  • Searching in the heart of North Carolina’s NASCAR country, automotive author and Barn Find Hunter Tom Cotter ventures into a garage full of cars and is hit with a lightning bolt. Parked before him is a silver 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/2, covered in decades of dust and spider webs. The Italian Sleeping Beauty has only 13,000 miles on the clock and, Tom soon realizes, is one of only a handful that were built with an alloy body. It just can’t get any better than this, Tom reasons, and then-miraculously-along comes a 1967 Shelby Cobra 427.

      Perhaps because people park cars in barns but they do not store gold in barns would be a good reason. Gold would typically be found in a safe, and for obvious reasons, these don't get forgotten about, or don't get published when somebody finds the abandoned gold.

      I guess they don't teach common sense to Ferrari carbon fibre technicians but do implant tin foil into their brain cavities! The owner is still alive and knew they were there. He just neglected them for 25 years. What's so hard to understand about that? An affluent car enthusiast in the middle of his life buys a bunch of nice cars, drives them for 10 or 15 years by which time he's retired and barely using them anymore. Then his mechanic has his acccident and they are left collecting dust. The years fly by and before you know it he's an old man. Finally, when he's shipped off to a nursing home where he reminisces over his beloved collection. There he asks his trusted friend to sell up his home and contents and see that the cars in particular are taken care of and go to a good home. Barn finds are called in. Case closed.

    What a great video! I was an officer for the California Highway Patrol for 27 years, and from time to time I was dispatched to a residence to do a VIN verification for a car owner so they could register it after the vehicle had been out of DMV registration for a number of years. In my career I dreamed of going to a house with a garage like this one, but it never happened. The closest I ever came was doing a VIN verification for a 1958 or 59 Ford Sunliner in the '80's.

    when i was a kid I rode in the serial no.1 427 cobra. it was at Carlisle ford car show and if you gave a donation the owner took you for a little ride. the car was only worth 1.5 million at the time, in sure it's worth much more now. best experience of my life and made me way more interested in cars as a kid.

    I love ALL old vehicles and I see them peaking out of barns, garages or just setting out in the weather every day as I drive my Freightliner all over the country. I'd LOVE to be able to rescue all of them but there was one that I just HAD to save. I'm a truck guy and a GMC truck guy to the bone. I already had a 1975 Gentleman Jim that my grandpa bought new. My family and I have been working on for several years to bring it back to it's former glory (we're almost finished). I kept passing by this old farm in Georgia on my regular route seeing a blue/silver GMC beside the barn. I knew in my heart it was a Beau James but never had time to stop. Long story short...I had to deadhead back to Ohio a few years back. I stopped to ask about the old truck next to the barn and yes it was for sale. I took a good look and determined that it was in fact an original Beau James. I turned the crank to be sure then agreed on a price, dropped my step deck and went to the bank for cash. When I got back I aired up the tires, winched the truck onto my trailer. My Gentleman Jim is almost ready for paint and the Beau James is next on the list. Only 1500 of each ever built and I have both!

    • @davidthompson62
      @davidthompson62 Рік тому

      I really thought the Ferrari would go for much more than this as not only are they impossible to find, this one is almost like new with only 13k on the engine. Who ever bought it got a great deal.
      One could argue that having a 2 cam instead of the normal 4 cam would hurt the price-I say that makes this version rarer and worth more money.

    In 1973, when right out of grad school and starting my first "real" job, I was offered an original small block Cobra for $2500. It was a roller. It was complete but had been in an accident and, as I recall, nearly all of the body panels were missing. I knew it was a great deal but it was out of reach for me, so I passed. Should have borrowed the money and put it away. Now, today, even as a complete "roller" it would be great to have on display.

    A bloody Morgan! I’m Malvern, born and bred, and to think that car on my screen has made it all the way from my home town of which I still live in, all the way to that guy’s garage in the states is bonkers!! For anyone that doesn’t know, Morgan is a completely hand made, luxury car that is only and always has been made in a single factory in my home town, Malvern.

    a barn find is something that no one knew was there. just because someone leaves a car in a garage for a million years does not make it a barn find. they have to be forgotten, not just neglected. Clearly, these cars we're not forgotten or lost.

    Some years ago my elderly neighbors garage door was open,a very quiet peaceful lady that was a retired teacher. In her garage was a Parade green 1957 Chrysler 300c Hemi Conv just hidden away. Her and her late husband bought it new in 1957and they was also married in it. Some years later I asked hey what'd you do with the old car and she said i donated it to my church.

      I had a horrible experience with a 48 Hudson. It was a beautiful car. Straight body, no rust, no collisions, no this no that. The Hudson sat for 30 years. Owner died..blah blah blah. I didn't think it would be that bad. It was a nightmare. What was in the gas tank was Mississippi river sludge. Same goes for the fuel lines, and the carb. All that had to go. Tank was cut open, blasted cleaned, by the time I thought I was finished I was so deep into it and it still never ran really. Sold it on ebay as a non runner and had to take pennies in the dollar.
      I love Barn find Hunters videos, and but as long as I live, I will never buy another barn find. too many hidden factors, way way too many gremlins you'll never know about until you are sitting in the middle of your garage, surrounded by greasy parts scratching your head wondering what the hell did I just do. sorry for going off. I just want people to learn from my experience.

    • @TheSgtAngry
      @TheSgtAngry 6 років тому

      I'm more of a spectator in this regard, I'm not planning to buy a barn find anytime soon but I'm sure there are many people who don't mind getting their hands dirty and who know what they're going into beforehand. If a car's been sitting for a long time there's a lot of things that have to be replaced to have a runner, I can understand your frustration.

    • @styldsteel1
      @styldsteel1 6 років тому

      TheSgtAngry oh man. I mentioned to another poster here, unless I get reincarnated as Wayne Carrini the closest thing I’m coming to a barn find is a car that’s already been gone through. Otherwise, it’s spectator city for me 🤔

    Amazing video Tom but PLEASE MAKE LONGER VIDEOS. This is another episode than could and SHOULD be half to hour long. Also amazing is the fact, the owner probably acted like he didn't have 2 nickels to rub together, yet had MILLIONS of dollars worth of cars tucked away at a house and property that's going to hell in a handbasket.Such a shame but it makes for an EPIC experience and video. HUGE thumbs up!!!!
