained that I wasn't doing it in the typical fashion.
